Bad Days In Football!!

Reading these stories and watching the television clips, it shows how lucky we were/are, but also how bad things really are!!!

It looks as though, these will not be the last!!

BBC Sport - Football - Bournemouth served with winding-up order by HMRC

BBC Sport - Football - 'Dysfunctional' Portsmouth to enter administration

Living down here football finance dominates our local radio (BBC Radio Solent), which does a brilliant job covering Pompey, Southampton and Bournemouth - with live coverage of every game (and financial disaster) on one frequency or another. They shifted this morning's breakfast show from the studio to Fratton Park ...

The problem is these people aren't football fans cashy they're just after a pass time and don't give a stuff about tradition, Rovers were lucky with having Jack Walker as benefactor, a life long Rovers Fan who just wanted his boyhood club to do well

cmonstanley 26-02-2010 10:34

Re: Bad Days In Football!!

the thing is these people are trying to use these clubs to make a quick buck thats why most of these buyers take loans out in the clubs names thats why weve got situations at man utd liverpool portsmouth etc... god help them if sky went bust...

RIP Chester. The fans are hoping to start a new club from scratch and work their way up the leagues. Hope it doesn't take them as long as us!

Feel really sorry for the Chester fans, but for Ilyas & Peter that could so easily have been us - hope they manage to build the club back up again, suppose the only consolation they have that at least they've got rid of Vaughan for once and for all

Re: Bad Days In Football!!

Does anyone know why Portsmouth's point deduction is 9 - thought it was automatically 10?

VALAIRIAN 26-02-2010 12:25

Re: Bad Days In Football!!

No it is 9 in the PL, do not know why, that is the rule!!! Maybe it is that they are too big to lose 10 points :rofl38: :rofl38: :rofl38: :)

glosterred 26-02-2010 12:30

Re: Bad Days In Football!!

was wondering the same but maybe it is because there are fewer clubs than the other divisions???

Technically it's more severe than football league 10 point deduction. Premier league teams have 8 less games to pull it back.

Portsmouth live on, wonder how many businesses getting 1p in the pound for supplying them will survive

That is the worst thing in all of this LD, I heard it somewhere that as part of admin, the players get paid in full, yet as you say the suppliers get next to sod all!! Not fair at all :( :(

Southend players not been paid wages for february, are they going to be the next club in administration.

Re: Bad Days In Football!!

Even HMRC are behind the players at pompey,

TBH teh next 18 months could see a number of clubs going teh same way chester have today. HMRC lost preferential status and that is teh reason they are now pushing so many clubs for money owed. they are efectively getting in first. problem is their demands can often be the straw that breaks teh back.

Lord knows their programme suppliers will find it difficult to go on; they supply Crystal Palace too. :(

A couple more newspaper pieces:

Vast wages at the heart of Premier League's £3.5bn mountain of debt| David Conn | Sport | guardian.co.uk

Portsmouth are the biggest casualty of football's regulation failure | Football | The Guardian

It's sad for the fans of all these Clubs that are struggling, the Premier League, football league, FA, UEFA & FIFA to a degree all need to take a long hard look at what is happening in the game particulary the English game and come up with a way to try to even up the table with the wonky leg cause the way I see it the food on the table is only going one way with a few crumbs left for the others.

Football is at a crossroads and needs strong leadership from those within and better regulation.

Players, Managers, Directors & Chairman come & go but what always remains is the fans

You can also bet that while those fans are spending what they earn grafting all sorts of hours per week and travelling up tomorrow to save the costs, the players will be in the Dunkenhalgh lording it up on money the club hasn't got. Maybe they should have put them up at the travelodge on the M65 services
