Khan -V- Witherspoon!
Charity Fight Night.
Wednesday 21st Apr 2010. http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/gfx/news/ball.gifhttp://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/gfx/news/line.gif Date Set as Accrington Stanley Chairman goes toe to toe with ‘Terrible’ Tim Witherspoon. The date has been set for the Chairman of League 2 side Accrington Stanley, Ilyas Khan, to face former heavy weight champion Tim Witherspoon in a charity boxing bout at the Accrington’s Dunkenhalgh Hotel on Thursday 3rd June. Khan promised to fight for the football club’s survival when the club faced a winding up order in October 2009, not knowing that his promise would literally be put to the test in a boxing ring. http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/gfx/IMG_63132sml.jpg “I will be proudly wearing my Club colours and climbing into the ring for three rounds against “Terrible” Tim Witherspoon. I am told it will be no more than a light sparring session for the ex World Champ, but that’s what he thinks. I have entered into a strict training regime to rediscover the skills acquired as an amateur boxer in my youth and I’m hoping to catch Witherspoon with his guard down” Khan confidently said. The vibe from within the Witherspoon camp is that although these events are arranged as a light hearted charity event once the atmosphere and adrenalin starts pumping the fight becomes a reality. It was suggested that Khan trains hard and gets himself in peak condition because one “flick” from our man will have him on the deck. The charity fight night, in aid of the Leonard Cheshire Disability Charity and Accrington Stanley Football Club has been arranged by Maree Boxing Promotions of Gisburn, Lancashire and the football club. The whole event is set to contain a three course meal, auction of Football and Boxing memorabilia, and as well as hosting a range of amateur boxing bouts, prior to the main fight there will be the end of season player awards. Tickets are now on sale for the event from Accrington Stanley F.C. we have one remaining VIP table for 10 persons which will include champagne reception and canapés, bout sponsorship with all literature inclusions. Your reception held in the VIP room will include private access to Tim Witherspoon and other celebrities. For ticket information please contact Neala Barker or Dan Warburton at the club at 0871 434 1968 or email [email protected]. At least Ilyas will have a few weeks to recover after his Marathon at the weekend!! :) :) :) |
Re: Khan -V- Witherspoon!
Ilyas is raising money for Leonard Cheshire Disability, a charity that supports many thousands of disabled people to live life their way. The money he raises will help the charity to continue working with disabled people at its local services across the country, whether it’s the residential services that offer 24 hour nursing support or nursing in peoples own homes, to day centres that offer a place to socialise and to make the most of wide ranging facilities that help build life and vocational skills, from gardening to getting a job. There are six Leonard Cheshire Disability services just like this within 18 miles of Accrington Stanley’s hallowed turf, that support hundreds of local disabled people.

That Witherspoon would have stood no chance against the stewards at Gresty today, ask Jimmy Bell!!!
|
Re: Khan -V- Witherspoon!
Wonder if he used to go Accy ABA above Funnies the same time as me?
He looks more of a middle weight to me so he must be brave, but I wish him well for his charity. I have been to Leonard Cheshire services and seen what a good job they were doing keeping people with severe physical disabilities, like cerebral palsy, living as independently as possible. |

Chairman Training.
Friday 7th May 2010. Accrington Stanley Chairman Says “Boxing Training Is Brutal”. After recently completing his Twelfth Marathon, Accrington Stanley Chairman Ilyas Khan now has his sights set on his boxing bout with former Heavy Weight Champion ‘Terrible’ Tim Witherspoon. Khan’s vigorous training so far has been focussed around stamina building for the mighty feat of the London Marathon. But with that milestone accomplished, he knows there is still a long way to go. Ilyas has been training with local Gym owner Kevin Maree this week and said “Kevin Maree’s state of the art training facility is a pleasure to work in. Despite the fact that I am the least likely boxer ever to walk into his ring, he has been brilliant in helping me gain the basics and I grateful for his help and advice” When asked how the training is going, Ilyas replied “I have started to train for the boxing match now that the London Marathon is behind me. My arms are sore, and I don’t know if at my ripe old age I ought to be doing so much punching !” Ilyas isn’t shy of physical training but told us “boxing training is brutal. I have started doing some focused punch bag and skipping work, and I have also been in a 5 round sparring session that was enough to floor me. There is no doubt that professional boxers are amongst the fittest athletes in the world” The charity exhibition bout is due to take place at the Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel on Thursday the 3rd June, leaving just 4 weeks for Ilyas to recall the boxing skills he learnt as a youth. Tickets for the event are on sale now call 01254 356 950 for more details. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) |
Re: Khan -V- Witherspoon!
:) Should be some phots on kippax web site from todays training :) Tony said he was putting them on this afternoon:) http://www.kipax.com/
|
Re: Khan -V- Witherspoon!
I've just looked at Kippax's photogallery and the said pictures.
I think it would be a good idea that on the night, Ilyas removes his glasses prior to stepping into the ring with Mr Witherspoon. |

The auction made thousands. The bar made thousands, and i lost hundreds Meal was great, 10 meals shared between 8! The ring girls were duly ogled, would have been rude not too. |
Re: Khan -V- Witherspoon!
There's a video of the fight on the Observer website now. Look closely about the half way mark to spot Terrible Tim giveing the Accy Champ one under the belt.

ASFC Corporate Boxing Night.
Tuesday 8th Jun 2010. Grand Total announced. There’s a buzz in the air at the Crown Ground this week after Accrington Stanley’s fundraising boxing event raised a grand total of £28,754.78. The proceeds will be in aid of the Leonard Cheshire Disability, a charity that supports many thousands of disabled people to live life their way. There are six Leonard Cheshire Disability services within 18 miles of Accrington Stanley’s hallowed turf. Proceeds will also be in aid of Accrington Stanley’s Development Fund, a new scheme with objectives to advance current ventures and projects, focusing purely on the stadium and facilities to ensure resources are suitable for use and meet the exacting requirements of the Football League, and Almost 300 guests attended the evening, which was held at the Dunkenhalgh Spa & Hotel. This is the first event of such magnitude to be held by the Club and apparently won’t be the last. The team that organised the event have expressed their gratitude to all the sponsors, business partners and guests and are confident that the success of the night was a true sentiment of the support for Accrington Stanley Football Club. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) |
Re: Khan -V- Witherspoon!
there would be a bigger buzz going round the terraces, if those at the helm, become pro-active, instead of waiting fer oppertunity to fall in there laps.
