Pitch update Friday 27th Nov 2009 Drainage work ahead of FA Cup tie Work is continuing into the night on the Stanley playing surface ahead of our FA Cup second round tie against Barnet tomorrow afternoon. Chief executive Rob Heys explained "The recent high levels of rainfall have caused problems with the pitch in recent weeks and while we have tried various methods of alleviating the problems, from verti-draining and slitting to heavy duty aeration using probes and compressed air, the water levels have continuallly been topped up as the rain continues to fall. "In order to ensure the best chance of success for tomorrow's game going ahead, and indeed the matches for the remainder of the season, we have installed a new land drain two thirds of the way along the length of the pitch with gravel slits running across the playing surface and into it. "This isn't a decision we have taken lightly. Our groundsman Martyn has had some great advice over the last few weeks from Steve Patrick, the head groundsman at our Premiership neighbours Blackburn Rovers, and the work today has been carried out by Derrick Crane who is a very experienced contractor who works at Ewood Park, Anfield, Goodison and the Millennium Stadium amongst others. Between Steve and Derrick there is over 50 years of grounds care experience." Tomorrow's match referee will be at the Crown Ground at 10.30am to inspect the surface, the latest forecast isn't showing much rain overnight or in the morning which is encouraging however these do sometimes change and we will keep supporters of both sides updated through our website as the day progresses. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) |

FA Cup sponsored by E.On Second Round
Saturday 28th Nov 2009 Stanley v Barnet - pitch update As dawn breaks at the Crown Ground this morning ahead of our FA Cup second round tie against Barnet, attention turns to the pitch following the work that was carried out to improve the drainage yesterday. Cosmetically the work has had an effect on the surface but the system appears to be working well as we have no areas of standing water on the pitch at all, despite the overnight rainfall which has now eased off. That said some areas are still very heavy and work has now started on these ahead of the visit of the match referee at 10.30am. The weather forecast is showing a fine run up to kick off, and with plenty of work now to do in the next few hours head groundsman Martyn Cook would be grateful for any volunteers that can spare a little time from 9am to help to prepare the ground to ensure that we do all we can to get this afternoon's match on. |

FA Cup sponsored by E.On Second Round
Saturday 28th Nov 2009 Stanley v Barnet - pitch update 10.00am There is good news from the Crown Ground this morning, the match referee has been down to the club and following an inspection of the pitch is happy that the game can go ahead. The decision would be subject to review should there be any heavy rainfall ahead of kick off however there is none forecast and so we can now look forward to our FA Cup second round match against Barnet kicking off at 3pm. Speaking about the news chief executive Rob Heys said "It is fantastic to hear that the referee is happy with the surface, a lot of work has gone into making sure that today's game goes ahead, and indeed to ensure that we don't have any further problems this season. Unfortunately it doesn't look pretty at the moment however that will improve over the next few days, but what matters is that it has done the job. "Buzzer the groundsman has worked incredibly hard, together with all the contractors and volunteers that have got involved, and it is aall credit to them that today's game will take place." |
