Well 1 point better than 0, statistics say we were the better side with 7-2 on target shots, but its these we need to convert to goals. Draw does not do us any favours, personally I think we can forget play offs this season and settle for a top half finish. Be interesting to see the goals on the replay later.

Re: Macc Match Thread

Stanley will be the death of me!!!!!!

Im sorry to say, but to bring Shaun on was a bad decision, Milesy off, but Shaun on NO!. I dont think hes up to the standard of league two football at all, conference at the most! He should of easily finished that chance he had 3 yards from the goal!

As to the game, it wasnt the best of football at all but Symes was unlucky and Billy Kee towards the end played out of his skin, superb goal by him and was unlucky to block Edwards or Ryans(?) header off the line. However we should of obviously scored more and Macc hung on, got their goal and just savoured a precious point for them!

I think the promotion chase is off with that result and also the results before hand. I would of took survival this season at the most, so to finish in the top ten would be nothing less then sensational!

Nice to see Symes clap the fans aswell unlike many players.

On Stanley On.

Well just got back very disappointed.

Awful officials tonight and should have scored at least 3.

There keeper either made 2 fantastic saves or we missed 2 sitters from where I was sat.

Plus points Billy Kee has his best game in a stanley shirt for me and looked a threat all night. Turner playing 90 minutes but didnt get enough of the ball, his crosses however where superb in the 2nd half. Winnard also had a good game.

Bad points??? Miles Corners, Why?!?!!?!??! Yet again center backs switching off on occasion :(.

Good to get a point but I cant see us emerging from this slump any time soon.

Hope Grants injury aint bad

Basically agree, but thought it was a great game to watch. Don't like cliches, but their goal led a charmed life. We were unlucky not to score about 6 goals. Don't write us off yet for the play-offs. Jeff is wrong about Jimmy Ryan. I was counting his good passes but lost count after about 15 mins. and he had a very good game throughout. Sure, he misplaced a few, but no more than any other Stanley player. Good to see the short corner stepover routine again which almost worked for him. I feel 500% better tonight than I did after Saturday's rubbish.

Pendle Red 10-03-2010 05:30

Re: Macc Match Thread

After sleeping on it, the game was realatively poor slightly better than the fayre served up when the teams met last month, there was a few bright spots but again too many players going missing along with misplaced passes and long punts when perhaps the shorter ball or the channels was the better option.

I said before Saturday's game nothing short of six points would do to keep up any slim chances of play-offs, before last night three points may have been suffice, now it's a case of just getting back to basics on the training ground in terms of attaking & defending and taking the lads confidence and building it back up to take onto the pitch.

Maybe we need a little bit of luck as well which does seem to have deserted us at the moment and the two things together may just put us back on course to winning ways.

Same here. Even though the below-par performances of the three active officials left a bitter taste, there are quite a few positives to take out of the game. The gaffer explored different options within the team and this moved to take our overall game out of the stagnant state it's been in over the past few games.
Both Billy Kee and Chris Turner made the most of their chances to start (and finish) the game. Turner didn't see as much of the ball as Kee but always looked likely to make something happen with threatening crosses and clever runs. Kee was one of the best players on the park last night; bustling forward, hunting down the opposition to regain posession and bringing the midfield into the game with clever passes in the way Symes (who is knackered, incidentally) could do before opposition sides started marking him up double. Dean Winnard had what has to be one of his best performances for us so far, getting further forward and even hitting the bar on one occasion!
If not for a dubious penalty decision and numerous incorrect offside calls we could be three points better off this morning, on our way back up the table. It's just that good fortune is seldom found in out-of-form teams. If in games to come we can replicate the energetic and hungry play shown in the second half of last night's game, we'll get what we deserve soon enough.
I'm also still in a state of shock after witnessing a DOUBLE substitution from John Coleman! :)

Reamer 10-03-2010 08:41

Re: Macc Match Thread

Much better display last night and I thought we were unlucky not to win, especially in the second half. Their keeper had the Midas touch. MOM for me was Kee, though I wouldn't deny Edwards any accolades that come his way, he's one of our most consistent players. Turner had a decent game and provided the best crosses of the night and I always think Ryan plays better in the middle than out wide. I don't agree with Jeff either, thought Ryan did well.....and like Shaker, I'm still reeling from the shock of the double sub!

OK. Jimmy Ryan had one of his better games last night, and completed most of his passes. He must have been reading the messageboard and went out to prove me wrong. I hope he keeps it up and doesn't go back to wayward passing on Saturday.

maccawozzagod 10-03-2010 09:58

Re: Macc Match Thread

one thing I have noticed with Ryan is that he plays a lot of 'percentage' balls. Sometimes they are clever balls to nowhere and sometimes they are not - but either way they would count on his Caling Opta stats as misplaced passes.

Agreed Jeff. So, applying the same principle, if I say Proccy was anonymous last night, hopefully he'll prove ME wrong and play a blinder on saturday :)

For most of the season, Jimmy has been on the wing, last night he was in the middle. Last season he was in the middle.

For much of this season he has struggled, last night he had a good game, last season was a good season for him.

He is more suited to play in the centre of midfield than on the wing.

I know as much about football as the average supporter knows. What do you know ?
I have already said that Jimmy had an improved game against Macc, his passing in particular, but I have seen every game that Jimmy has played for Stanley, and I still say that most of the time he cannot pass a ball. How many games have you watched that Jimmy has played in ?

Another strange one for me is on the assists Milesy has had more in the Cups than in the League, while Jimmy Ryan has the same in both Cup & League:eek:

Which in terms of games must be at least a three to one ratio for League Games against Cup games
