Cav signs
for Fleetwood this morning (on radio lancs news)
good luck Cav, Fleetwood are flying and you will be a great asset for them. Loweiy |
Re: Cav signs
Good luck Cav you will be great for them!

Re: Cav signs
Good stuff Cav, see you in August at the Crown!
|
Re: Cav signs
Am I on my own in thinking that the three post above are wrong.
Think how much the club mean to you, how much you have spent following your club, and this guy who was probably one of the better paid players and captain bet against his own team. yet you still drool over him. He as served his ban, and is free to play again but as far away from here as possible please. |

No he didn't, Cav's £5 accumulator included a bet for a stanley win. He did not bet on his team to lose unlike the others that were caught. I know it may seem a small fact for you, but for me it isn't. Its this small fact that allows me to have the good grace to wish Cav and his family well in whatever they do. If Cav had bet against the team and bet the kind of money the others did then I would probably feel the same way you do. But he didn't. So from me its a very solid hope that he can get back to enjoying his football and if he ever does get to come back to the crown in a playing capacity (opposing team only please, for his sake!), I for one will great him with a smile, a shake of the hand and good luck wishes. |
Re: Cav signs
so its ok fer a player to have a bet sparkie, so long as hes backing his team to win? sorry no way, ya break rules n get caught, ya pay the price, good riddance.:(
|
Re: Cav signs
Clean through on goal, he wouldn't have given a second thought to his "bet"
The rest had big money on it.... |
Re: Cav signs
irrelavant jase, ya break the rules ya get caught, ya pay the price, simple as.
|
Re: Cav signs
Agreed Cashman, Again.
And sparkie, we all know Cav amongst otheres where betting far larger sums that what he eventually got caught for. Yes he was our captain and served the club well, but for gods sake people move on, HE WAS BETTING ON ACCRINGTON STANLEY MATCHES WHILST PLAYING!!!!! Good riddance |
Re: Cav signs
Good luck cav. Everyone makes mistakes although that ones almost as bad as complaining about a teams performance after not going a game.
|
Re: Cav signs
Good luck, Cav. All the best.

Re: Cav signs
Obviously you wernt there for a start when cav cheered when Wycombe scored in the last minute against us at home.
Some Legend eh! |
Re: Cav signs
Well Done Cav,
At a club that is going places rapido. Yeah, im sure the FA would be intrested in that evidence you can provide. Either way Cav is a legend at the club. |

"we all know Cav amongst otheres where betting far larger sums that what he eventually got caught for" That could quite easily be interpreted as defamatory (unless you can back it up with real evidence) and could cause problems for the board if anyone was so inclined. |
Re: Cav signs
Cav who ???
|
Re: Cav signs
I'll echo the good luck sentiments to Cav and surely even those who believe he was guilty as charged can concurr that he's served his ban and is entitled to a second chance to pick up his playing career again.
|
Re: Cav signs
I too wish Cav luck with his future, By the rules he was guilty and served his time. Morally he was innocent, and is forgiven by me.
The others will get no good wishes off me, because they are greedy bastards who not only let the fans down, but the club, the town, the county, the country, Europe................. Because the Scumbags bet in such large amounts, it would be too easy to influence the result. |

Don't wish him any harm elsewhere, but i cannot understand why some would wish him back, do they not understand if ya break rules, get caught, ya pay the price?

The Chapter is closed and needs to remain so

Re: Cav signs
whats done is done, it can't be changed, the past is the past is the past.I know there is sentiment from some people but what good will it do keep going on about it, just get behind the current set of players we have now in our most successful season we have had since our return to the football league.

Re: Cav signs
The football league rules were indeed broken, Cav was rightly punished.
The accumulator that Cav had was the bookies version of the pools, the stake & winnings would not make it worthwhile influencing any games. The rules were introduced to stop big money bets and match-fixing. The Football League banned players gambling on their own league or matches that they are involved in, All bets from 1p upwards. Cav was a working man, like many of us, he likes a flutter, like many of us, he bet a fiver, he could have won a couple of hundred if all his matches had the right result, he probably did it every week, he most probably did it as a side, from the horses whilst waiting for a result to come in. The amounts Cav was involved in would not have been worthwhile trying to fix any matches, and would not have raised any eyebrows with the authorities, that is, until the greedy ones got caught. If Cav did have the ability to influence the result, we would have won more games. Cav broke the "rules" but he didn't bet on us to lose. Playing in a match, when you have big money riding on getting beaten, opens up many avenues of corruption and should be punished with prison and a lifetime ban from sport. Betting on your own team to win, although against the rules, is morally right. Also if you bet big money on your team to win, would this not give more motivation to play better. I stand with Ray on the Clayton end, every game he puts £2 or £3 on Stanley to win 2-1. Some he wins, some he loses, I think he is in profit this season for the first time in years. I regard Cav and Ray as the same in the gambling stakes, hence Cav is forgiven, and Williams, Harris and Mannix will never be forgiven. |
Re: Cav signs
understand what yer saying mike, still don't make him morally innocent.IMHO.

Re: Cav signs
I agree with "Mike" whoever he is......

For me Cav had a bet (under dispute still in some parts!) he broke the rules, he was wrong and he's done his given penalty. That he placed this bet knowing it broke the rules does annoy me and I am glad he was punished. Its the rules. However not be a cold and hardened human being like some on here, I personally find a £5 accumulator bet which includes a bet for your team to win a lot easier to forgive than a £2,000 -£5,000 bet against the team you supposedly give your all for for 90 minutes every week, to do that is to betray every single paying customer who come thorugh the turnstiles and bring the club into disrepute. I have forgiven Cav for his indescretion, I have not forgiven the others theirs. What Cav did was wrong, hes served his penalty, let the lad move on. Good luck Cav. |
Re: Cav signs
ok ta fer explaining sparkie, i personally cannot forgive the example he set to kids by making the bet, irrelevant its for or against, i agree he's served his penalty n wish no ill on him or his family, away from the club he disgraced, especially as Team Captain.

Re: Cav signs
I'm not saying anything about the fella but do people really think that these bets were the only ones these people ever placed

Exactly, I think the less mentioned of all involved would be better. If people start threads wishing any of them luck they will always be others who have the opposite opinion and it starts all over again.

cashman let it go will you or you're going to make yourself ill... don't really get the problem now as he has done the time and is at another club tbh. I personally wish him all the best, also i would welcome him back with open arms :)
HE WAS AND STILL IS AN ACCRINGTON STANLEY LEGEND!!!!! |

Re: Cav signs
OK, he's had his punishment and he deserves to be allowed to carry on with his career. I wish him all the best at Fleetwood, but if he returned to Stanley, it would be a complete Google Page Ranking disaster for the club. It's all very well for diehard fans to make the distinctions between his and the others' involvement in the case, but to the public at large, he will always be associated with this unsavoury episode during Stanley's darkest days. I thought we were supposed to be trying to "sell" the club to the local population? For crying out loud, let's wish him well and move on!

Re Cavanagh Return
I was shocked to read that Cavanagh had been signed by Fleetwood. If the management of Accrington have any thoughts of signing him for next season then they should let us know now before people buy there season tickets because I for one will not be getting mine! Dont forget once a gambler always a gambler and that goes for Williams, Mannix, Harris and Mangham. I think the supporters of Accrington Stanley should be given this info on Cavanagh as Jimmy Bell would consider taking Cavanagh back. Anybody have an opinion? |
Re: Cav signs
win lose or drow he bet so kick this rubbish and look on to new season legaue two football ... feetwood town fc go and see him if all you love him that much bets a bet ... dun now
|
Re: Cav signs
forgiven in my eyes, and wud also have him back/ the only person who will decide will be our esteemed leader anyway. if he can bring the thug mcevily back am quite sure he wudnt hesitate in bringing cav back. i think if cav reads this forum he probably wudnt want to come back anyway. the summer could be interesting!!!!

Re: Cav signs
my belief in the return of evil was that regardless of size he made every stanley fan not only feel but not look over weight
|
Re: Cav signs
evil never bet on team .... get it into your heads evil was just evil

Those who got done were just the ones caught, the ones stupid enough to put the bets on themselves whilst being watched by a CCTV system in the bookies or in Cavs case caught out by his internet/telephone betting account. You can't honestly think that others have never bet on stanley games to go one way or the other, especially before we came into the football league? Certain players were never ones for following the rules were they? :) Either way its time to let it go and in a lot of peoples cases get over it and themselves, frankly. (Cashy this is not aimed at you!:D) |
Re: Cav signs
Never thought fer a min it was Sparks.;)
