Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Hi all
Greetings from Moss Rose - I'll be doing my best to keep you updated with proceedings here (at the same time as doing the updates on 2BR!) No team news as yet, but a full quota of Stanley players doing the warm up. A few rumours that Ian Dunbavin may start in goal this aft - he's warming up furiously out in front of us. A good piece of injury news - Leam Richardson was trotting around the pitch before the rest of the lads came out. Looks like he's on the road to recovery. Teams when I get them Dan |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Team news in:
Three changes from the team at Northampton. Out go Bouzanis, Joyce and King. In come Dunbavin, Miles and McConville in. Line up: Dunbavin, Lees, Edwards, Kempson, Winnard, McConville, Ryan, Procter, Miles, Symes, Grant. subs: Bouzanis, Kee, Turner, Mullin, Murphy, King, Flynn |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Craig Lindfield starts for Macclesfield by the way...
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
bit surprised at Boozer being dropped. The first goal at Northampton went through his legs but it was only a few yards out and then he prevented an embarrassing score with some great saves in the second half. We now enter the land of Bavs...could be great..could be awful...we will no doubt see...hope it's the former!

Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Teams are just about to emerge from the tunnel...
The Football League Show TV crew are here, complete with Mark Clemmitt, so expect a feature tonight! |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Any news on Joycey? Is he injured? Good news on Leam Richardson. Cheers Dan.

Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Good afternoon Dan and thanks for the info. As a lifetime Stanley fan now retired on the south coast, may I say that I miss your 2br commentaries on our games. Great news about Liam, haven't picked up much news on the injury and his progress - lets hope he'll shortly be competing for his place. Just seen on skysports that Accy YA have won 2 - 0 at Wrexham today.
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Longlostson - there could be good news on the commentary front soon...
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
5 mins gone - first half chance. grant turns on the edge of the area and mis-hits a right foot shot straight at Jon Brain
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Grant wins a soft free kick outside the box. Good chance this
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Daisy cutter from Grant - under the wall but taken easily by Brain
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Afternoon all, and thanks Dan for the updates bud!
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
We've had a change of offical - the assistant on the far side has hobbled off and replaced by the fourth official. What a baby. Edwards looks like an extra from casualty with his bandaged head and he's carrying on!!!!
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
This is getting a touch feisty in the midfield already, with a few high boots. Procter currently receiving a bit of treatment.
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
First corner for Macc - high into the six yard box and well taken by Dunbavin
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Afternoon all!
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Morning all, a misty morning here in Vancouver. C,mon reds.
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Pretty uninspiring fodder so far - few chances though Stanley have enjoyed the majority of the play. 29 minutes played now.
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
CHANCE ALERT - cross in from the Macclesfield right falls to Richard Butcher in the box but the midfielder skies it over the bar from less than 10 yards
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
36 mins - CHANCE ALERT - Grant capitalises on some defensive indecision and gets into a shooting position inside the box, but fires wide of the left hand post. I expected the net to bulge!
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Good Stanley pressure here - two consecutive corners and Miles tests Brain
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
42 mins - Macc free kick in dangerous position 30 yards out.
Fed to right hand side where Izak Reid crosses to the back post. Beats everyone in Red and finds Shaun Brisley at the back post. His header comes back off the post... Three mins of stoppage |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
I like this....... Cheers Dan the Man.

Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Off to a birthday party ... grrr ...
Come on boys .... |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Half time 0-0
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
The half time round up is thus:
A half of two halves really -Stanley started brightly and created a number of half chances and Ian Dunbavin had little to do until about the half hour mark. From there on Macclesfield grew in strength, though Grant had Stanley's best chance in the 36th minute. After that, Butcher fired over for the home side when well placed and Brisley smacked the woodwork. Honours even and both managers should be relatively happy if a little frustrated at not scoring whilst they were on top. The home fans are certainly not happy - they booed ref Peter Quinn off the field. |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Sounds a bit too close for comfort. Down to 12th if scores stay as they are.
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Teams are back out. Off we go again!
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
No changes by the way
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
53 mins - CHANCE ALERT: Macc break away with Ben Wright, who holds off two challenges and finds Craig Lindfield in the box. From a tight angle on the right the former Stanley man fires in a low shot but Dunbavin turns it behind for a corner.
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Mullers has just scored Morecambe's second & Bury have gone behind.
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
58 mins - CHANCE ALERT - Jimmy Ryan hurdles a tackle in the midfield and finds Symes, who plays in Grant. Brain races off his line to push behind for a corner.
From the corner, Miles gets it back, crosses and McConville heads wide. 60 mins - CHANCE: Lindfield races clear down the right, gets his shot in but Dunbavin gets a touch and it clips the post and goes behind. Game MASSIVELY stretched at the moment |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
66 mins: change for Macc
Lindfield off to be replaced by Emile Sinclair (who is also a striker) |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
72 mins: Stanley change
Miles off, Kee on. A few selected Macc fans boo Miles |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
77 mins: Ryan has a free kick deflected wide.
Nervy stuff now |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Attendance is 1729 if anyone cares!

All over. 0-0. Probably a fair reflection!

Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Disappointing that. Fancied us for a win today. Roll on Lincoln.
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Clean sheet and a point away from home. Every little helps. Well done Reds.
Thanks Dan. |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Last update from me kids.
Coley says it "feels like a defeat" And Luke Joyce update - he's suffering from a dead leg and will be assessed by the medical staff ahead of Tuesday. Hopefully there'll be a match report on the website tonight - I'll try to keep you updated on Tuesday at Sincil Bank. Hope this has helped! Dan |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
This was a good match thread, well done Dan.
The Macclesfield number 5 had a brilliant game, in almost every attack of ours he was there. |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
A very dissapointing day
A vey poor game, we were found wanting in every department today which probably follows on from Tuesday's tubbing. Macclesfield were poor and were there for the taking but not nearly enough invention from the Red's with the ball spending far too long in the air, passing going astray, no cutting edge up front although to be fair there was no service through the middle or out wide. I do hope this is a minor blip for Stanley but alarm bells were ringing for me last Saturday even though we beat the Shrimps At the moment there is no natural width to the team that must change, we have players who can change that unfortunately they are bit part players at the moment. It was nice to see Chris Turner get on for the final eight minutes and without being too harsh he created more in that time than the other two did in their combined time on the pitch. All is not lost there is still plenty to play for but the rot has to stop before the wheels really do come off. On Stanley On |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
having listened to King Coley and Darren Kempson on Radio Lancs after the match, both have said this felt like a defeat, However, lets have the positives, did not concede a goal and gained a point. Win on Tuesday could easily take us back up to the play off positions although we cannot now make the auto promotion places with our games in hand. The futures bright, the futures Stanley.

Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Agreed very dull game indeed. We are missing that Grant/ Symes spark up front, Symes looks absolutely knackered in my opinion and could do with a rest.
Maybe start with Kee & Grant at Lincoln??? Great to see Turner get on at the end, surely he must get more game time now he has proved his fitness. Miles & Mcconville VERY average yet again for me im afraid. :( We have NO width when they play. Strange 1 to drop Bouza, he has been brilliant and only made 1 mistake. But all in all a draw was a fair result. |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
oh and Jimmy Ryan was yet again brilliant IMO.
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
I agree Symes looked very tired even at the start of the game. A weeks rest could do him good. I feel Turner should have been introduced sooner as McConville was having a nightmare AGAIN and Turner looked sharp when he came on. Mc Conville was weak and could'nt even do the basics. Why is he starting games? No-one has mentioned what a star Edwards was. Man of the match for Accy IMO. Lets hope there's a shake up for Tuesday we need to get back to winning ways as the playoffs could easily slip away.
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Let's not forget Bav's wonderful save to deny their no.9 late on when he seemed odds on to score. Have to agree about Turner, who within seconds of coming on made a great tackle, made a good run and put across a great centre. I think we would have won if we had started with the finishing eleven. Not great today but 100% better than Tuesday neet!
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
MOM - Dunbavin
Runner Up - Grant Worst player - Lees Runner Up - Miles we where the better team but Macclesfield had the best chance. Scrappy affair. |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Agreed Lees had a poor game.
Problem is he is a natural center back and we are expecting a wing back performance which I dont think hes capable of doing at the moment. |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
IMHO Turner was one of the players of last season, and could be the new signing we need and the unknow quantity for the final push needed. Just hope tiredness and the rumours unsettling the club don't get in the way!!!
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Dull game really, symes never turned up, he may be tired or whatever and could do wiv a rest. I have never rated mcconville personally and turner proved in 20 second half minutes today hes a lot more worth a startin place than he is...
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
another point to safety :D
|
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Having read all the reports from those who were actually at the game, those reports only confirm a little of what I've suspected for the last couple of weeks.....
Obviously without being at the game today, I'm relying on what those reporting what they saw at Macc to be a true reflection..... In my opinion.... Fatigue may be taking it's toll, and Symes didn't look at his sharpest against the Shrimps last Sat... As for Miles, I've never been his greatest fan, however his performance against Morecambe last week was Abject to say the least....To give him the captain's armband last week was a strange decision, as I think there are more obvious candidates for that role ( when Proccy is absent ) and it's been blatently obvious since day one, that whilst Miles has undoubted ability (at times ) his work ethic sadly lacks.:o Macc away will probably " seem like a defeat " as, in the bigger picture, in order to get into play offs and compete at the upper echelons of League Two, games like this are " must win ". That said, what a contrast to the last couple of years where the "must win " element in this fixture has been for a totally different reason !!! We've still 20 games to play and an awful lot of the next 10 at home, so personally I'd take any sort of positive result away and hope that we can make the home games count.:) Personal opinion, I'd give Symes a rest, placing him on the bench at Lincoln and give Billy Kee a starting berth, I'd also drop Miles & give Turner a run ( if fully fit ). Here's hoping for three points at Lincoln on Tuesday !!!!:D |

Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Maybe Michael has had his head turned with the transfer speculation?
But as a forward you have to have service to thrive off Milesy gives the impression of a plodder but to be fair he does have the tricks in his locker to unlock defences and produce moments of magic, I get the impression and I maybe wrong that he is a confidence player? I think Milesy would be better playing wide on the left wih Chris T on the right which would give genuine width, pace to go at defenders which no defender likes and an abilty to overlap with full backs as well as help tracking back and gives the option of swapping them over on the flanks to mix it up. When you are getting results it is possibly easier to stick with a winning combination, the tough part is when results don't is to shuffle the pack and get it right. The results we have had this season have been far beyond most people's expectations but I suppose there could be the part of the answer as expectations rise on the pitch so they do off the pitch. I still believe the Club have the players to turn the corner and at least get in the Play-Off mix but it needs nipping in the bud the way the fixtures are coming which is thick & fast a blip can become a slide or as we found out a winning run takes you right back up into the mix. On Stanley On |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
The trouble with Miles on the left is that he is 110%(!) predictable and turns inside EVERY time he gets the ball. Drove me nuts at the Morecambe game at one point with our players sprinting into the box and crying out for a ball to be cut back from the byline. Of course he came inside where 3 defenders snuffed him out and we were left open to the counter attack. He'll give me a heart attack one of these days.:D

Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
From Official site, another nice little move in the right direction :)
Match Reaction. Sunday 14th Feb 2010. Boss unhappy with point at Moss Rose. John Coleman admitted he was disappointed after Stanley drew 0-0 at Macclesfield. “It’s a couple of points dropped.” said the boss “In the end we’ve nicked a point because they’ve made a couple of chances and forced the game in the last 15 minutes. In the first half an hour they didn’t go near our goal and if you don’t cash in when you’re on top you sometimes pay the price and I think we did today.” Full Story Here >> http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/index.php/newsy/3191 |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
McConville is rubbish, every now and again I see glimpses of what he could be but he doesnt seem to be filling that potential. Turner is a winger, and a good en at that, I think hes just lacking of match fitness at the mo but I think a start at lincoln would be apt. Turner did more in 3mins than sean did all game. I saw him out last night and had a little chat, the guy loves accy, he was telling me how much he appreciated us lot singing his little song:) :)
Symes looked awfully tired but to be fair to him this is the first season hes played so many games consecutively so its understandable. Resting him might be good to revitalise for that last playoff push. |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Although we all hope for a push to the play offs, this year we may just have to settle for NOT having a relegation scrap
Thats progress folks |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread

Very true statement that - the one about relegation, that is!!!!:D On the subject of Stewards and officials, I thought that it was OK yesterday, no hassle :) |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Id have to agree about Turner & Mcconville.
Maybe Turner is not quite 100% match fit yet, if not then give him at least the last 30 mins against Lincoln if its needed and slowly building back up to starting fitness level. Sean Mc seems to have the odd flash of brilliance but seems to be lacking alot most of the time. Maybe hes 1 to look at in the future and could come good later (ie Bobby Grant). Only problem we seem to have in my opinion is that we only have 3 natural wide players in the squad ( Miles, Mcconville & Turner) and unfortunately 2 of those are not good enough. On a more positive note the rest of the side looks easily good enough for a playoff push ;) |

But the door has now opened and the football world outside Accy know us for our footballing prowess, rather than a flipping milk advert or lurching from one Google Page Ranking disater to the next. As shown with Players and the Management being linked elsewhere this season, to safeguard against that the play-offs at least could prove to be a blessing in disguise? |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
quote from a macc fan:
As a result, it was very painful to hear the Accrington fans (on form as ever yesterday) chanting about us having sh1t support at the end. You think he went to bed weeping? |
Re: Macc v Stanley Matchday Thread
Always rated Turner since he played last season, thought he gives great supply down the wing, always runs at defenders and always has good balls to cross in, sean Mc is one for the furture, surely Turner got to be pushing for a starting place next few games. He was quallity last season.
