As Burscough game was off today went to watch Southport Vs Eastwood really to watch a couple of ex reds, Toddy playing for Eastwood who we had a quick word with, and a certain Mr Williams in the Southport side to whom (thro a club official) we sent kindest regards from the clayton end lol. Eastwood fans kept asking if he had any good tips dont know where they got that one from honest.

Accrington Stanley v Clitheroe
http://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/g.../clitheroe.gif
Accrington Stanley travel to Clitheroe on Tuesday evening in our first pre-season friendly ahead of the 2010/11 campaign, kick off 7.45pm.

Admission for the game has been set at £5 for adults and £2 for concessions. A full strength Stanley side will make the short trip, together with one or two trialists that could soon put pen to paper should they impress. Clitheroe had a good season last year, finishing eighth in the Northern Premier League Division One.

This is the first pre-season match of the week, on Thursday evening we travel to Heswall, kick off 7.00pm.

A damp night ,but six goals to cheer 410 supporters up. At three nil down at half time I was suited to see some first teamers on for the second half. Three all was fair, the pies were good.

Thought coley might have mix it up abit from the start instead of just trialists, leam richards look good when he came on for the second half and jimmy ryan!!a much better second half best to forget about the first half IMHO

Numbers 7, 8 and 11, were good, Number 9 was worth another game, but is a bit of a whinger. I'll keep quiet about the rest of the first half team. in the second half the bloke with no number looked capable.
I hope that helps. :)

Re: First Taste Of Action

haha good point Dave.

1st half was a shocker from us, the entire back 4 had nightmares

Ray Putterill looked a decent central midfielder, he went off after about 70 mins (Number 8)
Number 7 also had a half decent game in the middle, sure that was Parkinson???

Agreed Jimmy Ryan and Leam looked a different class when they came on for the 2nd half.

Very entertaining game mind, Ultra's hilarious once again :)

Heswall away anybody???

:) Like we said at the game mick ;):D.... :eek:First half stanley were all over the place and clitheroe deserved to be 3 up at half time, these trialists for stanley did't look like they wanted a contract apart from 2 or 3 of them, our new keeper didn't have the best first half seem 100% better second half.

Just got back, was very much a game of two halves! Line-ups are below

Alex Cisak
Ben Hoskin, Danny McDonaugh, Sean Hessey (c), Dermot McCaffrey
Andy Parkinson, Ray Putterell, Michael Byrne, James Bennett
Mark Mango, Vesseko Gramero

2nd half

Leam Richardson, Phil Edwards, Jimmy Ryan, Oliver Devenny, Michael Dukes, Ryan Kendal, Rory Balding all came on. Luke Joyce came on late on.

Players playing 90 mins were Cisak, McCaffrey (I think), Hessey.

Match report - FULL TIME: Clitheroe 3 Accrington Stanley 3 (From Lancashire Telegraph)

The team were all over the place in the first half and looked like they'd never played together ... given that the team was entirely full of triallists (and Cisak), it wasn't surprising!

The introduction of Phil, Jimmy and Leam made all the difference for the second half. With some cohesion to the team, it allowed Ray Putterill to play to his abilities and he was very impressive. If we can sign him, I'd be very happy! Hopefully, his long-term injury problems are behind him.

The forwards in the second half looked promising - and they need to be after we've lost Bobby Grant, Michael Syme, Billy Kee and Gary King! - but they benefitted from having a solid spine to the team, which the forwards in the first half didn't have.

A difficult game in terms of the weather and especially in terms of the pitch ... I thought our pitch had a slope until tonight's game! Hard to judge the triallists in the first half as the team was so disjointed, but plenty to enthuse about the second half.

Re: First Taste Of Action

An evening summed up perfectley by the saying "a game of two halves" first half awful although credit to Clitheroe they played some good football and their number 9 was a livewire creating havoc among the Stanley back four, second half much better performance with the introduction of first teamers added a bit of bite and calmness on the ball that was missing first half.

All in a all a good run out and no doubt a bit of food for thought for Coley & Jimmy who now have some tough descisions to make.

A bit of info on some of the trialists:

Dermot McCaffrey - Dermot McCaffrey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Andy Parkinson - Andy Parkinson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Michael Jukes - No link I'm afraid. Think he's a striker who was a trainee at Wigan.
Ray Putterill - Ray Putterill
James Bennett - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_B...8footballer%29 (I think! There's a few with that name.)
Oliver Devenney - No link. Released second year scholar from Burnley.
Michael Burns - Michael Burns (footballer) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (As with Bennett, there's a few with that name.)
Marc Manga - French striker who was on non-contract terms with Dale last season.
Rory Boulding - Rory Boulding - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ryan Kendall - Ryan Kendall - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From playing Football Manager, Ray Puterill is a young winger if I'm correct so sounds like Bobby's potential replacement?

smudgie 14-07-2010 11:50

Re: First Taste Of Action

I was going to say the same about Puterill.

He played in central mid for us yesterday and looked the part.

As did that striker Ryan Kendall.

A few good trialist's on show hope they keep it up over next few games.
