Thousands Attend Open Training Day
"Six thousand fans packed the East Stand at St. James' Park as the club held an open training day just five days before the start of the Barclays Premier League opener against Manchester United."

This was taken from our website. 6k people attended an open training day session at 11am this morning, 6,000! You's lot are definitely going to make a profit off this! I don't intend to sound bitter or small time, but 6,000 is bigger than your actual capacity, and this was just for a training session. We would fill your ground if we could.

Don't take it the wrong way, it wasn't a bite.

Don't worry, I've heard all about your lot. I think it's a great movement for lower league football. Don't Aldershot have good ultras as well, or is it just me?

Anyhow, you's lot have got some good support, I know you don't take many in numbers but most of your fans are die hard's and they sing what ever the amount. I've watched some video's on youtube of your fans in the past, very impressive.

It's stadiums, supporters and clubs like Accrington who show a prime example of what football really was like back before the modern-era. Now it's became a modern plastic money making scam. It's all about money now, you'll learn that once you move up a few divisions, that'll be the day. ;) The Premier League is the worst for it, and it's the main cause of what football is now compared to what it was. Plastic bowl stadiums, ripping the atmosphere, ridiculous transfers, the money in it now it pathetic, the Premier League allows the teams in it to distance themselves apart financially from the Football League clubs.

The game is a business now, such a shame it's came to that.

Fair enough. I watched the Chesterfield game the other night, there surface is lovely. But I suppose it should be as they've just got a new ground.

I'm so pleased you beat Doncaster. I hate that place, I definitely wouldn't of been going there. Accrington > Doncaster.

You'll like all our facilities, especially their functionality of purpose. You will certainly be delighted with the state-of-the-art air conditioned stand that you will get - even more so as it is usually combined with the overhead sprinkler system.

Is there time for 'The Contractors' to emulate the efforts made by Wembley Stadium SM ?..(from THE GUARDIAN)...

'At a cost of no less than £250,000 and probably closer to twice that amount the Football Association last month turned to a system that employs 20 million artificial fibres to support Wembley's natural grass, having previously relaid the surface an embarrassing 11 times '.

So the answer doesn't lie in the soil after all !!

Similar to what Burnley have just had done for £750,000,synthetic grass, that apparently still needs watering as they did at half time Sat.The pitch also came in for complaints and the contractors are back in at the Turf!!

You sure? I thought the figure was normally about 30/40K and it may even be that the opposition (Newcastle) get a chunk of that. In addition, on that wednesday night I'm pretty certain that Sky will also be showing a European qualifier game involving Spurs, which should be interesting for me because I'll be in London and I don't want to have to kick some north London tosspots in the goolies in order to get the right channel on t'pub telly.

I think thats more on the right lines. I thought it was only about 10k.
The league cup is the poor relation of the domestic comps. The winners only get 100K

FA Cup: prize money (£75,000 for third-round win rising to £2m for final win); TV money (£160,000 to £275,000 per live match). Carling Cup: £100,000 per live televised match

taken from some newspaper

:) Think i right in saying this!! each club 45% each of the gate money and 10% goes in to the carling cup pool after exspenses,tv money is payed to each club by sky tv reported to be £100k that will be each not £100k shared, any money from other sales ie goods from the stanleystore and ground and game sponsers for the game and programme sales will be stanleys.if the entrance fee is similer to fulhams game then your looking at a figure of around £75k!take out exspenses and fa 10% cut, both clubs may get in the region of £30k..so all in all should be a good night for the stanley coffers..

Well, I agree on your calc on the net gate receipts....but I've still got a question mark over the TV dosh. But lets hope you're right, because £130K total is one hell of a boost on the seasons turnover.

I think the fans who travelled to Doncaster, should be eligible for priority tickets. Ash will have a list of the travellers.
The club could use this list as proof of eligibility, and offer them tickets, on the same terms as the season ticket holders.
The remaining tickets can then go on open sale.
I know some made their own way to Doncaster, maybe they could show their ticket stubs to prove eligibility, and be brought onto the priority list.

The last thing I want to do is start a 'fans war', however, traditionaly season ticket holders get first dibs............fair?...........probably not, but thats how it goes.

To then alienate fans who couldnt/didnt get to Doncaster in favour of those who did is IMHO not fair either.

I dont have a solution Im afraid (wish I did!), but I think its fair to say that given our gates, then home fans should all be able to aquire tickets without too much difficulty.

Dont forget that now we have an online booking facility, so buying tickets should be easier and quicker (I know Im tempting fate with this remark lol), so lets not panic too much eh :)

Correct. I don't have a season ticket because, being down south, I can only get to about 4 or 5 home games a season - and I won't be at the Newcastle game. But the average home gate is about 1600, if I'm right. 300 of those are away supporters. That leaves 1300 Stanley supporters;

After the season ticket holders, the question therefore is how you prioritise ticket sales without involving massive bureaucratic expense. It would seem to me that the best and most efficient way would be to allow every season ticket holder an additional ticket because most will invariably know someone who does turn up for most games but are not season ticket holders. OK - some will go to people who don't normally go to games, but that's the price to be paid.

That should take care of about 1000 tickets, leaving about another 2000 available, allowing for the stuff going to Newcastle. I'm quite sure that the balance of 300 hard core supporters should be able to obtain a ticket, providing the tickets do go on sale at a proper time and not something silly like 9am on a wednesday morning. I would also suggest you have 2 queues - people with local ID and possible evidence of attending prior games and the rest.

thats the point i made earlier on this thread and have had a pm off someone so i will do that for them as i know they do attend the games if im allowed more than my own ticket, and thats only right,i've been asked about ticket from work mates today who dont go to watch stanley only because it newcastle but they'l have to wait,we're a family club and look after our own first:)

My thinking on this is, about 800 Season Ticket holders, and about 120 Donny travellers, many making the trip were Season ticket holders. So less than 900 priority tickets, before the general sale.

I didn't go to Doncaster because I'm a big wuss, I am up at 5:30am and didn't fancy 4 or 5 hours sleep. I think the supporters at the Doncaster match deserve priority tickets, simply because their support lifts the players, and without it Doncaster could well be playing Newcastle. I have been to one or two away games in the past, and it's obvious the noise generated by the Ultra's does, in-fact lift the teams performance.

I'm just saying the hard core, Season Ticket holders and regular away supporters should get equal chance with cup tickets.

Agreed mick!! Ithink you'd find that the majority of who went to donny are season ticket holders anyway, jess and most of the ultras who go home and away are as far as im a were, theres over 360 st holders on the clayton end so everyone who attends home games knows some one who's a st holder so their shouldn't be a problem for thoses who arnt in getting a cup ticket :)

Chimer 12-08-2010 21:17

Re: Carling Cup -v- Newcastle!!

I'm an exile who normally only makes games down this way (I've been as far as MK) but am unsurprisingly hoping to be able to make one of my rare trips to the Crown for this one. If there is a ticket shortage I would happily concede priority to season ticket holders and people who went to Donny (if that's provable) but not so much to someone who makes a first ever appearance at the Macc game.

I think adult season ticket holders should be able to buy 2 before they go on open sale, students, youths and the kids on freebie STs just 1.

It would also be nice if OSC membership counted for something .... although as I didn't renew until today :( I wouldn't expect to benefit on this occasion.

But I'm not sure it will be that tight. I'm sure the toon will sell their allocation, but are disinterested Accringtonians and local neutrals really going to find a midweek 2nd Rd League Cup tie against a probably half-strength Newcastle that much more attractive than a 4th round Saturday FA Cup tie against Fulham ?

Anyway, I hope I can get two tickets ... in which case I'll see you there ... and that it sells out after I've got mine :)

Can't see any problem providing club distribute fairly, fer any regular, season ticket or not, like others have said approx 1300 regulars, probably 1500 fer the geordies, that leaves around 1700 fer the wannabees, those who went to donny who aren't season ticket holders should have NO problem? even at stanley.:D;)

I dont have a solution Im afraid (wish I did!), but I think its fair to say that given our gates, then home fans should all be able to aquire tickets without too much difficulty.

Dont forget that now we have an online booking facility, so buying tickets should be easier and quicker (I know Im tempting fate with this remark lol), so lets not panic too much eh :)

haha i didnt mean it like that ... ive been a season ticket holder for a few years and the season i dont get one we get a massive game! i just dont wanna lose out to some fans that arent even stanley fans, if you get me?

The prize money is awarded by the Football League. The winners of the League Cup won £100,000 and the runners-up won £50,000. The losing semi-finalists each took home £25,000.

If the match was at St James' Park the gate reciepts would be shared, there is more chance the attendance will be higher at the Crown Ground instead of St James'.

Having grown up in the days when Wembley was Newcastle's other home ground, I was ecstatic that the only other 'magic' name in football was coming to the Crown. Thinking it was to be on a Tuesday I was toying with logistics of getting 'up home' until remembering I had something on down south next day. Then ecstatic about sky coverage until realising I had a job to do in Southampton that night. Now I realise no one could give a rat's bottom at my plight but before jealousy destroys me just wanted to wish everyone a crackling night on the 25th.

Hope I'm wrong, but does anyone else think we'll struggle to sell out at those prices for a mid-week match?

On Sky as well... Was expecting a £20 adult admission but £15 concessions is a little steep. I just hope the admission prices don't put off too many of the Accringtonians who will want to come out of the woodwork!

I personally think it could price many an under-16 out of the game.

Imagine the atmosphere, the buzz, the occasion, could create many a life-time fan. Thus creating much needed revenue. But if the ticket is priced too high this will not happen. Think long-term Stanley.

Thankfully it is not a school night otherwise every school child would be watching it from the sofas.

£15 is steep to say it's on Sky. Expect normal midweek attendance.

You may say that £15 is steep for concessions, but I think the ground will still be full with all the wannabees coming for such a big match for Stanley, then won't be there for next home match.

Absolutely bob on! Something i thought we were getting right after several seasons ago i was bringing to the fore front youth support - stanleys next generation, now they are fluffing that up big style!!! Even steep for older concessions, many of them would prefer the warm pub & spend it on beer instead.

I expected adult prices which is fine but pricing out on concessions will back fire & lose out of capturing them later.

The suits have royally chuffed up with the admission prices this year. I shudder to think how many walk-ons we've lost because the cheap-local-club imperative has been compromised.

There's nothing we can do about it now though. The majority of home supporters will be the 'faithful one thousand'. The magnificent Ultras will do what they do behind the goals. Everyone else must do everything possible to make the Crown Ground a fortress for this game. The visiting players will hate it, and it's undeniable that our team has that extra 10% whenever the crowd's on top form.

Win or lose we shall be victorious, but to win would be ace. :D

Being proactive is the key to that I am sure everything will be geared up to making the day go as smoothly as possible for what is a major event for the Club and for the town itself.

There will be an attentative audience not just in the ground but also nationally & internationally

A real chance to move up a gear or two in every department and show ourselves in a great light on & off the pitch.

A Few ideas could be:
Fill the Programme with info on perhaps a major incentive for ticketing for the next home game or future home games to encourage people to come back

Use the P.A. System to do the same job

Coporate Side of things could also pick up on similar things for future hospitality & sponsorship incentives

For once we don't have to go looking for good publicity the world is coming to us:alright:

One of my friends who attends Stanley on a semi regular basis expressed an interest in coming to the game until I mentioned the ticket price. Their response was that it'd be cheaper to go watch Burnley at Morecambe instead!! And that way they'd see a new stadium and be able to watch the game in relative comfort! Says everything really :(

bdc 13-08-2010 19:57

Re: Carling Cup -v- Newcastle!!

To put the ticket prices into perspective, for a family of 4 it will cost £70 to watch a Carling Cup game! A family of 4 could go to the England game on Wednesday and watch the game at Wembley for £60. This is just another example of the management at the club making a bad commercial decision. How can a club of this size expect to gain an increase in fanbase when at the first opportunity it whacks prices up to a rip-off. This has really got me angry, at the end of the day the game is on sky so the club will receive a sizeable chunk of money for this, dont forget according to Mr Heys we will break-even this season and cup runs are a bonus! Why not use this as an opportunity to build links with the wider local community? For example offering a family ticket for £40 would have been a good way of giving something back to the fans. I think in truth the prices will end up scaring a lot of people off. I honestly think that the lower ticket price would have made the game a sell-out and therefore the club would make more money through the bar and club shop etc. I will pay to watch the Morecambe game instead!

Nobody's saying otherwise. However that, coupled with the concession price, will probably mean that daddy woodwork will go on his lonesome with his twenty squids instead of bringing mummy woodwork and the junior woodworks. BDC says it all really. It's just poorly thought out, as are the admission fees for league games, and they will find it out as the season goes on.

Whilst understanding the need fer revenue, i reckon this has been very badly considered, to me the object of increasing revenue, is to attract people to return who do not come regularly, plus theirs a mega need to put those in charge in a better light, these prices do neither of those things n are an opportunity lost, I.M.H.O. case of cutting off yer nose, to spite yer face.

its the 2nd round of the carling cup £20 seems a bit steep £15 concessions is very steep. The club does need to grasp these moments as a money spinner but I personally think its a rip off. Clubs usually drop prices for these games not hike them up. But fair play try and cash in. They will fill the ground for us for that price if needed.

Re: Carling Cup -v- Newcastle!!

I understand the argument on the concessions as others have said that it may just put some people of attending by putting it out of the reach of some families & individuals who otherwise may have attended given it is also being broadcast live.

In fact I have just finished reading a great book regarding the economics of football and one of several reasons a lot of clubs find themselves out of touch with their grass root levels of support is ticketing prices.

In fairness to balance that up our Season Ticket prices are amazing value

I on the other hand also appreciate that these games don't come along all the time and there is a chance to maximise income streams, these if they are used towards funding the squad may just make the difference to us mounting a challenge at the Top End of the Table?

Perhaps it is not to late if advertised maybe that if people keep hold of their stubs from this game that maybe a reduced admission maybe could be offered up for lower profile home game down the line?

Although myself and Pete will be coming to this game, our newly initiated season ticket holder daughter may not be. Given that she is only two still at this point, I am very reluctant to pay £15 for her to come. In fact you'd be lucky to get me to take her anywhere if its going to cost £15 to get her in!!!
