Not just the position, but almost half way towards last seasons points tally and that for me, along with the standard of footy and the outstanding finishing of the front two, is the most important thing.

Onward and upward.

Thin Monkey 01-12-2009 21:11

Re: Burton Tonight

3 great points. And all achieved without John Miles who, let's face it, has driven the team forward all season with his rampaging runs and fearless tackling.

I don't know how we managed a result like that without him!

nige b 01-12-2009 22:17

Re: Burton Tonight

been tonight and got back a while (live in nottingham). we were superb, first to every ball, defended in numbers and showed some great flair esp down rhs with symes, mc conville and ryan showing great touches that at times made you forget how damn cold it was. listened to local radio and peschilsolido actually admitted that they were outplayed and that Stanley showed how to play both defensively as a unit and going forward. not often we get praise or appreciation like that.

i can now put my feet up and have a glass of wine

Cheers Stanley!

MikeA 01-12-2009 22:31

Re: Burton Tonight

I thought that Burton played well for the first half hour or so before Stanley eventually took control. In the second half we played some of the best football I've seen from us all season.

Ultras were magnificent. There were some Burton fans there too but I never heard them.

That's three away league wins now, all against teams above us, including top-placed Rochdale. With this team we could beat anyone in this league! :)

Re: Burton Tonight

well just got back from my 1st ever burton trip.

Superb 3 points, but I ave seen us play much better this season, which sounds negative but isnt, as if we can play average and win then the rest of the league better watch out.

As for the team we looked VERY solid defensively, they only had 2 good chances all game. Kee never stopped running all night, and as for Symes he bossed it. The defenders of Burton never got a kick, he could have had 3 on a better day, but 1 will do. ;)

Thought Joyce had a great game in his return to the side, heres hoping Miles doesnt get back in when he returns from bloody suspension.

Roll on Saturday

Re: Burton Tonight

I agree that we didnt play that well, but i disagree about miles. That game would have been perfect with his passing, dribbling and long shots. I thought burtons forward line where poor, part of that was down to our good defending. They had a few half chances in the first 20mins and looked threatening from corners. Bouza was a bit late and dangerous with some of his clearances. 2nd half was alot better but not as good as previous games. The ref was poor, not one of the yellow cards for either team where deserved, main stand side linesman was also poor. Burton where naive and have alot to learn, but they should survive.

I agree with all that. The conditions were very difficult but we mastered them better than Burton did and our domination increased as the game progressed. I wholeheartedly agree with DAV007's comment about John Miles. In general, I feel that his contributions are often undervalued, but Tuesday night's pitch and conditions would have been ideal for him.

I think other people must be watching a different game to me.

Miles has offered next to NOTHING all season. He doesnt even look interested half the time, the ironic cheers from the Ultras when he got subbed in the Dagenhem game spoke volumes. We are a better side when he doesnt play.

Throughout 2009 (up until that back injury got him a few weeks ago) Miles has been phenomenal. I'm confident he'll find form again and perhaps this time out is a blessing in disguise.

DAV007 03-12-2009 18:34

Re: Burton Tonight

He is clearly our most capable ball player, excits the crowd wth an ability and willingness to dribble and has improved his work rate. He has a good eye for a pass and similar to jimmy ryan is comfortable picking out a team mate at 50 yards and/or unlocking a defence with a killer pass/run.

We are a better team with Miles, McConville is showing promise and seems to improve every game he plays; but Miles is better than league 2 standard and we should be grateful he didnt leave in the summer.

He didnt want to sign anyway, just did cause no bigger clubs came in for him. Which in a way shows he aint much better than league 2, otherwise someone would have took him wouldnt they?

I am sorry Dav007, whilst people are entitled to their opinions, please respect mine when I say, I haven't seen a poorer player at Accrington Stanley all season than John Miles. He is sooooo frustrating to watch, wayward with his passes and rarely tracks back to help defend. McConville, I cannot comment on because I haven't seen enough of him.But for me if an offer were to come in for John Miles I would snap their hands off and sell him, if some other team were to come in for him.

AccyAgro

there are a whole host of reasons why a player wouldnt sign for another club/come in for him.

He is a stanley player, a talented player with plenty of league experience and a player who can change and win games.
