How's Accy Gearing up for it's Big Day

Just to totally change key but keep on the FA Cup Theme

I wondered with not living in Accy how the Town itself is gearing up for arguably it's biggest footballing one off day for many a year?:)

If you did, or if you'd ever lived here, you wouldn't even bother to ask that question!

maybe that's why I asked a loaded question

or maybe never a better opportunity to press home the message that the club do exsist to the good people of Accrington & Hynburn.

For years we've been told that the local public would respond if we had success on the field and a progressive administration at the club which welcomed prospective supporters. Now we have both in place (although still a few glitches to be ironed out in the latter department - but we're getting there). To my way of thinking, this season is crunch time for the great Accrington public. If they don't respond by turning up in greater numbers for the next few months, I reckon they never will.

Personally, Google Page Ranking, I think that fans like yourself who don't even come from Accy put the apathetic sods who sit in local pubs watching premiership matches on a Saturday afternoon to shame!

Willie Miller 20-01-2010 20:53

Re: How's Accy Gearing up for it's Big Day

To be fair, there is a generation of Accrington lost to other clubs. Met a die hard Man Utd fan on New Years Eve who even has a box at OT. Had a "Made in Accrington" tattoo....

Maybe if we had been football league when he was "impressionable"

Look to the Kids, there was loads of em last night. There were more Stanley scarfs & bobble hats sledging over Xmas on the Coppice than Rovers/Burnley....

Despite the stewards trying their best to alienate every kid who stands in front of the Ultras, Children are OUR future

Also tbf to the club marketing dept, 3 days is no time to hype anything .... just our luck :)

Re: How's Accy Gearing up for it's Big Day

In a nutshell you have it spot on, which is quite sad really

I have been fortunate enough to have been on both Turf & Anfield for Premiership, FA Cup & European nights this season as well as the Crown for all the home games and some of the best football I have witnessed and definately for sheer noise, passion and the best fans in the whole of the Football Pyramid nothing can beat the Crown Ground.:)

So if there is anybody wavering, give it a go!

Willie Miller 20-01-2010 21:07

Re: How's Accy Gearing up for it's Big Day

Yeah, it is really up to us via word of mouth to spread the message. I constantly talk to everyone & anyone about ASFC in a positive manner always. Do your bit & slowly we will change Accrington from BlueWhite ClaretBlue to Stanley

And short sightedness has always been a problem.... The kids thing (Matchday club Free U-12's) should have been done 10 years ago!

wandering slightly, but staying on cup theme, i would love to see turner playing wide n supplying our strikers, i have a theory that normally ya only get 1 crack at beating a premiership side, n think if stanley play to their best, they have a great chance to get through at the crown, n that means getting ammo to our front 2.:) just my 2 cents.

Dead right. Both McConville and Miles never get to the byline to pull balls back so the strikers can meet the cross head on. They are always having to head balls from crosses coming from obliquely behind them. We have seen how deadly Symes can be from corners. To me, crosses pulled back from the byline is the most deadly attacking ploy, and Turner does deliver on this.

I hope he has the right change with him. The drivers are very fussy on that route and I know they don't accept notes.

Do you think he'll arrive in Accy early and do some market research, checking up on prices and products around Accy's shops? I know that Harrods charge over the odds for stuff like truffles and foie gras but I don't know what those prices are on Accy market.

Aye, but don't forget, Ossy Mills is Lancashires biggest free tourist attraction but Harrods is way down the list of London's tourist attractions. I say we can teach Mr El-Fayed a thing or two.

the club shop are expecting a delivery of 500 flags, red and white chequered variety, as well as a choice of new scarves. There is a new scarf anyway, but also some one-off Fulham/Stanley ones.

PLEASE, PLEASE get your hands in your pockets for some of these items! It is has been all too rare that Stanley have been pro-active on these sort of sales and we have all cried out for them for years. BACK IT NOW WHILST ITS THERE

...now be nice to our Egcentric Egyptian, don't forget that in 2002 when we played York City in the cup Mr Fayed let them have Fulham's half of the gate receipts:-

Fayed's gift may be York's salvation

By Sarah Edworthy
Published: 5:30PM GMT 24 Jan 2002

TWO days before his club's fourth-round FA Cup tie against York City, Fulham chairman Mohamed Fayed pledged his club's share of the gate receipts - estimated at £30,000 - to York City Supporters' Trust, to help the Third Division club's campaign for survival beyond this season. The Football Association have given approval for this unprecedented gesture.

"Football is the people's game," Fayed said. "It is the supporters who are the lifeblood of the game in this country. York are a historic club with fine traditions and it would be a tragedy for the fans if the club were to die."

So you never know, maybe you should play that song by the Bangles pre-match..

Do we have any idea of the prices of the flags and one-off scarves?

As to a prediction for the game Mark Lawrenson said:

Accrington Stanley v Fulham
Like a lot of lower league teams, Accrington have not played that much recently because of the weather.
Fulham are going through a slightly iffy patch at the moment, especially away from home, but I think they will win this tie.
Verdict: 1-2

But what does he know? :p

My hands in my pocket Rob and I've brass in my hand; but there's **** all on the online store and like others I have no chance of getting to the shop; although I applaud what the team is doing and the efforts made at the shop its disappointing to know that hundreds of pounds aren't getting spent online because of the continued lack of drive somewhere....

Doug it's actually because Lew is changing the system to link online store to the shop system, thats why it's not up to date.
