Premier League Ref

As you lot are always moaning about the standard of ref ;) it's interesting to note that the man in the middle next week against Barnet is actually Premiership referee Mark Halsey.

I beleive it's his first league game back after fighting throat cancer. I actually think he is was always one of the better refs. Pleased to see him recover and hope you lot will be pleased to see him back to see him back :).

Well spotted lancsdave!1

we have invited Mark down to enjoy a live game (during his recovery"), but he opted to stay away from the "spotlight"

Just had a quick look at the other officials and it's a full team of Premiership officials, including a good friend of ours Alan Wiley who's 4th official. What a nice guy he is!! On his last visit to Accy even sent a letter to the authorities praising Accy hospitality, players, fans and pitch.

Roll on next Tuesday!!!:)

Fantastic to see that he is back and also that the authorities have seen fit to give him total support.

great to hear he's back on the circuit, always rated him. in fairness though the last 2 refs at the crown have been very good IMHO, never thought there was 2 in our division.:D

Should be a slightly less hostile than his 4th official appointment 48 hours earlier ;)

Anyone know what the pitch is like with all this rain we keep getting. Is there likely to be a pitch inspection later.

Re: Premier League Ref

heres another one as well.

i hope all goes well .. he gets the applause .. but will he get the boo's hes expecting as well

Rarely can a mid-table League Two encounter have embraced such poignancy.
'It's going to be emotional,' says Halsey. 'There have been a lot of dark days and now I'm raring to go. It will be fantastic to run out, hopefully to applause, but I expect the boos will follow. I wouldn't want it any other way.'

Re: Premier League Ref

Mark Halsy tonights ref, just recovered from throat cancer has been on radio , he expects to get boo ed tonight,it will be his first match since suffereing cancer and he can't wait ti get out on that pitch. Now how about us all giving a mighty cheer for this man, he deserves it after the suffering he has endured. Some come onUltras etc a huge cheer.

cashman 30-03-2010 12:00

Re: Premier League Ref

The guy deserves a good reception, but reckon the biggest cheer will be if the game is on.

Stopped raining, sun is out and there's a strong wind. Be dried out in ten minutes :)

Re: Premier League Ref

your right,, if this rain will easy off there is a good chance I think.Forcast says spells of showers. The ref says his wife has leukemae ( sorry bout spelling ) too, they are fund raising for Christie hospital I think.

Re: Premier League Ref

It should be on, even the schools pitches are playable today!!!

But about about the Mark, hes done amazingly well to recover from cancer and then come straight to ref`ing again! He deserves every applause at the start of the game!!! And he deserves every boo going at him if he makes a bad decision! like he has said :)

Re: Premier League Ref

Not seen it myself but apparently Mark Halsey was on SSN about an hour ago and wasn't convinced the match would still go ahead. Late inspection maybe ?

ukcowboy 31-03-2010 14:07

Re: Premier League Ref

I know this is 'cold' comfort as the game was called off late, but I was there when Mark Halsey called it, He then made a point of going over to the group of fans/press etc and apologising for not getting the game on!

How many refs can you think of that would do that I wonder?
