28: first real save for Dunbavin - Craig Davies broke away and fired in a dipping shot-cum-cross from the right that the keeper had to tip over

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

32: good save from Dunbavin to deny Loft who shoots from outside the area

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

35: goal
Davies takes the ball round Kempson and gets a right foot shot away that beats Dunbavin into the roof of the net
0-1

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

HT:
Big let off for Stanley just before the whistle - Davies went through again and it looked like he'd chipped Bav, but fortunately for the Reds it dropped wide of the left hand post.

Pretty grim stuff in that first half. Windy night, bobbly pitch, below-par performance. Much work to do.

No Stanley changes that I can see.

1-1 Grant! 30 yard cracker out of the blue, according to Radio Stoke.

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

51: WHAT A GOAL!!!!!
Grant brings the ball down midway inside the Port Vale half , gets to it before a Vale player and volleys the mother beyond Martin. Cracker! Blue touch paper lit

1-1

56: great save
Ryan crosses from the right and Procter meets it with a diving header, only to see Chris Martin push it away.

All Stanley now

It's ironic that Darlington win away at the team that was top of the league and get relegated, all in the same evening.

Poor poor poor poor poor. It was poor from everyone except Vale's front two and the Ultras. How did Griffith (or whatever his name is?!) stay on the field after nearly taking Procter's head off?!?!?!

SamF 13-04-2010 21:08

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

Must've been watching a different game, thought we put in a solid performance, they were reduced to long range efforts - unfortunately for us they scored with two crackers. Proccy had an off game but in my opinion overall the team played x100 better than the last game at the crown, the lads played with a lot more determination, keep it up and we'll be back to winning ways in no time.

Pendle Red 13-04-2010 21:11

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

A little better performance after we scored, heads went up for a short time and chests went out but again too little end product.

Take nothing away from the Valiants a good attacking side and all three goals tonight were excellent.

Time to be really radical with the starting eleven and here it is:
Drop Proccy replace with Jimmy Ryan in the centre with Luke Joyce, John Miles on the Left & Chris Turner on the right attack, attack, attack

Don't be silly Google Page Ranking! Can't play Chris Turner on the wing! He plays there naturally!!!

Bobby's goal was an absolute corker, didn't think it was gonna go in. Got to give him credit for trying to gee everyone up too and also winnard for constant trying and trying. Better performance than of late but once final whistle blew the lads were all heart feltly gutted.

Absolutely agree.

Hope Jimmy Ryan's knock isn't too serious. He was my man of the match tonight.

Agreed it was better, not great but a definate improvement, Procter n Kempson are Conferance standard at best IMHO, If Jimmy Ryan was substituted cos of that knock, 3 mins of injury time left is madness, unless yer wasting time cos yer winning. sorry but to me thats "Tactically Bankrupt":( Bobby n Symes were virtually anonymus then Bobby wacks in, Best Goal ive seen this season.:) P.S. was good to see Ilyas on clayton end tonight, though was shocked the stewards never chucked him off fer standing in seating area. lol

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

We were beaten by a better side tonight. Vale were everything we are not at the moment - well drilled defence, good passing in midfield with players looking confident on the ball and plenty of movement and threat up front.
Stanley gave a slightly better performance than of late but too many players (notably in midfield) seem to have suffered a loss of form and we're just muddling through. Great goal from Grant but I can't help thinking if he put in the sort of effort that Winnard or Kee put in he'd be twice the player he is.

Fully agree. At present, we have only two players, in Jimmy Ryan and John Miles, who are comfortable on the ball. Too many others just dive in unbalanced, and treat the ball like a hot potato.

my thoughts on Bobby Grant- Last season didn't think he'd make the grade, This season has been a revelation, if he continues at stanley n works on "Power" n "Body" at some point he will become Stanleys Biggest Asset, and will earn em super money, when he moves on.:)

And that was exactly where the game was won and lost Reamer!. Whilst Vale's Midfield managed, on what was definately not the best of playing-surfaces, to find their strikers with accurate passes, all that Stanley's Midfield trio could muster, were a series of misdirected flicks and lobs, which were food and drink to Vale's back four !.
All we can hope for is a return to form, and self-belief in Stanley's 'Engine Room', otherwise the sight of 'The Reds' losing everytime we turn up at The Crown' and witness them losing to teams who are ,on the whole, little better than themselves, will bring about a return to the collective depression and concern which caused so much angst amongst the more assertive contributors to our forum last season !.
SO..'ON STANLEY..ON !'....

and give us just one or two more magic moments (like Bobby's stunning strike tonight !)..which will ensure a late victory or two to keep us warm over the close Season!.

Grant's goal brillant, and good celebrations aswell coming over to fans!!! hand on badge! glad he is staying or so the papers say! Ryan played brilllant again tonight but cant help thinking if he was in centre he would be even better, drop procter give edwards or kempo arm band! turner on right, miles left joyce ryan center. Winnard is going be a big player for us aswell, never stopped making runs up the wing tonight, lees played well, after the goal we were all over them, ball on floor to wings, ball into net, Bavs good save first hald from their first long range shot! They brought alot of fans but were silence mos of game apart from when they scored n after game when players came back out. Onwards and upwards!

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

I can never understand , When Stanley take a corner , The other players form a cresent on the far post , but the ball always goes over the top of the lot of them . Why don't they run ragged infont of the goal area ?

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

Last night, With the ball - not direct enough with passing, lack of composure. Without the ball - slow at pressing vale, low on confidence resulted with some players 'going through the motions' with half attempts to get the ball back.

I thought there was definate improvements last night, and Bobby's goal was worth being at the game to see it first hand if nothing else. Jimmy worked his socks off as always, hope the knock he suffered isn't too bad & he's ok for Saturday & I reckon if the lads keep at it in training this week, we could well see the Reds takes all 3 points against Hereford (fingers & everything else crossed till then :) )
