Paragraph 2 is the most interesting to me.

"19 months after relinquishing the day to day running of the club". having known Eric for many years some of the decisions made during this time certainly did not seem his style.
I spoke to him a while back regarding the cheap season ticket offer, his comments where as you would expect. this was in my opinion a big mistake as i suggest it did not put more bums on seats, just eroded the clubs income.
Also our Commercial Dept should certainly take a good look at itself (or perhaps Mr Khan should look at it) it surely isn't pulling its weight in the old days all games had sponsors, we had new boards around the ground, also how successful is our weekly draw these days.

Re: check out todays telegraph

its certainly true that the Commercial Team doesn't appear to be doing its job. Ground not sponsored, no new shirt sponsorship tied up, boards not full, games not sponsored etc etc - Hopefully this is all linked to EW still casting his shadow but should this latest twist happen to be true then the gloom should be lifted and they can finally start to earn their corn.

As for the weekly draw, i've never liked it. I think that the main benefit of how it is at the moment is that the club do not have to do much regarding the organising of it. But I would certainly prefer a draw that is actually made at the club (half-time) and where the winners are all local. Does anybody think that the draw, with lower 'jackpots' but local winners would encourage more or less entrants?

cashman 24-02-2011 08:51

Re: check out todays telegraph

dont think its right to knock commercial dept, as hands were tied wi that albatross around there necks, once the DoN hopefully follows suit, then they stand a much improved chance of attracting sponsors. IMHO.

agreed - but hopefully they have a long list of businesses to contact who have previously intimated that they wouldn't deal with us again whilst he is around

I've had a ticket in that draw for, must be ten years Mac, but never see the winners printed anywhere does this happen and it does where are they published?

maccawozzagod 24-02-2011 09:01

Re: check out todays telegraph

there is a list of main winners published almost every week on the website. Failing that you can usually find them on the Blackpool or Preston sites.

There are however many bigger winners but then a couple of hundred or so £5 or £10 winners where the names aren't published - I only know whether Ive won or not when the tenner drops on the doormat!

As welcome as tenners are on the mat, to be honest any of us only ever play these sort of things for jackpots don't we?

Whalley was leaving Stanley eighteen months ago when he "sold" his 51% shareholding to O'Neill. I will believe it when I see it, but maybe it will happen "in the next couple of weeks".

Thanks for that Mac, its just that, as I said, I've had a number in the draw for about 10 years and have never won a bean:)

Re: check out todays telegraph

The weekly draw at its height had around 2000 members at £1 per week for this I understand that the club received 60 /65% say £1300 52 WEEKS A YEAR. The downside was that it needs collecting + new members need to be found to replace natural wastage. The fact that it was connected to another club is irellievent. This type of draw is not only aimed at the supporters but at every household in the area. so therefore the bigger the prize the bigger the bait.
Macca's club house draw would never raise this type of money, nor would our present commercial team who are all Don's people full of big ideas with little sunstance i'm affraid ( I exclude the guy in the shop from this as he seems to get plenty of praise) We seem to have missed the boat on so many levels, back to basics boys get your arses out there and earn your money.

maccawozzagod 24-02-2011 11:05

Re: check out todays telegraph

I wasnt meaning a club house draw Dave, pretty much the same as it is now/was with the exception that we do the running of it in return for being able to offer local winners rather than ones all over the North of England.

Yes, to begin with the prizes would be smaller as £2k a week income could only offer £500 jackpot - however I'm thinking along the lines that if you know people who have won you are much more inclined to enter. When we first began the Gold Bond we only had average crowds around the 500 mark and couldn't possibly have dreamed about average crowds at 1600 +. We now have a bigger market than we did and possibly more collectors available to push it.

maccawozzagod 24-02-2011 11:06

Re: check out todays telegraph

I believe the income dropped to around £1200 a week 18 months ago, but I'm not sure whether it has increased/decreased since

Re: check out todays telegraph

Macca the thing about the existing weekly draw ( if run properly) means that you aren't hitting the speccys but the people of Accy. How many houses are there between The Crown and say Highams these should all be canvassed.
That way you leave the regulars with an extra pound for Liz's 50/50 or whatever. We should maximise every opportunity no club will ever survive on gate money. Certainly not at £6+ per game for season tickets.

Pendle Red 24-02-2011 17:47

Re: check out todays telegraph

Long Time Red is correct in a lot of ways wth revenue streams

The weekly draw is a win win or should be for the Club the more folk in it the bigger the kick back

Localising it at the moment there are probably reasons for it maybe needing agents to run it?

I am a member of a few different local groups who have members draws weekly & monthly and they provide as Macca says Localised winners which in turn generates it's own publicity and keeps it's loyalty base whilst continuing to ensure they grow providing bigger prizes and more income revenue.

Maybe it is something that could be really pushed & worked upon with a "Community Club" in that part of any membership could maybe become an integral part of an income generator.

If the club were quick enough there could be a special draw for the date & time for when it all becomes official :)

C'mon, guys, since when did a solicitor do anything in a week? It takes 'em that long to pick up the phone. And there could be at least three solicitors involved here.
Definitely the week after 'next week'.
