Accy's strongest 11

I was pondering today who Accrington's strongest starting 11 is. I figured why not involve other Forum members.

The idea is simple; what do YOU think is Accy's strongest team?

Personally I would play a 4-3-1-2

GK: Dunbavin
LB: Jacobson
CB:Edwards
CB:Long
RB: Hessey? (Not a fan of Winnard)
RCM: Barnett
CM: Procter
LCM: Turner
CAM: Ryan
ST: Gornell
ST: McConville (Not a big fan, but the lad has done pretty good in front of goal so far this season.)

Can't argue with that tbh. Maybe Id change Long for Hessey from time to time. I'd have loved to include Craney but since signing permanently he appears to be a shadow of his former self.

goal of season? plus he laid the first goal on, a very good night fer Mr Craney.:)

Re: Accy's strongest 11

That's the frustrating thing about him. Jimmy Ryan for example will work his socks off for 90 mins and get nothing to show for it, while Craney will do nothing for most of the game and come away with a great goal and an assist! Crazy.

Crazy shaker, but without his contribution last night Crewe may have nicked the 3 pts Fact.;)

Correct Sir. Shan't downplay it at all. :)

surely the strongest 11 is the side that has won the last two games against sides that are above them in the league....

Re: Accy's strongest 11

would imagine the strongest team would be what JC and JB pick each week as they are far more qualified than us and know there squad inside out.

Not sure if you skim-read the thread or just you decided to be purposely obnoxious but I asked who others thought was the best team if I wanted to know what JB and JC thought I wouldnt need to ask. To be fair how do you know they are more qualified than anyone else? For all you know I may be Sir Alex Fergerson...Besides we know that JC and JB show biasty towards certain members of the squad and the entire scouse population.

He is a fantastic manager but if a lad like Chris Turner had as many chances as JB relative; McConville, I'm sure he'd be doing just as well.

if yeh think that was n obnoxious reply from football 19, god help yeh when yeh enter the real world.:D dont disagree about turner.

What does "biasty" mean ?

I would have thought after reading Football 19 other posting after JC & JB he is the third best qualified.

Re: Accy's strongest 11

Long time red, sorry if you found my post obnoxious, wasnt intended that way,What i meant to say was that the best starting eleven is normally based on the opposition, therefore JC and JB may pick players to do a certain job, example,Long is better equipped to deal with a big centre forward, were Hessey is better dealing with a smaller quick player.
To say whos the better player is unfair, and your right i did skim thro the posts,I must try harder next time !!!

I hate to stick my oar in, but it was Red Blooded who found your post "obnoxious". I think he needs to get acquainted a bit more with our slightly off-the-wall banter on here! ;)

I think if you were Sir Alex you wouldn't have spelt Ferguson like that .... :D

Sorry! :):):)

Re: Accy's strongest 11

Red blooded,I have now read your first post and just a few comments, playing Hessey at right back, hes a centre back whos left footed!,JC tried him at left back and it didnt work!!!,Did you go to the preston game recently?,Chris was tried in your suggested position and he was like a duck out of water and he got subbed.
If you dont do it at resis level you wont get a sniff at first team level.
Regarding Deano, who you dont like,HES A DEFENDER,first and foremost, playing every game but one ( lost 3-1),and the team has only lost 8 league games, and hes not playing in his prefered centre back position due to Phil playing so well,so he cant be doing that badly.
Finally sean mac is not a forward, hes more effective in a roaming roll facing goal, not with his back to it as Gornall is so good at

Sorry,19, but I had to laugh at that. Is he a hippopotamus, now?:D Only at home. of course.

Redraine, hands up,thats a very witty reply!!!!!,Theres too many sharp people on this web site,i will be getting a complex soon.
PS I did forecast last july that sean mac would have a good season, and hes not letting me down yet!!!!

Re: Accy's strongest 11

i once posted a thread asking people who they thought our best XI ever was (pound for pound at all levels) and got half a dozen indignant replies that the current one is the best ever undisputably (must have been the 1st season in the FL)

For what its worth.

Dunbavin
Bateson Edwards Long Jacobson
Proctor Joyce
Ryan Barnett Putterill
Gornall

Winnard loses out as JJ offers more going forwards in my opinion and Id like to see Deano play more at centre half as and when required - but he offers great versatility right across the line

Craney loses out as I think the other three attacking midfielders offer more regular effort and all four are equally as gifted in different ways at cerating match winning moments. Putterill has to play more often to get back to his mazy runs.

Sean Mc loses out for a whole host of reasons but I like to know he's there on the bench. Crewe winning goal was fantastic but he doesn't do anywhere near enough of that.

Boulding and Linfield won't even make the bench Im afraid and will have to pay £13 to come in

new red 26-02-2011 11:38

Re: Accy's strongest 11

Very valid points Macca. i too would try a different backline at times and include Bateson rather than Deano. Good player but other players could more than fill his boots and offer more in some games.
Also agree re Boulding and Lindfield. They dont offer any real threat from the bench.

I know mate, I just feel Phil keeps making alot of mistakes, and with the way Hessey is playing.......... alongside Long would be immense

VALAIRIAN 26-02-2011 19:24

The way Hess played today, he would not get on the bench!!!!

Beats me how anyone can include Proccy in a strongest 11, good 100% er no question, but strongest 11? yer havin a laugh.

football19 27-02-2011 12:50

Re: Accy's strongest 11

Must disagree mr Cashman,Proctor is a very effective player, always gives 100%,and is probably Accis best defensive midfielder.
Regarding this thread, the strongest 11 is not necessarly the best team 11,
Its all about combinations,10 messi,s wouldnt make Barca a better team.
( although they would be entertaining!!).

Proccy first name on t'sheet fer me Cashy.

I said he was a good 100% player, n as fer 10 messi's if yeh have bothered to read other posts yeh would know what i think about that. we will have to disagree on hes accys best defensive player, watch how many times he stands n waits fer the ball to come to him, n how many times the ball is lost through it, then tell me the same.

smudgie 27-02-2011 15:46

Re: Accy's strongest 11

Wouldent say Proccy is the 1st name on the sheet, but hes an effective engine. Nothing more.

football19 27-02-2011 16:23

Re: Accy's strongest 11

I think Proccy is Accis best defensive midfielder,as we disagree mr Cashman, who do you think is.
I seem to remember us not winning a game whilst he was out on a 3 match ban !!!,
All about opinions tho,
PS i am warming to the idea of 10 Messi s !!!!!

Alvin the chipmunk 28-02-2011 13:15

Re: Accy's strongest 11

Proccy leads by example and is currently showing the form that made Rochdale enquire about him. He may not make headlines every week but for consistency, effort and tackling abilities he's surely the best in this division.

Shame he can't bottle that football medicine....that would be all our money problems sorted :D
