If anyone's able to pick it up it should be on BBC Shropshire on 96FM. Their commentators are as biased as Dan so usually good for a laugh. |
Re: Shrewsbury
You at the game tonight Mike ?:)
|
Re: Shrewsbury
Howdoo all
Two changes from Stanley. Both enforced. Obviously Long is out, Hessey comes in for him and Dean Winnard is ill. He's replaced by Peter Murphy. Stanley look like this: Bav, Murphy, Edwards, Hessey, Jacobson, Barnett, Procter, Ryan, Putterill, McConville, Gornell |

Re: Shrewsbury
Evening all ready for a win ? :) Sky sports News has a media player thingy & they do like a conference call on all the games
|
Re: Shrewsbury
They must have paid the relevant fee, you can get the match radio commentary on the internet.
|
Re: Shrewsbury
OOps, wrong game!!!
|
Re: Shrewsbury
8 mins gone - so far, so dull. Neither keeper troubled. Pitch not great!
|
Re: Shrewsbury
BBC are full of praise for the Ultras who are sounding in good form. They say it's more like Milan or Turin than East lancashire. And it's 'better than Barnet'! :)
|
Re: Shrewsbury
9: first shot in anger - Gornell lays it off to McConville who shoots over the top into the Ultras
|
Re: Shrewsbury

Re: Shrewsbury
20 - Shrews chance - Collins crosses from the right and Wright meets it at the back post, but lobs it over
|
Re: Shrewsbury
Evening chaps n chapesses!...............On babysitting duty this eve so sat here watching the Man City game (1-1) and looking in on here for our Dan's updates............c'mon the reds!!
Also in contact via phone with Kiwi............he says its 8am and 32deg out there, not that we are jealous lol. |
Re: Shrewsbury
23: McConville dispossesses a defender but can only curl his shot wide
|
Re: Shrewsbury
32: Shrewsbury's Leslie drills in a low free kick, which is deflected behind for a corner
|
Re: Shrewsbury
which end are we attacking Dan ? - and do the lads have a favourite end to attack ?
|
Re: Shrewsbury
The lads are attacking the Clayton End, where the Ultras are in fine voice. There aren't really any superstitions about which way to kick. The deciding factor might be the pitch, which is worse at the Clayton End of the ground than the Coppice End.
It's been pretty uneventful so far. 38 gone. Would I take a boring game and winning 1-0? Course I would!!! |
Re: Shrewsbury
Jimmy Ryan booked

Re: Shrewsbury
43: best chance so far - Procter flicks the ball to Gornell, who runs towards goal, shooting low only for Ben Smith to make a save low to his right

Re: Shrewsbury
That's half time
|
Re: Shrewsbury

|
Re: Shrewsbury

|
Re: Shrewsbury
On, Stanley On!.....
|
Re: Shrewsbury
49: Goal for Shrewsbury - corner from the right, headed in by James Collins 1-1
|
Re: Shrewsbury
Not so well done ! :o
|
Re: Shrewsbury
52: let off for Stanley - Leslie crosses from the right and Tom Bradshaw meets it at the near post. Fortunately, he's got a head like a sheriff's badge and it flies into the Ultras
|
Re: Shrewsbury
Oh dear!!
|
Re: Shrewsbury
was just about to look at the league table - shudav remembered chickencounters never prosper ! - not at Accrington at any rate.
|
Re: Shrewsbury
What's occuring, anyone?
|
Re: Shrewsbury
62: Murphy crosses from the right and it evades everyone but Jimmy Ryan at the back post. The midfielder guides his effort wide though
|
Re: Shrewsbury
Just had a look at the stats, Stanley are shading it with possesion, but the shrews are having more shots on target, added to the fact they're laying about themselves a bit with the boot ! fouls 4-10.
|
Re: Shrewsbury
Sod it, got calls to make. Come On, Stanley.
|
Re: Shrewsbury
1-2. Oh dear! Collins again.
|
Re: Shrewsbury
70: It's 2-1 to Shrewsbury - Collins again racing through and beating the offside trap to dink over Dunbavin
|
Re: Shrewsbury
McConville off, Parkinson on
Putterill off, Richardson on |
Re: Shrewsbury
She-ite 2-1 what's going on ?
|
Re: Shrewsbury
73: Gornell denied by a good save by Smith - crossed into the striker who shoots first time, but Smith pushes it away
|
Re: Shrewsbury
The usual!!!
|
Re: Shrewsbury
79: Superb long range free kick from Ryan repelled by Smith
|
Re: Shrewsbury
82: GAME OVER - Shrewsbury break down the right and find Mark Wright on the edge of the area. The wideman fires it in to make it 3-1 to the visitors
|
Re: Shrewsbury
1 - 3 Unreal, what are they playing at ? Probably would've been better had it been rained off :(
|
Re: Shrewsbury
Edwards replaced by Boulding
|
Re: Shrewsbury
all gone horribly wrong can't imagine Coley being the happiest bunny tonight
|
Re: Shrewsbury
4 minutes added
|
Re: Shrewsbury
90: Rory Boulding has a superb long range strike tipped onto the bar by the keeper. Not Stanley's night.
|
Re: Shrewsbury
Par for the course, that's it I'm away ! Thanks Dan !
|
Re: Shrewsbury
And now he's denied at the near post by Smith
But that's it. 3-1 to Shrewsbury |
Re: Shrewsbury
Hmm, that didnt go to plan then!!.............Thanks Dan :)
|
Re: Shrewsbury
Thanks, Dan
|
Re: Shrewsbury
No surprises there then!!
|
Re: Shrewsbury
heyho, life of a Stanleyfan eh ! - thanks Dan. Next up an improving Hereford and a particular favorite of mine, Stuart Fleetwood. Pity we hadn't resources to give him longer to settle with us.
|
Re: Shrewsbury
I am sure the Ref had a blue shirt under his black one .
|
Re: Shrewsbury
At 1-1 I thought the third goal of the game was going to be pivotal to tonight's result and it was the Shrews who got it (though it did look ten country miles offside!). However that said we were ultimately punished for our own failures. We failed to replace Kevin Long's height, we failed to attack balls put into the box, and we failed to adapt our game for the terrible pitch conditions. Their 'keeper was fantastic and if he hadn't been in goal, perhaps we'd have grabbed an all important second goal. However with lacklustre performances from McConville and Putterill in particular, our attack was not at full strength.
Man of the match - the lionhearted Sean Hessey. Fantastic performance. Villain - the ref. Mr Sargison needs to wake up and realise that even battles of games can be fair battles and should be allowed to be played! Infuriatingly whistle-happy. |
Re: Shrewsbury
Well massively poor performance, probably our worst of the season for me.
Granted the ref was very poor but it didnt hide from the fact we were garbage. Proccy???? What actually did he do all game??? Outmuscled, out played, and was frankly awful for me tonight. How he stayed on the pitch instead of putterill is beyond me. Murphy??? Ok so Winnard was ill but why?? We have Leam and Bateson (WHO!!!??) who are both superior players at right back in my and alot of others opinion. We have seen it before, he is NOT a Right Back, and is simply not quick enough, clumsy and looked out of his depth again and again. Soon as the Shrews cottonned onto this almost every attack came down that side. Only positives were Gornell scoring another, and Jimmy Ryan run himself into the ground, again. Oh and Rory Boulding looked fresh for a whole 5 minutes at the end and it was only a great save that stopped him from scoring a screamer. WHY wait so late to change it??? Oh well roll on Saturday !!! |
Re: Shrewsbury
Some great points shaker.
Thought Hessey was a man mountain at times, but my word how we missed Long at the back. |

Re: Shrewsbury
I think a bit of credit has to go Salop, they came to do a job which they did by getting bodies behind the ball and countering quickly
Helped by some funny refereeing desicions it was a classic smash & grab As others have said we played some nicey nicey football without the end product Dissapointing performance probably not helped by a very heavy pitch but it's the same for both sides. Agree about Hessey looking the part seamlessey slotting back into the back four but too many others of the pace I am afraid Ah well Saturday beckons and the Bulls |
Re: Shrewsbury
Have to agree with Smudgie. Should have been Bateson instead of Winnard tonight. No pride, no passion and a lack of muscle in all departments except for Hessey and Edwards tonight. If its a squad lets have a shuffle and give Boulding Joyce etc a chance. Some players look complacent knowing they will be in the starting 11 week in week out IMHO.

Re: Shrewsbury
Hi all
A bit more reaction from the game here. The post match thoughts of Joe Jacobson YouTube - 19 01 jacobson shrewsbury reaction My thanks to Callum and Jordan for providing this content. I suspect we may need a better camera though! |

I think Sean has improved massively this season mate, you only have to look at his goals column to see that. But I believe Proccy & Murph where the main culprits last night. |
Re: Shrewsbury
Agree and to be honest Murphy didnt play well in his last start either probably do him good to get more experience, maybe go out on loan for a while and gain confidence, too many balls just hoofed out of play for my liking. If Long is going to be out we need a replacement fast.
|
Re: Shrewsbury
Long has gone mate.
Cracked a bone in his foot :( |
Re: Shrewsbury
We deffo need someone else cos Murphy isnt the answer. With Experience preferably.

Re: Shrewsbury
It is all about opinions, but, I think that we had a good first half - first 30mins especially - but, for all the possession, we did not threaten their goal!!
Proccy had a good game first half and as always, did all the nasty stuff well - some very good, hard tackling! The ball went out from their player for the corner, second goal was a dodgy offside/active/inactive type thing...  The one thing that The Shrews did well - that we cannot do - is move the ball quickly and directly, as they did for their third!! We lack a goal scorer, but we are not a bad team and we are playing some nice stuff!! Roll on The Bulls :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) |

Re: Shrewsbury
Think valairian seemed to sum up the game,it was a real smash and grab performance from them,
In my opinion it was a typical tuesday night game following a hard away game the previous saturday. It took a while for Acci to get going, got a break with a deflected goal and when your at your most vunerable,10 mins after scoring, they switched off at a corner. Tired legs then seemed to kick in,and at 1-1,it was obvious razor and sean were struggling to get there second wind, and the next goal would be the killer, and so it proved. No one has mentioned Barnett, who I thought had another top game along with Jimmy. Hesseys passion and desire shone thro, but height is still needed at this level |
