Now that we have signed a goalkeeper, well two. What do you think the starting 11 will be against cloughy's rejects?

If before the first game of the season we signed a experienced centre half i would play him instead of Rocky and put Rocky on the bench for Howy

If we signed an experience centre half I would play him instead of Halford and then we may finish the game with eleven players on the pitch. Who would you play when Rory's suspension is over ? and what would you do with Procky ?

Rory instead of Brannan for me.

Will JK be number 1 or Alcock? or will it be a matter of swapping them per match.... I mean theres a lot of people want JK but last season it was said JK and Jamie made a goalie between them each with there own strong points....

I am very glad to see JK with us. But is he the complete goalkeeper?

In my opinion Hacker is more of an all round better centre half than Rocky thats why i would pick Hacker, i also believe that we have seen Rocky at his best when he has played just infront of the defence or in midfield but thats just my personal opinion what do i know?

As for when Rory comes back from suspension my midfield would be.........

Hard one about Procky, Haven't got a clue what i would do with him not saying he's not up to the task because am not as am a keen admirer of Procky but i think other's have done better than what he has this summer thats all.

Like i said this is just my personal opinion and thats why i ain't the gaffer, this can only be a good thing though as it shows we have quality all over the park, Just go back a couple of years when we would turn up on a saturday and practically know before hand who would be playing.

By replacing Brannan with Rory we are effectively playing with an extra forward compared with last season, as we will have Mully and Evil in the team together. Brannan is more utility and can help out in defence in an emergency, so is good to have on the field. Unfortunately I think Evil will be sacrificed when Rory is back. I agree with you, it's brilliant that we have a choice of players, as you said a couple of seasons ago and you knew who was playing, and if we had somebody injured or suspended we had to sign someone to replace them as we did not have a back up. I think that JK will be number one.

Kipax asks the question 'Is he the complete goalkeeper ?' If he was the complete goalkeeper I don't think he would be playing for us as he probably would be England's number one.

No-one has mentioned Cooky. He might not play the full 90 minutes, but he has looked real class in the friendlies so far.

My worry is that our midfield is too attacking and it will leave our defence exposed as it was many times last year. I think we need Ged Brannan to be playing a Nicky Butt-type holding role in front of the defence. Who else would play that sort of role?

Jeff I wasn't asking is he complete as in the best... but as in capable in all departments.. Is he commanding and will he come out of his comfort zone... Why was he dropped for certain games last season? Because he wasn't right for certain attacks? Most teams have a keeper who can play in every game... have we got one who can only play against certain teams? By complete I probably mean all rounder rather than best in the world.....a bit silly to think I meant that :)

agreed rocky struggles the closer to goal he gets and hasnt much of a header, cant see smithy getting in much :(

Rocky is definatly better but i still think we could do with an experienced centre half just to steady the ship so to speak. Also i dont think smithy will even get on the bench much this year as we have got much better than him. I think he is just there to have as the local lad Stanleys version of dunny

One of the areas where I hoped to see some new faces was in defence, so looking at the options we have available this close to the start of the season is very disappointing. Nothing much has changed since last season, with only one new face appearing. Surely the defence was one area that needed working on?

My starting line-up from the current squad would be:

Allcock

Cav------Williams (probably our best central defender)-------Halford-------- Howson

Jagielka-----Brannan------Craney-------Procter (possibly Cook)

Mullin------McEvilly

(Brannan & Procter/Cook holding the midfiled steady, with Craney & Jagielka pushing forward)
