One of them's predicting a 3-1 Stanley win with Bavs scoring an own goal! :)

If anyone's able to pick it up it should be on BBC Shropshire on 96FM. Their commentators are as biased as Dan so usually good for a laugh.

Re: Shrewsbury

Howdoo all
Two changes from Stanley. Both enforced.
Obviously Long is out, Hessey comes in for him and Dean Winnard is ill. He's replaced by Peter Murphy.

Stanley look like this: Bav, Murphy, Edwards, Hessey, Jacobson, Barnett, Procter, Ryan, Putterill, McConville, Gornell

Sadly, no. I'm listening to BBC Shropshire live commentary but I'm planning to be up for the Hereford match. I've already suffered them playing the milk advert twice!

BBC are full of praise for the Ultras who are sounding in good form. They say it's more like Milan or Turin than East lancashire. And it's 'better than Barnet'! :)

which end are we attacking Dan ? - and do the lads have a favourite end to attack ?

Dan 18-01-2011 19:25

Re: Shrewsbury

The lads are attacking the Clayton End, where the Ultras are in fine voice. There aren't really any superstitions about which way to kick. The deciding factor might be the pitch, which is worse at the Clayton End of the ground than the Coppice End.

It's been pretty uneventful so far. 38 gone. Would I take a boring game and winning 1-0? Course I would!!!

shakermaker 18-01-2011 21:20

Re: Shrewsbury

At 1-1 I thought the third goal of the game was going to be pivotal to tonight's result and it was the Shrews who got it (though it did look ten country miles offside!). However that said we were ultimately punished for our own failures. We failed to replace Kevin Long's height, we failed to attack balls put into the box, and we failed to adapt our game for the terrible pitch conditions. Their 'keeper was fantastic and if he hadn't been in goal, perhaps we'd have grabbed an all important second goal. However with lacklustre performances from McConville and Putterill in particular, our attack was not at full strength.

Man of the match - the lionhearted Sean Hessey. Fantastic performance.

Villain - the ref. Mr Sargison needs to wake up and realise that even battles of games can be fair battles and should be allowed to be played! Infuriatingly whistle-happy.

smudgie 18-01-2011 21:21

Re: Shrewsbury

Well massively poor performance, probably our worst of the season for me.

Granted the ref was very poor but it didnt hide from the fact we were garbage.

Proccy???? What actually did he do all game??? Outmuscled, out played, and was frankly awful for me tonight. How he stayed on the pitch instead of putterill is beyond me.

Murphy??? Ok so Winnard was ill but why?? We have Leam and Bateson (WHO!!!??) who are both superior players at right back in my and alot of others opinion. We have seen it before, he is NOT a Right Back, and is simply not quick enough, clumsy and looked out of his depth again and again. Soon as the Shrews cottonned onto this almost every attack came down that side.

Only positives were Gornell scoring another, and Jimmy Ryan run himself into the ground, again. Oh and Rory Boulding looked fresh for a whole 5 minutes at the end and it was only a great save that stopped him from scoring a screamer. WHY wait so late to change it???

Oh well roll on Saturday !!!

Thought Hessey was a man mountain at times, but my word how we missed Long at the back.

Agree with everything apart from your first sentence as I thought our play up to the box was pretty good. I also think you are being unfair to Proccy, who I thought gave his usual battling performance.

Re: Shrewsbury

I think a bit of credit has to go Salop, they came to do a job which they did by getting bodies behind the ball and countering quickly

Helped by some funny refereeing desicions it was a classic smash & grab

As others have said we played some nicey nicey football without the end product

Dissapointing performance probably not helped by a very heavy pitch but it's the same for both sides.

Agree about Hessey looking the part seamlessey slotting back into the back four but too many others of the pace I am afraid

Ah well Saturday beckons and the Bulls

new red 19-01-2011 05:54

Re: Shrewsbury

Have to agree with Smudgie. Should have been Bateson instead of Winnard tonight. No pride, no passion and a lack of muscle in all departments except for Hessey and Edwards tonight. If its a squad lets have a shuffle and give Boulding Joyce etc a chance. Some players look complacent knowing they will be in the starting 11 week in week out IMHO.

I think Sean has improved massively this season mate, you only have to look at his goals column to see that.

But I believe Proccy & Murph where the main culprits last night.

Re: Shrewsbury

Agree and to be honest Murphy didnt play well in his last start either probably do him good to get more experience, maybe go out on loan for a while and gain confidence, too many balls just hoofed out of play for my liking. If Long is going to be out we need a replacement fast.

But Sean Hessey was Long's replacement and, to judge by the reports, had a great game. The problem was at full back. What on earth has Jonny Bateson done wrong?

To be fair to Pete, the problems weren't isolated to the full back area, even though his performance was sloppy. Sean Hessey did indeed replace Long with an admirable performance, but we failed to replace the aerial aspect that Long gave us. Dare I say, if Andy Owens was in the side, I don't think we'd have conceded the first goal.

Re: Shrewsbury

It is all about opinions, but, I think that we had a good first half - first 30mins especially - but, for all the possession, we did not threaten their goal!!

Proccy had a good game first half and as always, did all the nasty stuff well - some very good, hard tackling!

The ball went out from their player for the corner, second goal was a dodgy offside/active/inactive type thing...

The one thing that The Shrews did well - that we cannot do - is move the ball quickly and directly, as they did for their third!!

We lack a goal scorer, but we are not a bad team and we are playing some nice stuff!!

Roll on The Bulls :)

Agreed, but what a corner it was. Slung in with great pace with a low trajectory. When one of those is met with any sort of decent contact the defenders have a job on to stop 'em going in. Unlike most of ours.:(

Re: Shrewsbury

Think valairian seemed to sum up the game,it was a real smash and grab performance from them,
In my opinion it was a typical tuesday night game following a hard away game the previous saturday.
It took a while for Acci to get going, got a break with a deflected goal and when your at your most vunerable,10 mins after scoring, they switched off at a corner.
Tired legs then seemed to kick in,and at 1-1,it was obvious razor and sean were struggling to get there second wind, and the next goal would be the killer, and so it proved.
No one has mentioned Barnett, who I thought had another top game along with Jimmy.
Hesseys passion and desire shone thro, but height is still needed at this level
