Barnet match thread
Evening all
Time for another night of talking to myself! Three changes - Joyce, Miles and Ryan out. Turner, McConville and Flynn in. The latter starts in the centre of midfield. Stanley: Dunbavin, Lees, Kempson, Edwards, Winnard, McConville, Flynn, Procter, Turner, Symes, Grant |
Re: Barnet match thread
Funniest thing I've seen at football this year - Ultras in fluorescent jackets with a banner proclaiming "Football is nothing without stewards"
Magnificent! We're underway |
Re: Barnet match thread
Sounds like a more defensive line up than normal, might be a good idea :)
|
Re: Barnet match thread
So Dunsavin's not banned after being sent off against Crewe? BBC site says he is:
Accrington, winless in nine, will be without keeper Ian Dunbavin, who starts a two-match ban after being sent off in the 5-1 thrashing at Crewe. |
Re: Barnet match thread
Dunbavin had his red card rescinded after appeal earlier today.
the BBC are wrong ;-) |
Re: Barnet match thread
7 mins: first chance
Grant speculative effort (35 yds) tipped over by Jake COle |
Re: Barnet match thread
10: Barnet's David Livermore fires well over after a layoff fromjohn O'Flynn
The Ultras sing "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" in his honour... |
Re: Barnet match thread
12: Procter heads over from a Tom Lees cross
|
Re: Barnet match thread
Evening all..................guess who is baby sitting tonight!!
Now then Matchday...........cd? :) |
Re: Barnet match thread
18: we all thought Stanley had scored...
Turner found Symes down the left channel, squared an McConville tapped it home at the back stick. Except he didn't. Cos Gary Breen cleared it off the line... |
Re: Barnet match thread
Pete, your other half is in possession of a gift for you... :-)

Re: Barnet match thread
I went for a minute then folks - internet bust!
Kempson's just limped off - replaced by Murphy |
Re: Barnet match thread
how long did the Ultras stewarding protest last for Dan/Ben/Martyn?
|
Re: Barnet match thread
I am assuming that your internet is down again Dan................or is it that the match is sooooooooooo riveting?................;)
|
Re: Barnet match thread
Ht - 0-0
|
Re: Barnet match thread
Sorry Pete and Rob - you've correctly assumed that my internet went down again!!!!
The protest lasted from about ten mins before kick off until the game started (or thereabouts, as much as I'd LIKE to just watch the Ultras I've had one or two other bits to do) Pete, to bring you up to speed, Symes fired one shot wide and saw another blocked behind for a corner. Paul Furlong looked clean through for the visitors but ran out steam and Johnny Flynn got it away. Not the best game - but at least Stanley have been on top!!!! |
Re: Barnet match thread
Oh, and there's just me doing this tonight - bloody part timers!!!!
|
Re: Barnet match thread
Thanks Dan................the pressures of sports journalisim eh?
Well at least one of us appreciates it mate! |
Re: Barnet match thread
As I said at the start, I'm spending the evening talking to myself!!!!
Back underway here - no changes |
Re: Barnet match thread
keep it up Dan, folks are relying on ya!
|
Re: Barnet match thread
Paul Furlong's just gone in the book for a high boot
|
Re: Barnet match thread
51: Symes drives the ball goalwards from a tight angle on the right, Cole parries and Procter unleashes one from the edge of the box but sees it charged down.
Tom Lees then hooks the second rebound (can there be such a thing?) wide |
Re: Barnet match thread
53: McConville crosses from the right; Grant gets up but heads wide. Should have perhaps done better...
|
Re: Barnet match thread
Hour gone. Not the best game, but having seen the last nine I'm not complaining too much!!
|
Re: Barnet match thread
63 mins: DISASTER!
I've broken my pen... Had you going for a sec tho!!! |

Kee plays a one two with Symes, and prods the ball beyond COle into the bottom right. Don't look now folks but we are winning a game! |
Re: Barnet match thread
I am officially dancing a little jig to accompany the MAGNIFICENT stanley support in the Clayton End - we've just had a brilliant Ultras-dressed-as-stewards conga too
|
Re: Barnet match thread
can you spot any cod there tonight dan?
|
Re: Barnet match thread
Barnet commentator just said that the stewards were doing the conga!!! not realising the Ultras are highly visible :-)
|
Re: Barnet match thread
you got commentary macca?
|
Re: Barnet match thread
There are about a dozen Grimsby fans in the Clayton End I reckon - cue the strains of "we're having a party when Grimsby stay up" from all!

Five bookings, 3 for us and 2 for Barnet.....has it been a niggly game Dan?

|
Re: Barnet match thread
Waheyyyy the monkey's off our backs:)
Not a classic but a result that's really all that mattered, summat to build on for the last two games of the season Ultras in good voice along with our sea shanty friends from the East Coast, Hi-Viz vests classic touch:D |
Re: Barnet match thread
Two poor sides, their number 7 was good , the Ultras were brill, bavs kept a clean sheet so the three points were welcome

Re: Barnet match thread
The Hi-Viz conga was brilliant, well done to all the participants, they nearly missed the goal.
The Grimsby fans were very happy, good luck to them on Saturday. |
Re: Barnet match thread
Don't let anyone say the Stanley players are just going through the motions, because that was a gutsy, committed performance. Great night on the Clayton End - felt like we had won promotion. Billy Kee - please come back next season. Any chance, I wonder?

top man for me was billy the red we need him on from the start ... can we keep him for good ....

Re: Barnet match thread
Just got back to sunny wigan, game could be described as dour, but and it is a BIG but, we got the 3 points we deserved on the balance of play, could and should have been 3 or 4 but lets just be glad we won. Some of the rugby tackles that Barnet were getting away with (didn't know the Crown had changed its name from Twickenham) was plain stupid, how the liner and the ref missed them I do not know. Roll on saturday and hope we can do Morecambe a favour (did I really say that). Crowd was low tonight - just over 1200. GL to GTFC on saturday.
|
Re: Barnet match thread
there number 7 was adomah, hes rated one of the best wingers in the division, dont think acci could afford him,he will be playing at an higher level next year i am sure, deanos quick but hes like usain bolt !!! although hes not been on a winning side against acci this year
|
Re: Barnet match thread
Symes was very good tonight, won most balls in the air, held play up brilliantly and linked up well with everybody, his best display in months!!!
|
Re: Barnet match thread
Nothing could surpass Saturday, till tonight.
Love you all....... |

Re: Barnet match thread
Yes, well done Ultras - absolutely brilliant yet again! However, to come to more mundane matters, like last night's game, was anyone else impressed by the display of Peter Murphy when he came on? I make no bones about it, I just didn't think he was good enough. but I thought that last night he provided exactly what we've been lacking - someone to break down attacks and win balls in front of the centre of our back four. Could it be that he has at last found his true role? It may be just me, but I like to give credit where it's due, so well done Peter!
|
Re: Barnet match thread
well gotta say,i thought Murphy had a steady game when came on, be interesting to see if he retains his place on sat.

Re: Barnet match thread
Sorry Jeff, can't agree. I thought Flynn was great when he moved back to replace Darran but didn't handle the midfield destroying job anywhere near as well as Murphy. Incidentally, contrary to what you seem to believe -"I think that you may have got Murphy and Flynn mixed up"I'm not totally stupid!
|
Re: Barnet match thread
Didn't think Murphy played at all well, but I don't blame him as he was thrown in at the deep end. Flynn played well both in midfield and at centre-half.
|
Re: Barnet match thread
Fair enough Shaker. As I said before,I don't think Murphy has really got the ability to play at this level, so I was probably looking for the best in him after a few quite disappointing performances. It's easy to kick a man when he's down and I really did think he played quite well last night, so thought it might be an idea to give the lad a bit of encouragement. Evidently most other people didn't see his display in the same light, so maybe I'd better make an appointment at Specsavers tomorrow!:)
|
Re: Barnet match thread
Have to agree with oldgobbin, thought murphy did the job asked of him very well ie holding midfield roll ,He was very effective and disciplined and didnt allow the balls to be played into there forwards feet.
They had to go ariel and flynn and edwards dealt with it. He didnt run around like a chicken with no head ! and i thought he played the role as good if not better than flynn. Accis midfield have been crying out for a holding midfielder for months and it was a big call by the manager to put a defender in there in lieu of a normal midfielder |
Re: Barnet match thread
I thought Pete Murphy did ok, certainly didn't notice him make any glaring errors but why put him on in midfield when we had John Mullin on the bench??

Re: Barnet match thread
I've just watched the highlights on the BBC website - BBC Sport - Football - Accrington Stanley 1-0 Barnet - don't know if that'll come up as a link or not .
Edit - oh good, it did! Watch out for Shaun McConville celebrating his "goal" as the ball goes past him after the clearance off the line - I'm sure it's a celebration not an appeal :) |
Re: Barnet match thread
from were we were standing, the ball was oer the line to me. still we won. defender seemed about 2 ft behind line when made clearance.
|
Re: Barnet match thread
My own thought when Sean shot was instead of going for placement put your laces through it, it did seem however as though as he did reel away to celebrate
