Set Pieces

is it me or throughout the season have we failed at taking corners?
im gettin sick of not being able to beat the first man from a corner, its wasting good opportunities!

who do you think should take corners? luke joyce and john miles are useless

personally id say let chris turner have a go but he doesnt get played enough

Do not diss, first man Miles.... Joyce takes a good corner, as does Bobby - when he gets ago - but must agree with you Grimsby, we have been rubbish this season!! :) :)

av always thought the room our corner takers have for a run up often hinders the taker.

Re: Set Pieces

Miles' corners are ineffective most of the time. Luke Joyce's are a little better. Chris Turner wasn't having the best of times with them against Grimsby either. Though in the defense of all set piece takers (including free kicks from deep which don't end up in 'Bobby Grant Crossbar Challenge' bouts), there doesn't seem to be much organisation in/around the box aside from our good old stepover routine. With Procter, Symes and Kempo to aim for you'd think there'd be more shots on target from such routines.

To be fair thinking about it a lot of Symes' goals have been from corners where he attacks the near post.

they did have a step over routine last season edwards stands on edge of box, taker passes it to him, he leaves it, whack jimmy ryan smashes it into net, worked a few times till mangers found out about it

Short corners every now and then wouldn't be a bad idea

Miles' corner at Bournemouth was an innovative, if equally fruitless, variation. Possibly one for "what happened next" if they still have that on telly.

We have been doing that routine since we were in the Unibond League and we still get away with it.

Re: Set Pieces

Another option would be to get Kempo infront of the keeper and try shooting from the corner a la Roberts & Craney

The best corners are when kempo or symes attacks the near post.. thats if we even reach that far
