That's half time and a draw is a relatively fair reflection of what we've seen for me.

Gornell has posed the Morecambe defence plenty of problems but Stanley haven't had too many chances.

Lots of needle around - it looks like Craney and McCready want to have a fight more than play football so far!!!

Paul Mullin replaced by Mark Duffy for the home team. It's odd seeing him play against Stanley.

Crane off and Putterill on.

Ian roundly booed by the Morecambe fans

Dan 01-01-2011 15:39

Re: Morecambe thread

80: great chance for Stanley.

Putterill burst away down the right before crossing low for Gornell, who turned and shot low, only to see Roche turn it round the post.

From the resulting corner, Ryan saw a drive blocked and it fell to Jacobson outside the box. He struck it sweetly and Roche watched. It went wide.

Not too sure about that. Morecambe were looking the more likely to score until Coley brought Putterill on. I like Ray - he's so direct and aggressive and puts the wind up defenders. He made a big difference. I can't help feeling a bit sorry for the Shrimps fans - the've played pretty well against us recently but we seem to have the Indian sign over them and long may it continue. However they totally failed to get behind their team, so I suppose they got their just deserts.

Well its funny you should say that, we were having a conversation and come to an agreement that it didn't seem the same saying that as it does c'mon you reds, anyway a few seconds later we lost possession and someone called them black B*******, just a few seconds later Ryan hit the back of the net, certainly worked for us :D

Pendle Red 01-01-2011 18:42

Re: Morecambe thread

Pretty much the same observation as Redraine, once Putterill came on for Craney there seemed to be a desire to carry the fight to Morecambe after we had been penned in for most of the second half whether Razor has a point to prove not sure but it certainly worked as an inspired substitution.

Not sure if Craney also had the same effect with Jimmy Ryan as well as things tended to try to go through Craney rather than Ryan which seemed to deter the foothold Jimmy normally has on games?

But a cracking result that puts a bit of daylight between us and the Clubs at the bottom and means looking upwards instead of downwards.

But this is such a tight league a run of three or four wins and we could be right back in the thick of things.

I did miss the Old Christie Park which had a more football feel to it to me than the Globe, I am sure from a commercial point of view it makes sense but from a fans point of view I am not sure.....

DAV007 01-01-2011 19:03

Re: Morecambe thread

first half we ran the game
Craney was very impressive and orecambe couldnt deal with him as was Ryan with Gornell providing plenty of movement up front, McConville also played well as a wide outlet.

2nd half Morecambe started to press us and we where uncomfortable under the high pressure with many wayward balls.
They really should have scored with one of their strikers clean through blazing over the bar.

A decent game despite the weather turning cold and the lack of pies for sale.

You were lucky. Mine was cold around the crust but scalding hot inside! Disagree with you re. McConville though. Much better options on the bench IMHO.

Very perceptive point, P.R, with which I totally agree. I was wondering why Jimmy was having a quiet game by his standards until the penny dropped. One of Coley's better substitutions, if a little late in the day.

Outback Ozzy 01-01-2011 19:48

Re: Morecambe thread

Maybe it is time to rephrase the Ian Craney song and substitute the words Ian Craney with Jimmy Ryan - it was a cracker.
Got to say, for a new ground, it lacks soul purely and simply because it is one sided i.e. one main stand and then opposite is a low wall. The acoustics were rubbish.
The game itself seemed to be too one sided with Stanley sitting back and defending for long periods. Would like to see the stats. However, at the end of the day, it is about the team who sticks the ball in the net the most and Stanley did that today. Got to agree with others, although Ian Craney played well for most parts, Stanley impetus was far better when Ray Putterill came on. Lets all hope that he, Parkinson and others who are out of contract have now re-signed.

new red 01-01-2011 20:00

Re: Morecambe thread

Fantastic result an away win at last. Jimmy and Phil best players by far. Tremendous strike. Thought Putterill showed much more determination than Craney and should have started and didnt feel Jacobsen had his best. Thought Mc Conville was weak and got out muscled time and time again. But if we can win with players certainly not at there best just maybe we can climb up that league. Bring on the next one. Well done stanley and the Ultras best supporters in the league did stanley proud.

Re: Morecambe thread

Moving phil back to cb,deano movin to rb and jacobson lb seemed to work on the day,but they played 3-5-2 which seemed to pin us back 4 periods, should have worked the channels more, but overall acci did a job on them, Phil was back 2 his best in my opinion

Strange one that. Seems to have carried the can for the failings of the back four in the sequence of poor results earlier in the season. Following the sending off at Bury, he played once at Chesterfield. Since then, can't even get on the bench.

Anyway, Another marvellous penalty from the master that is Phil Edwards, a rather sloppy equaliser, and a magnificent strike from our best midfield player (please stay Jimmy).
The Globe arena has obviously taken over from Christie park, as Morecambe's bogey ground when playing Stanley, long may it continue.

A big win, and one that we needed badly.
