Health and Safety Issues
Just a quick gripe. Yesterday at the Woking game, and at previous games, I have had bottle tops removed from plastic bottles (which is the case at all grounds for safety reasons). However, imagine my horror to discover that cans of pop had been brought onto the ground (by persons working for ASFC) and worse still, a steward had a 2 or 3 litre bottle of pop in a carrier bag.
Its all very well informing the catering crews, who IMO do a decent job, the rules of the Football Association, but surely, the ground stewards should also be informed for future reference. I can imagine supporters who have cans etc removed from their person seeing something like that, there will be uproar and rightly so. P.S. I did point out the error of the stewards ways to Senior Stewards.   :( |
Re: Health and Safety Issues
Stewards are there as stewards and not as fans therefore dont come under the same rules. I dont know exactly why your not allowed to have tops on your bottles but whatever the reason I am guessing this doesn't apply to stewards.
Just my thoughts :) |
Re: Health and Safety Issues
I got bottletops up at York. its bloody mad.. If anyone wanted to throw them.. surely they could throw the bottle instead? lol.
|
Re: Health and Safety Issues
the reason is kipax is that people can refill the bottles with urine and put the bottle top on then use it as a missile
but if there isnt a top on by the time its reached the person who it being thrown at there will be nothing in the bottle weird i no but ............. |
Re: Health and Safety Issues
Then my point is validated. Surely this does not apply to stewards.
|
Re: Health and Safety Issues
I agree with you KIPAX
|
Re: Health and Safety Issues
i take my own tops with me hehehhehe I hate flat pop !!!!!!!!!!
|
Re: Health and Safety Issues
Being a veteran of many Donnington Rock Festivals, I can assure you that a bottle of urine isn't empty by the time it hits you on the head, so the bottle top issue seems a bit daft.
Added to that, Morecambe didn't remove the tops either. |
Re: Health and Safety Issues
You are not given bottle tops for safety reasons, yet what is to stop you throwing coins, which must people will have or taking your own bottle tops in and i know one or two take their own bottles in and nothing is done to stop this.

Re: Health and Safety Issues
It's all a stupid idea really but for heaven's sake it's a bottle of pop if you didnt want to drink it you wouldnt buy it.........come on...
|
Re: Health and Safety Issues
but you may not want to drink it all at once and putting a top on not only prevents it going flat it also stops nasty things from falling into it. Wasps being a good example. We caught half a dozen wasps in a coke bottle one day recently.
|
Re: Health and Safety Issues
Not only can you use coins etc to caiuse injury, but at some grounds allow you to keep the tops if the bottles. Whilst i admit that if you buy it you are going to want it, but i like to have it to drink throughout the game aand i don't like flat pop.
|
Re: Health and Safety Issues
well if your not thirsty then dont buy it............
I just can't see what all the fuss is about |
Re: Health and Safety Issues
I am not saying i am not thrust but i prefer to not to drink it all at once and don'yt like falt pop
|
Re: Health and Safety Issues
I posted at the same time as you Rishton and never got time to read your post before I posted......

Re: Health and Safety Issues
I think what Outback Ossy's point was, shouldn't the Stewards set an example and not do what the supporters are not allowed to do.

Re: Health and Safety Issues
KIPAX - As a ground safety steward at the JJB, can I assure you that Stewards are not allowed bottle tops as well as fans, that is the rules of the Football Association. I agree with most of the points that it does seem silly, considering you buy a bottle of pop, but let me assure you, if it hits you when full whether of pop or some other liquid, it can do damage. The rules apply to all F.A. grounds, just seems that the word hasn't got around to all of them yet. Strictly speaking, there should be a list at each turnstile stating what cannot be brought onto a football ground, this includes things such as knives, glass bottles, air horns (yes I know that they are used at I.E.S.), cans of pop are not allowed either and also beer is not allowed to be drunk whilst in sight of the pitch, unless in a sponsors lounge. The list goes on and is quite long.
As Jeff says, the point is, the stewards should be setting an example for all supporters to create a safe and harmonious atmosphere. It was only a little gripe, and I have to say that on the whole, they do an excellent job. |

Re: Health and Safety Issues
If the fans are not alllowed bottles tops etc the stewrds should be setting an example, but there appears to be nothing in place to stop you bring in your own bottle tops, and there is still some grounds in the conference which allow you to have the tops (even at stanley i have had bottles of pops from the refreshment stands this season andf they have given them to me with the top on, and they have been at league games)

Re: Health and Safety Issues
Hehehehehe - you're not wrong there Tin Mon
The whole issue concerning what one can take onto the terraces etc. is a petty one. Fair enough - knives and suchlike should be banned - but what about newspapers? Let me assure you that rolled up and folded in half (Millwall Brick) they can make quite a weapon. If someone wanted to hurt someone at a match then they will. What about the tops of flasks? Are they confiscated? Lets face it - full up or not they would pack a punch. |
Re: Health and Safety Issues
This is all pointless because wat ever we say we r not going to get through to the FA that the bottle tops rule is pointless. like said before if somebody wanted to hurt somebody then they could easily bring a knife or any other weapon to the game. becasue for a fact i have never been searched for weapons at any gound. so if somebody ever wanted to hurt someone it could still happen.
But hopefully at stanley it will never happen!!! |
Re: Health and Safety Issues
I agree that if somebody wanted to hurt somebody they could do it, as i cannot remember being searched at a football ground for a very long time,
