Hey I even got to the ground, only to be phoned by Michael (Catering) as I was parking up, then even worse, club shop was closing and wouldn't do any printing on a new shirt. Really cheesed off. Will have to wait for new shirt. Maybe Saturday if I can get the day off work.

I am sure that they will have individual numbers and letters to make up the names, after all, I don't want any of the players names or numbers (not that I don't respect them) just that I have decided to have my pseudonym and the number 54 on mine:D

All the letters and numbers are individual. I think the only time they get the players names as a set are for the official strip, and I would suspect they came pre-pressed by Joma.

It's been raining all night here. Even if the ref had a thought of starting the game I doubt it would have gone 90 minutes

I agree with you totally Dave , I don't think it would have run to full time , I am sure the groundsmen have done their very best , good for them !

its a knocking bet, rain that came down after kick off time would never have completed the game, Plus slippy pitch, can't afford injuries in key positions, also too many players on 4 bookings. very easy to pick up another on slippy pitch, so whilst i was sick it was off, was only sensible thing to do. IMHO.

Probably less than thirty miles, but as daft as it may seem the East Lancs ( Accy) gets more rain I am sure than either Bury or Rochdale. Plus as stated elsewhere the make up of the pitches will be completely different.
Not to sure about the water gathering machine though. Ok for drying off a cricket sqaure but hard work on an area 115 x78 or near enough. Keep going Buzzer last time I was up there the playing surfaced played and looked good.

It can even be more localised than that. The heavy downpour that hit the ground between 4pm & 5pm had turned to light drizzle by the time it got to the town centre :)

Re: Match Off!

its because the previous regimes idea of spending a 5 figure sum on the pitch was £100.00 not the 5 figure thousands needed.

Cardboard thrupennybits' idea for pitch care was to roll it repeatedly thus causing the compaction of the in soil air pockets which help water drain out into the water table, the result of which is a pitch that holds water on the surface and struggles to drain it away. I spent time talking to former groundsman Gary on this subject before he left and he was saying at that point that the pitch in his opinion needed virtidraining and re-airiating before being rotavated, fed properly and reseeded with one of the higher quality highly durable grasses now being used at the top level. Bear in mind that this was 2 and a half seasons ago (minimum) and you can see what Buzzer is up against.

Please don't go there!
The whole surface needs raising about a foot or so and new drains put in. I think Rovers did this about 10 years ago when they lost a lot of fixtures, but I hate to think what it cost them.

Think you might want to check your facts on this one, because Mansfield v Luton Town was also called off for a waterlogged pitch:)

PS it was called off on Tuesday morning as well

Re: Match Off!

For those who are to young or didn't attend games in the 80's 90's & early 2000's. The pitch was a disaster, diesel or heavily contaminated water having come from the Brick Works lay just under the surface. The playing surface now at The Crown as improved beyond recognition, not due to good luck but by the powers that be John Alty, Eric Whalley spending what the club could afford, and also by the dedication of people of people like Jim Shaw.
Money was spent during the close season to have the pitch verti drained, sanded & re seeded the improvement was quickly there for all to see.
Later on it was wings that proved to be in need of further work, this was done and proved to be a success.
As for the man who came from Man City he quickly came and went another who proved to be a Legend in their own Lunchtime.
You only need to watch the old 1st Div games to see how much playing surfaces have improved, it is a never ending spending spree but one that ultimately pays off.

if ya lived local mark you would know the facts! as is printed on the fishy site =
The surface had coped well with the wet weather throughout the day but a period of heavy rainfall in the hour up to 5pm has left areas of the pitch very heavy, and the match referee has made the decision to postpone the game.----
this is utter crap, i was passing the crown approx 4-20 ish was no heavy rain whatsoever, Grimps posted there was water on the pitch in places when he left at 2-00 ish, stanley fans came from afar, yet mr heys is quoted as saying " a period of heavy rainfall in the hour before 5-00pm made pitch unplayable" well sorry the FACT is that did not occur!:( and the thing most fans i talk to want is they just want the simple truth, is still NOT happening,i agree that had the match started, its odds on it would not have been completed, but thats another issue. seems some things will never change up yon, that is only to the clubs deteriment.:(

A huge apology from me, and from the club for any trouble caused by the cancellation of the tuesday game. I have seen some of the comments on this thread, and actually some people have contacted me directly to complain. I think its only fair that you have the right to feel aggrieved. I have spoken to Rob, and on this occasion, I would like to say that we (that is everyone at the club) is very sorry that there is a feeling that the club was deficient with information. I cant say that I know what we might be able to do differently, but since this clearly a problem that is likely to occur again, we need to be responsive to criticism and then see if we can improve. I have no desire to try and find excuses. the fact that so many people have voiced their negative views means that we (the club) must find a way to respond positively.

so - to all who feel that we let you down, I personally apologise. As club chairman, the buck does stop with me. I hope you will accept the apology. I also hope we do come back with a better routine next time around. I dont know what that improvement will be, but I promise you that I will try my best to influence a constructive review.
