Time to go 2 up front
Rory Boulding posed more of a threat to the Shrew's goal during the few minutes he was allowed on the pitch than a certain player in the starting 11 whose name I can't bring myself to mention. Those who were there tonight will know who I mean. For all our great football we don't get enough shots on target, but Rory has always impressed me as a guy who will work the goalie, and he again looked lively tonight. Surely it's time to give him a start on Saturday?

Re: Time to go 2 up front
He would stand more chance of starting if he had an Uncle Jimmy on the coaching staff!!!;)

Re: Time to go 2 up front
Some fair points Redraine but I don't think we can go two up front unless we go three at the back and that would mean losing the full-back aspect to our game which is a big plus for us.
I do think though that later in games when we need to go more direct we should bring on Andy Owens up front. So often our profligacy is down to a lack of a physical presence in the box. Sometimes we need to just get uglier. |

Re: Time to go 2 up front
We'd get overrun in midfield and our small defence would have no protection. As we saw so many times last season with a 4-4-2, there were gaping holes down the middle of the park. It only got better when we started to plug the gap with Peter Murphy/Johnny Flynn towards the end of the season.

Completely agree Redraine. Still can't believe that decision.

Re: Time to go 2 up front
who actually understands that bloody law......certainly not refs or linos lets get back to basics if hes off hes off
|
Re: Time to go 2 up front
Another point about the man in question is why does he have to take every set piece and all he does every time is float it in jimmy and Charlie are both good set piece takers who can float it and whip it in as the did once he had gone off just an idea
|
Re: Time to go 2 up front
I tend to agree 4-4-2 has to be a viable option at times

Re: Time to go 2 up front
Rory Bouldings not the answer, hes lazy , cant pass and is greedy. Hes never been a success anywhere and i dont think he can be a success at stanley unless we shove him somewhere on loan for the rest of the season and gets his confidence up somewhere else. Same with Parkinson, i dont rate him at all and i think players like that bring our squad down. We lost two vital players last season, bobby and symes. We havent replaced them.
|
Re: Time to go 2 up front
I think it was always going to be difficult replacing Symes, Grant & Kee who as we all know were superb for us last season.
I think to label Boulding as that is abit unfair after his handful off appearances. Whenever ive seen him he has looked decent, and dont forget that equaliser against Wycombe when we were dead and buried. I think its a difficult thing to change a formation which has had relative success. Lets not forgot last night 2 of our first choice defenders where out, just look at Man U without Rio & Vidic, obviously 2 different levels but the concept is the same. Id keep the same formation BUT if its not working after an hour, then CHANGE IT and give Boulding more than 5 mins here & there and dont wait for the inevitable opposition goal. |
Re: Time to go 2 up front
At least Rory showed some determination last night which is more than the other forwards. Agree dont rate Parky either he just ran around and made no impact whatsoever. Ive read the write ups and they dont reflect the game I watched. Crap performance however you write it up. And there's one reason 'you know who' takes all the corners and free kicks and we all know what it is. Jimmy should be on free kicks with his power.

Totally agree Redraine

Re: Time to go 2 up front
Whats up with Turner? Thought he was fit now and he wasnt on bench again last night. I havent seen him start a game this season.

Re: Time to go 2 up front
I couldn't go last night due to working late, so I couldn't possibly comment on last night's performance....However.
Looking at the statistics, so far out of 24 league games played, we've failed to score on 7 occasions (29%), scored only once on 7 more, hit 2 goals on 7 more occasions and hit 3 goals or more on only 3 occasions (12.5%) If you look at it realistically, that's over half the games we play (58%) mean that we either only hit the net only once or not at all. That to me, more or less explains why we've only won the seven games.:( I'm not a fan of the current ploy of playing 1 up top on his own when we're at home. It's all well and good when playing away from the Crown and it may well make us harder to break down. If you look at the number of strikers on the books, admittedly we're sadly lacking in that department, with only three ( recognised ) strikers.I said it earlier this season, if we lost Gornell to injury (worst case scenario and perish the thought that actually happens ) where would the goals come from???? The back ups (Boulding and Lindfield) are relatively untried!!! I'm struggling to think of exactly how many times ( if indeed at all!! ) we've actually played two up front from the start ??? And as far as McConville goes, In my opinion, he can go missing at times during games and the majority of his set pieces (corners etc) are awful. I've lost count of the number of corners that haven't even beaten the man on the near post, a truly cardinal sin and a fundemental basic  So for me at least, playing two up front would certainly help improve the goals scored / chances converted problem. Its blatantly obvious that we need another striker on board (or even two, if possible !! ) If that means getting shut of one or two fringe players to accomodate wages wise, then so be it !!:o |

Parky is past it, last night he did nothing except run around in circles. He doesnt have quality and is just an average player! At least Putterill has something about his game!! He has nifty tricks and runs at defenders, trys things , has a good shot on him. All things parky doesnt have. He came on last night and looked like he didnt want to get involved in the game. If you think thats the class of players (them two) to challenge in this league then i think its you who need to wake up and smell the coffee. Both players dont improve our side like such players as ; Edwards, Winnard, Jacobson, Ryan, Turner and Gornell. They all have something about them and class that can challenge in this league unlike players such as Rory And Parky. |
Re: Time to go 2 up front
Sorry dont agree at all.

Re: Time to go 2 up front
Thats very strange regarding redraines comments on Boulding. When he came against Cheltenham i thought the same !!!!
Its obvious hes not a one up front type of striker, but he looks comfortable on the ball and seems to have a football brain. He may be a better wide midfielder who can attack the far post, these days wide men dont need blistering pace(although it helps) and with a bit of confidence could be a goal scoring midfielder |
Re: Time to go 2 up front
Just had a terrible thought and i hope i am miles off the mark.
At the Shrewsbury game i was sat near a scout from Carlisle who i know and was wondering who he had come to watch. I have just realised Carlisle have just sold Gary Madine to Sheff Wed who is the same age and a clone of Terry Gornall. A team mate of Terrys at Tranmere is playing there (Craig curran). As I said ,I hope I am talking bo---cks as this team has so much potential its frightening |

They're inscrutable, if nothing else, those scouts. They usually tell you they're watching someone in the opposing team.

Re: Time to go 2 up front
He was at Blackburn before he went to Carlisle, remember him getting Joe Garner to go (£200k) and they sold him 9 months later for 1.2 million !.
He was coaching through the period when Jimmy Ryan and co were coming thro the liverpool ranks so technically he maybe doing reports on them all (which most clubs do). I think Gornell would Affect Acci the most tho,who would replace him ???, Then again I think all the players have 100% faith and trust in what the management are trying to build and there doesnt seem to be any "big time" players in the squad --- so i am not as twitchy as i was this morning lol |

Greetings from Livingston.
Just having a look at your forum to see what you guys thought of Boulding. Have to say I agree completely with fcstanley's post. "Rory Bouldings not the answer, hes lazy , cant pass and is greedy." striker my arse. Would you be interested in swapping him back, for say a scarf or a badge? |
