Accy Accommodation

Can anyone recommend a decent B&B in Accy?

Been studying fixture list since its came out - Fri night v Lincoln looks good, but will drive back home the same night.

However quite fancy also coming down for Morecambe game on New Years day & staying in Accy to see Chesterfield game a couple of days later.

Anyone get any recommendations, please let me know.

Cheers

Try the Hotel-De-Ultra, not too sure of the phone number, but the owner can be found on here sometimes :D

Who is coming down Col??? Up your way around 24th, may pop round and see you!!!! :)

Colney House, corner of Hartmann Street and Blackburn Road. Comfy, clean, friendly owners and very reasonable at approx £28 for B&B (including a full English). Only drawback is it's a fair way from the ground, but walkable in under 30 mins, or you can get a cab. :)

What about Norwood House opposite the Crown pub......it might be a little more expensive, but it is right across the road from the ground and of course the pub

Thanks for all responses folks - gives me something to go on.

Just so you guys know, Norwood is one of the worst B&B's ever - which is a pity when, as stated earlier, its close proximity to the ground makes it an otherwise ideal place to stay. A quick check on tripadvisor will reveal all you need to know about their nutball owner!

Joe - by all means, pop in. I'm actually down in Morecambe on 21st & 22nd, but will be free anytime after that. (if you need me to re-send directions just let me know). Likely to be my dad coming down for new year games but hopeful that Danielle will join me for Lincoln game.

I would be quite wary of the reviews on trip advisor.
We have been to some places which had awful reviews on trip advisor and found that they were nothing like the reviews portrayed.

Now, if your views have been formed as a result of a personal experience, or that of someone you actually know, then that is different.
But don't just take the word of the reviewers on trip advisor.

Re: Accy Accommodation

Still sticking by my original recommendation. Brilliant value for money, friendly owners. Only major drawback is a lack of pubs in that area these days. Still, a cab's easier enough to get, after a few beers in the Crown or Oak Lea.

Anyone know this 'Stuart', the owner?

Get him to join Accy Web.

OFSTED inspectors have been known to stay here and praise it no end. Not sure on price though.

Re: Accy Accommodation

Margaret - agreed, had cause to be wary of tripadvisor in past - but often when such a large amount of people are saying the same thing, there tends to be at least an element of truth to it. Sadly I did have the midfortune of staying there last year and his attitude was absolutely appaling. Would never return.

Wynonie - I have a feeling I might have stayed at the place you mentioned a couple of years ago - it was a bit further out but the place itself was nice. Had a massive staircase if memory serves.

Being further out not a prob anyway as I'll probably be popping into Peel Park for a couple pre-match.

It's a high staircase, as it's a three-storey building, so you've probably got the right place. If you're going up the Peel Park, you'll definitely need to get a cab. Worth a try, anyway.

Do you get to sleep in the bed where Edward VII supposedly played tunnels and trains, with Accrington's glamorous Steiner sisters?

:D

Dunno, as the match had been cancelled, after I arrived, so I wasn't in the mood for musings of a historical nature!

Maple Lodge take the overspill from the dunkenhalgh...so their standards are high.....Not sure about their prices, but if you want to stay over the New Year period it would be wise to be enquiring about a booking now....and if you are staying for a few nights then you might even be able to negotiate a discount.

Margaret Pilkington 06-07-2010 18:38

Re: Accy Accommodation

I have just checked the prices and they are from £44 per room.
it is just around the corner from us and our relatives stayed there when they came over from Oz a couple of years ago...they liked the place.

Stayed at the Maple last time I came up 'home'. Friendly owner, clean & comfortable with car park at rear.

Don't know if it's any help but I can back up what Wynonie Harriss says about the Colney House. I stay there every time I come back to Accy and it's fine. Tel. for it is 01254 234385.

Re: Accy Accommodation

Okay having done a couple of checks, and spoken to my better half, it was definitely Colney House we stayed at a couple of years back. Was a nice set-up with a very spacious room. (I think we snuck in a late nite Chinese too, which was most definitely against their rules........oops!).

Teach - notice u stay in Lincoln! You're almost coming as far north west (I think???) as I am coming south for Accy games. You going to Lincoln game on Fri 17th Sept. Fri games suit me a bit better so I'll be there.

I have stayed at Pilkington's, the old AEU Club on Blackburn rd corner of Paxton St. Clean and a VG breakfast. I think I paid £25-£30 in November. Have stayed several times. but not had an ensuite. The place does not feature on the Hyndburn website. On that website is shown a pace on Blackburn rd, opposite Pilkington's, which appears to be a fried chicken shop. I have also stayed at Colney House - VG. I know also that the Imperial pub and the Spread Eagle across the road take borders.
