Cancer Awareness Day at Rotherham game
 
I urge all you macho men to spare a few minutes with the health advisors who will be around before the Rotherham match. Nobble it at an early stage. Sadly, it is too late for me after ignoring early signs. If just one of you reading this gets a check up and avoids the disease getting a grip that would be the best result of the day for me.:)

Gutted to hear that; I hope you are fighting back and getting the treatment, of my immediate Accrington family I have lost an Aunty; Granddad and a Sister to this disease, take the time and get checked.
It’s always worth copping a feel in the bath or when you wake up in the morning; male or female use your hands as well as your head.

Cheers, Doug. Copping a feel in the bath is Ok, but won't reveal prostate cancer. After a biopsy 2 years ago I underwent 8 weeks of daily radiotherapy at Preston, followed by hormone therapy for 12 months. I have now had to go back on the hormones as a scan showed it has metatised into the bones. TBH, I can't really believe the diagnosis. In general I feel fine apart from a little shortness of breath when running up the stairs, but Hey, - at 66 what do you expect anyway? I don't know about fighting it, but I am certainly living a very full and active life. I wondered about parading all this in public but decided the more awareness about the disease the better. Don't let anybody be shy about visiting your GP and letting him have a different feel.:D It could save your life!

I totally agree Redraine, never be frightened of going to your doctor, even if it turns out to be nothing serious, its better to be safe than sorry. Its a known fact that men are notoriously afraid of visiting the doctor with "men's problems" don't be, it could save your life

Really sorry to hear your news, I had no idea.

Well said about going to your Docs even if you think its something and nothing, your better going and them telling you its nothing. We pay for the doctors to be there so lets make use of them. Thats what they are there for.

And as for making it more aware then the more publicity that the goverment can give to cancer the better. Getting the information boards to the games is a great idea. I had a read up on the stand they had in the clayton end at half time and it was quite nice to see others (of all ages) reading up as well.

I do think that the clubs should activily look at making the public and fans more aware. Any publicity is better than none.

I wasn’t going to mention this but thought i would now :

I would advise anybody would even thinks that they might of "found" something to get medical help as soon as possible. Forget "oh i cant miss a day off work” or “i don’t have the time” get to the doctors they don’t bite, they are there to help.

I went a 2 years ago after finding something and after thinking that “i didn’t want to make a fuss” i went and got checked out. The Doctor was extremely friendly,helpful and professional and understood totally that men generally don’t like to talk about this kind of stuff.

Very Luckily for me, after tests / scan i was fine but i couldn’t stress enough that even if you think its nothing get in there and get checked out.

Absolutely…….good place to start. Any lumps or bumps get them felt. Changes in bowel habits is also worth a chat. You’ll live a little longer….bottom line.

i went once to have my nuts jiggled, i was fair impressed at the nurse who talked me through the process. she was mid-twenties, blonde hair, firm heaving bosom etc.

I was fair disappointed at the little chinese chappie who came out to apply the gel though ...

That is weird because thats what happened to me. lovely looking blonde lady at Blackburn hospital then this little chinese dude turns u. I wasnt happy. Had clean undies on and everything !!
