The Lancashire Dealmakers Awards 2010 is being run by Insider Media Ltd, and is designed to celebrate the continued strength of the county’s dealmaking community. The nomination is great publicity for the club and highlights the fact that Accrington Stanley is now beginning to be noticed for the right reasons within the local business community.

Speaking about the nomination Ilyas said "I am thrilled that Insider Media has seen fit to nominate me and ASFC for this prestigious award, and honoured that we made the shortlist. This reflects the incredible progress that the club is making – and indeed it is a true turnaround.

"I would like to make it clear that whilst the nomination names me, as with all entrepreneurs and business men I am only as good as the team that I work with, and in getting to this stage I pay tribute to the hard working and often anonymous staff at the club and all its many volunteers."

Ilyas is nominated - and rightly so for everything else he does. But Accrington stanley is hardly a template for entrepeneurial brilliance - yet the article reads as though he and the club have been nominated.

macca and pendle and all. DOnt be bamboozled or fooled or confused. I would respectfully suggest that we are happy that our club is being seen in a positive light, and in the business context, getting the great press that this nomination has bought. I doubt that i will win but to be shortlisted was a great achievement. This gives us a wonderful platform to start appealing to those businesses that can be of such great sponsorship and support assistance in the months and years ahead.

Macca - the nomination is for people, but the nomination in this case is linked to the turnaround for asfc. I cant imagine its easy or even possible to differentiate, and your question is therefore really not easy for me to answer. I suspect that the nominations committee looked at me as an individual and then looked at the context of the club and the history etc.

regardless of anything else, I also want to echo on this bulletin board that the "hidden team" from the groundsman and the security on match days, to the 20:20 sellers and the professionals in the office and the shop, should be very proud of this step. As has been mentioned in many other places we have a lot to do and a long way to go, so we will not get carried away with this nice little interlude.

be gracious willie. its one club. one voice. one vision. We all count, and at times like this we need to be united. we can address our problems later (and yes, i know you have strong views), but for now please respect the achievement and lets all accept the step in the right direction. And you can be sure i have not ignored all the other comments about stewards. I just never felt it right to intervene at this stage.

by the way, another brilliant performance by you and the ultras on saturday. you did us proud, as you always do.

Don't worry chairman sir, most stuff I say in here now we are safe, is tongue in cheek. Would have posted something similar on the "Don Out thread" as your "one club one voice" etc

Stanley are too small to be divided. Anybody who has had any input into our 44 year rise through the leagues is to be commended & embraced within our ranks.... That includes present & the past. We will be stronger because of the pain we suffered last year. But only if we are together as one.

The stewards may take my flags.... but they'll never take my passion!:D

Your role in this part of the journey of our beloved club is important. i look forward to seeing you soon, on the terrace. I have promised to take my clothes off in the ultra end if we make it to the play offs !

The piece is part of the BBC's Business of Sport debate being held in Manchester this week.

The interview will be shown on BBC North West Tonight on Tuesday evening on BBC1 at 6.30pm.

I can't claim to be an Accrington Stanley but luckily I support a club who has a chairman that is no big time charlie and looks after the club with a level head because he is a fan as well as Chairman.

If I was to jump ship the reason you stated above would make an alternative choice the easiest in the world. His passion far outweighs any corporate greed infesting the game of football today.:)

After watching the Football in the Red debate last night where Stanley did get a little mention it brings it home to you how very fortunate we are:)

It was a very interesting programme (footy in the red debate). This business has great diversity of opinion and is run by very different people up and down the country. The thing that continues to strike me is that "one size" does not fit "all".

Also, thank you for the very kind comments regarding the NW tonight programme. We (that is the club) have a large and very sympathetic audience out there, and it takes very little to generate support in all kinds of ways. As we slowly get our own act together and figure out how to get towards the objectives that I mentioned, there is no reason at all that we cant become a vibrant well run and enjoyable club which can act as a model in its own right. HOwever we are a long way from that right now, and as a very wise chinese sage once said, all journeys start with a single step.
