Was it a delibarate plan to make everybody stand according to hair length, those at the front with long hair and ... well work it out yourselves :D

Re: ASSF Chair accepted onto board of directors

Don't understand why this is such a big deal...nothing's changed...O'Neill and Whalley are still there. Seems to me that the club have noticed there's a bit of unrest from the proletariat and decided to make a token, but meaningless, gesture to try to quell it.

I'm sure Peter is a very able bloke, but in all honesty what difference can he make to the present farcical situation that we're in?

maccawozzagod 28-01-2011 21:10

Re: ASSF Chair accepted onto board of directors

i think, Wynonie, that the elction of Peter onto the board will first of all allow more voice of reason onto it and secondly will allow further transparency, one hopes.

Ilyas too is on the board but we still haven't had the hoped for transparency, but at least we've now got one more of the good guys on the big table.

Congratulations Peter

Purely guesswork but I think the introduction of a locally based director who will be more involved on a regular basis may just move things closer to being resolved.

Re: ASSF Chair accepted onto board of directors

Sorry, lads, but I don't agree. Do you really think those at the top would agree to any sort of move that would lead to more transparency or to a shift in the power base?

Just a few scraps thrown to the masses, in my opinion.

Re: ASSF Chair accepted onto board of directors

Congratulations Peter. Expectations will be high; so I sincerely wish you a tremendous amount of luck in your new role. For Stanley and all of us, the supporters.

Was it not part of the original approach from Ilyas for a member of the ASSF to sit on the board in return for the financial support he had given? I certainly remember it being a suggestion that we all backed, especially given the promise of greater transparency. I would also suspect that this is a move backed by Ilyas to ensure that eyes and hears are present in his absence.

All in all not a bad move but uncomfortably I tend to agree with Mr Harris; it won’t actually change anything. It will be interesting to see if the much promised transparency transpires as a result of this move. Still it is a move forward and any move forward can only be positive.

I will ask again; how do you join the ASSF; is there a website may I ask?

Purely cosmetic, we all know where the real power lies at the moment and this won't make an iota of difference. Democracy and transparency is not the way this lot operate, so don't get your hopes too high!

Where is Mr Khan these days? Does anyone know?

Couldn't blame him for buggering off to be honest! Should be rolling out a red carpet out with fireworks for the guy. We`d be one of the richest clubs in the football league and STABLE which is what we all just want.

Could do with some info from Mr Khan of what hes doing? Has he given up?

We need investment and this bunch of crazy people at our club are killing it. Its as bad as the service of the so called ' lounge ' when sponsoring the match the other day against Shrewsbury!

The only good thing about the past year i think regards to behind the scenes at the club is Lew in the clubshop! You have to say that shop looks professional as anything and looks superb! Lot of effort has gone into sales in the shop and online.

Someone thing needs to be done, even im getting fed up!

HOPEFULLY this guy peter can get info from the secrets of the board meetings to us fans and tell us what the crack is with things and whats been said. Also we could also maybe make a thread to give questions we maybe want him to ask?

You're hoping THEY are going to divulge "secrets" for Peter Shaw to tell us? They'll let us know exactly what they want us to know...and that'll be precious little!

Re: ASSF Chair accepted onto board of directors

we all pick up snippets here and there that either appall us or astound us, I would imagine one can pick up even better snippets by being around the ground 24/7 or in Directors Boxes etc ....

Doug 28-01-2011 23:51

Re: ASSF Chair accepted onto board of directors

It’s plausible that there may be some form of confidentiality clause attached to holding a directorship; although those in the ASSF or very close to it would be in the know only snippets would reach the ears of the great unwashed. Board meetings are generally closed affaires to the workers; so I don’t see much cascading down to the supporters.

What really takes the wee wee for me is the constant stream of lost opportunities for the town and the people of the greater Accrington area. We can only hope the some degree of concord develops and that the clubs current line-up and Ilyas works to stabilise the club once and for all.

I know Dave only put this link on to enlighten BDC about the ASSF, but look beyond the picture and read the story in full...and remember. This is how THEY acted during our moment of crisis. Can you imagine they'll act any differently now?

So the ASSF is a supporters group helped by Ilyas if I understand it correctly? The article mentions a that it involves membership, does this mean it will be opened up to fans to have their voice heard or will it be restricted to the current few to have their say? How does this fit in with the other supporter groups and stakeholders?

I agree with Wynonie to a certain degree that nothing will change unless the action taken is followed up with more steps such as a formal takeover offer and further updates on the state of the club being made available through the previously promised transparency. I hope this is a step in the right direction but until I see further action then my thoughts will stay reserved. Good luck to Peter

Sorry, but this is an absolute token gesture to try and appease the general public.

Or papering over cracks.:(

How this can be construed as a positive move forward beggars belief.

Still the same scenario. A takeover that has never happened. A club that has lurched temporarily from one disaster to another waiting to happen.:(

Two incumbents (we all know who they are) standing in the way of progress and seemingly, quite willing to allow everything to go tits up as long as neither is seen to have lost face.

I may be losing the marbles, however, what is 12% of nothing ????

ASFC...or, at least, the people in charge of ASFC. Reading through that old news story really brings it home again just how shabbily the club have behaved towards its own most dedicated supporters. People can put all the positive spin in the world on news stories coming out of the club, but it doesn't alter the fact that we are going nowhere with that lot in charge. :(

Peter, is a determined, driven, focused individual, he is also trustworthy, honest and very reliable!!

Token gesture, it maybe, told only what people want him to know could also be true, but Peter is well respected by Ilyas and all A.S.S.F. He (and many others) has been working tirelessly for the last 18 months or so for the Stanley cause.

He will be able to spend time daily, in and around the club – something that Ilyas and Peter Marsden cannot do and although he does not have any experience at running a football club, he has a vast knowledge of organasation, rights and wrongs Etc.

Token gesture this appointment maybe, but in essence, it is the first step in Ilyas’ (and most Stanley FANs) dream…… A COMMUNITY CLUB!!!

Peter, as always, you have my 100% backing and support!!

Joe :)

Would not dispute Peter's personal qualities, Joe. I don't know him, but if you say he's a sound lad, that's good enough for me.

What I would dispute is the difference this will make to things. The ownership situation is still the same and as for this being the first step towards a community club, sorry I don't buy it. In my opinion, those at the top don't want a community club and, therefore, will make no more than token steps in this direction.

Do the ones you refer to really have a say regardless of worthless shares owned ? I agree they don't want the community club issue but I would guess it's only a matter of time before they have to give way, I'm guessing the legal wheels turn slowly.

The appointment is really highlighted in Joe's post and has to be not only a step nearer to conclusion but also ensures continouity WHEN it does happen.

As Peter has put in his post the appointment is hopefully the first step along the way to the Club becoming "Community Owned".

In the time I have known Peter he is an first & foremost a fan but among his many attributes he is articulate, composed and just the sort of person that can make a real difference and help bridge the gap between Club & Supporters.

Good Luck Peter:)
