Radio Sheffield half time:

Stanley unlucky not to be considerably further ahead. Have dominated the match. Rotherham hardly in it. Will be alarmed at ease with which Stanley have regularly carved them open. Ryan got away crossed for Symes tap in. Only smart save from Warrington denied Miles from distance.

Mind you Stanley should have been several up by half time at Rotherham (Sheffield) - they nicked it at the death so there's no room for complacency Stanley need to be putting the chances away if history is not to repeat itself.

Re: Stanley v Rotherham match thread

A very good game, Stanley were worth their half-time lead, playing some nice free flowing football. Marking & pressing for the Rotherham goal was the stuff of schoolboy's with backing off & backing off but a good finish never the less.

The game then became a see-saw affair with Stanley just lacking that killer punch with Symes in particular trying to take extra touches in and around the area and ending up looking like "Bambi on Ice" as Rotherham pressed forward a good run from Winnard a good pass for Ryan to steer it in from inside the box.

Which is probably no more than Stanley desreved for their endevour going forward, what was good to see was a tactical sustitution with Miles off and Flynn on to shore things up at the back and at last defending high up the pitch that was really pleasing.

A massive result and a workmanlike performance from the Reds

On Stanley On

Well a fantastic 3 points tonight, !!!!

Bouzanis, 1 World Class save in the second half, no chance with the goal. Keep him in!
Winnard, Solid
Lees, See Winnard
Kempo, ROCK, Won everything in the air.
Edwards. Another class performer

Ryan, Another assist and goal, Simply Brilliant. ARE YOU WATCHING JEFF!!!!
Proccy, Box to box never stopped running
Joyce, See Proccy
Miles, Had his best game this season for me, 1st 60 mins he was very good indeed.

Kee, Brilliant, Never gave up, could have scored but looks like a different player when starting
Symes, Great goal, looks massively tired still mind, !!!

Subs

Flynn, Made some good tackles!

Re: Stanley v Rotherham match thread

So the Stanley juggernaut rolls on. What a marvellous win, with Stanley absolutely battering Rotherham in the first half, then defending like heroes when the inevitable reaction came from the opposition in the second half. Bouzanis was outstanding in goal but every man jack in the team played out of his skin to claim a richly deserved 3 points. I was worried when Joyce missed the first of his 2 gilt edged chances at 1-0, and United went straight down the other end to equalise, although it seemed like Ryan was fouled in the build up. Another bad moment when Stanley's defence stopped playing at the linesman's flag for offside for their disallowed goal, but this time the opposition pressuring the ref didn't work! Fantastic run and delivery from Winnard for Jimmy's winner and the Clayton End cranked up the volume even more than their match long racket. Brilliant night.:D

I have to say this post is also spot on, I too felt I had watched a thrilling game which see-sawed either way in the second half, only spoiled by some whinging and whining by Rotherham players, especially when the goal was disallowed. The liner had his flag up for offside as soon as the ball was kicked, just because it came off 2 Stanley players does not put them onside. Thank goodness for a strong referee. He officiated really well tonight. Can we have him back at the Crown please, not card or whistle happy, tried to play advantage on a few occasions, but brought the ball back for the original foul when the side looked to be loosing the ball within a few seconds. Really pleased for the team and the management.
Oh - one other little thing that disappointed me, Eric Whalley in the Presidents lounge with his son and family.
The whole family should be told to stay away permanently!!!

Thought Jimmy Ryan deserved man of the match by a country mile tonight. Though it seems like ages since we haven't given away a penalty/OG so for one of the centre halves to get it is probably fair :D

Good to see Boozer have a good game. Coley will now face a difficult decision, does he recall Bavs who really hasn't done a bad job since his return from injury or does he stay with Boozer who has been exceptional in the last one and a half games and maintain a winning team? My guess is he retains Boozer? What do you lads think?

I wuv you too , Joe.....

Seriously, the middle "ultra" section is getting wider & wider. Youngsters are filling the Clayton End to join in & the support has ramped up a gear (inspite of some Jedward songs lol). But its only as good as the last game, same again Saturday please everyone. Drum died last night but will be fixed & snare should be back too.....

Extra 10% from the players I am sure with noisy passionate fanaticals from the Clayton End...

Re: Stanley v Rotherham match thread

I was one of the ones on the thread on millersmad praising your fans. I have to admit, despite absolutely hating league 2 and its terrible standard of football (RUFC are part of that so dont think im being billy big bolloks), I really enjoyed Accys family atmosphere.

Your fans are a credit and sing non stop and show great enthusiasm. You also have a team that, at times, play some good football. I do think had we turned up for 90 minutes and not 45 minutes we would have won though as its rare that Le Fondre misses chances.

One thing I totally disagree with you on is the dissallowed goal. It was a goal kick and I believe you cant be offside from a goal kick. Furthermore, Le fondre picked up the ball in the 2nd phase of play from an Accy defender which means hes onside. On all accounts hes not offside and you got away with it, a poor decision by linesman and a weak referee for not allowing the goal.

Apart from that credit to your club, players and fans.

Superb game of tuesday night football and thankfully the drum died so in a way i was glad i could finally just watch the game for once!!! Was a great tuesday night game and stanley deserved their win and put in so much effort even when looking very tired!! Did anyone else notice Symes looking very tired? Miss placing his passes here and there and even an airshot at one time when in the box! Deano had another great game and we all found out he can just skip past players aswell like a Brazilian!!! Phil kept le fondre at bay and also bouzza had a great game and what a superb save in the second half! However we gradfted the win and it was well deserved!

Superb atmosphere as usual, same again Saturdayyyy!! :)

Sorry mate but the rules of offside state that when the ball is kicked forward and crosses the centre line if a player is forward of the last defender then they are offside and to be fair to the linesman he raised his flag straight away prior to Stanley players involvement.

shakermaker 17-03-2010 16:18

You can't be offside if the ball is received directly from a goal kick.

Just a little video of last night:

YouTube - I Am A Stanley Fan - Stanley Ultras 16.03.2010

That was FANtastic, thanks for posting that my good man!! If we can re-create that last 15 minutes for the whole game on Saturday, then there will be only one winner!!!

As somone stated, you cant be offside from goal kicks.

Im pretty sure I know that if a player is forward of the last defender past the halfway line its offside. However, there are certain circumstances when that isnt the case.. 2 of them are...

1. From a goal kick
2. If that player recieves is not involved in the first phase of play but gets involved in the 2nd phase of play

So the fact the linesman had his flag straight up just goes to say the linesman got it wrong, quickly.

If you feel disappointed so did we.

How I came away from your place (err the sports stadium you play at) without seeing my team take at least one point I will never know neither did the police sergeant who commiserated with us outside the ground.

The good thing about these highlights is that they clearly show that the Millers' disallowed goal did not come from a goal kick, so all the red herrings about not being offside from a goal kick are completely groundless. The goalkeeper had the ball on the edge of his penalty area before he hoofed it up the field. I have to say, I hadn't realised this on the night, but it's good to see that justice was, in fact, done.
