Now that is a big blow!
The Burnley friendly usually pays the July wages.

That shouldn't be a problem because according to Heys and O'Neill we will be breaking even this season.

Not really surprised but glad they're being sensible about it - would have been a shame to undo all the work that's been done on the pitch ............ maybe we could play it on Livy Road instead :)

Is the control box in it's new position yet ? If not then that could have contributed to the postponment.

didn't i read a statement from DON last week saying that the game could and would go ahead with or without any grass on the pitch? Turning down the biggest money making game of the season, call me cynical but i think there''s more to this!

Think you could be right, Jeff. A while ago the pitch looked as though it would be ready, though admittedly not from a close up inspection.

:) I think your looking for something that isn't there,i posted a bit a go that the club was working with the contracters who did the work and it was been moniterd on a daily bases,at the end of the day the club wants to have the best pitch possible and if postponing a friendly all be it Burnley then so be it.I know what i'd rarther have and thats the best possibe pitch any time:)

An obvious and pragmatic answer Mark !!...However,being of a more adventurous outlook,I prefer to think that along with the other Management appointments, Stanley might now have a Clairvoyant on their Staff !! to construct their press releases, and just think what ramifications that could have !. any suggestions ??

This is from the interview with David O'Neill dated 16 July:

Will the pitch be ready for the Burnley game?
I sincerely hope so. It’s looking a bit thin in places but the pitch contractor is fairly confident that we can play on there. The makeup of the pitch itself is different to other pitches, unlike park pitches which are just soil. Ours is now a sandy composition that we have to keep watered, we don’t really need grass on it effectively but it’s nice to play on green isn’t it!

Re: v Burnley friendly

Having been up at the ground most days since the pitch was relaid I have said it would be touch and go as to whether it would be ready, from the touch line it looks great but when you go on it the grass is very thin down the middle, anyway we can all go to southport now and give Rocky some stick, could be more entertaining than the dingles.

I wonder when our ground safety certificate is up.
I am sure it's usually just before the start of each season.
They will have to visit us soon......

Not being too skilled in the science of Chemotrophic Auxesis RR...would you think it forward of me to suggest that they put some muck on it !!.

So, what's the score with the new control box? Have they made a start on it yet? They seem to be cutting it fine, if they haven't got it underway. Is this yet something else that I'll have to start fretting over?

Methinks that could be a sensible idea. Does Alfred E concur?

TOUCHE !!.....and I'm going GREEN !!...

Alfred .E.....says... '
I had a dog who ate some horse manure once.
It DID make him very energetic for a few hours.
Then he puked and died.

TOTALLY IRRELEVANT !!

A bit of a blow for Alfred E., Mr Y, as I believe he was hoping to bring along his girlfriend, Moxie Cowznofski, along to the match. She was going to get her vulvazulu out specially for the occasion. Pity, that. ;)

And therein lies the problem Dave !!!.....should it have been manured before, during, or after seeding ??...has the mini heatwave followed by the deluge diminished the hoped-for effects of the Muck (Sorry... Manure !)....
The Plot thickens.... as will the Muck, hopefully !.
We must have faith in the experts though...and to return to the thread....the correct decision regarding the Burnley fixture has IMHO been made...
Will miss having Burnley here though as I'm sure you will agree !.
