Re: Northampton Thread

A great result without hitting the heights we have in recent games. Some very tired red legs in the second half, and I just wish Coley would use his subs more during the second half, as I feel we are losing a bit of sharpness by flogging the starting players. We play at a very high tempo and it seems to me the 2 games a week schedule is beginning to show. I hope I'm wrong. A very disappointing gate considering the good news this week, and the fact that Northampton brought a decent following.

Just got back to pie eating land after a great day at the Crown. Not the best performance, but fer me, MOM was Ian Craney, not just for his 2 goals, but the shift he put in today. Cisak was excellent and performed when he had to, could not have done anything for the cobblers goal.My main worry is tired legs, playing again Tuesday and Friday is a worry, but 1-0 wins even in squeaky bum time will do me. Onwards and upwards

Re: Northampton Thread

Northampton brought a decent following but it cant have been much more than 300? Still disappointing though considering the recent run, goals scored, play offs in sight and Eric dun one.

Really chuffed with todays result. We never seemed to get the game going as in some of the more recent efforts as Northampton always seemed to have a man in the way of the pass. Is that well played Northampton? Hereford seemed to allow us to play far better football but yet they also played some good football, Northampton offered nowt but seemed to give us nowt neither.

First two goals were rather scrappy and could have gone anywhere type of goals but we DID deserve to be leading by said scoreline.

Happy day at the office and SU were again fully commanding.

Well another win for the mighty Redmen of Accrington.

Beginning to get rather giddy now!!

Thought we did another professional job, they looked a tricky side, especially in the 1st 20 mins, Hessey was having all sorts of problems and was lucky not to see red IMO.

Superb decision by Coley to bring him off at Half time, no point risking 10 men when we have a fresh Kevin Long sat on the bench.

Hoping Jimmys knock isnt 2 bad.

Roll on Tuesday !!!!!!!!!!

Re: Northampton Thread

A very good first half with again nice pass & go stuff another cracker from Macca, MOM definately Craney but again a good team performance.

Second half the Cobblers made some changes and then pegged us back a little again just following on from other posters maybe tired legs played their part I don't think it was a case of job done just pressing from Northampton.

Another Three points and another big game Tuesday

Well Done to the Ultras rousing stuff and it definately gives everyone a lift:)

I have tried to hold this in, but after 2 hours or so (and a few Bombay Sapphire & tonics,),
'How was Alex Cisak Man of the match' he didn't have 1 save to make'.
This is no reflection on Alex by the way, (Makes it sound like he was really busy all afternoon).
Who picked 'Man of Match today'.

I would not be suprised if Proccy is still not running around the Pitch now.

Great first half, Shakin Stevens for much of the second. Annoying that ref gifts them a goal that cost us clean sheet, no way should that have been a free kick. Multiple contenders for MOM Cisask (great saves, he's been tremendous since he came in), Edwards ( fantastic defending week in week out), Procter (just for sheer effort), Joyce (lynchpin of the last eight to ten games),Ryan (could watch this guy play all day long), Craney (Goals and guile) and Gornell (Work rate once again). Also honourable mentions to both full backs who seem to have got some stick recently (Winnard especially). Both played very well today. Very disappointed with the crowd today after the week's events. Come on Accy!! It's a fiver on Tuesday for exceptional, live in the flesh footy!

Re: Northampton Thread

Typical "gary johnson" football from Northampton, stop Acci playing football and get the ball forward early (boring long ball),play for set pieces from corners and set pieces.
Hessey lost his head following an elbow, and was falling into there hands by giving the ball away and conceeding needless free kicks.
This is not recommended when you have a seven foot tall centre back ( have to mention deano, who marked him and give him nothing).
It was a massive desicion to pull hessey off,but the correct one.
Defenders played well, but the key men today were Proctor and Joyce who were excellent.
When these players play well it allows Craney and Sean to influence the game in the final third.
Jimmys workrate is worth a mention also

Re: Northampton Thread

Luke Joyce would have been my MOM yesterday, he broke up play so well without committing himself to silly tackles or ineffective ones that left him out of the game.

However my focus throughout the game seemed to wander to the ariel battles and after he lost out in one after about 5 mins, Proccy won every header he went for until finally coming second best twice just as the board went up for added on time at 90 mins, both of those were against the 7 foot centre half Northampton had an he had run 20-30 yards to challenge for them in both cases. It was just complete DOMINANCE, which considering the hieght they had in there side was stunning!!!

I will also mention that Phil Edwards appeared to get his hand stamped on in the first couple of minutes and I saw him mangling it about an shaking it alot, then after half time he came out wih it fairly well strapped up. Having been on the reciving end of that style of finger strapping as a keeper, it may well be that he either dislocated it or broke it!

Another great result! Well done Coley, Jimmy and the boys. Thought that there were 12 MOM's today... they were all superb and brave. Agree that it could have been a good idea to rest some legs in last 25 Minutes and give the subs a run out. Looking at the run in we could get some disruption from injuries, (hope Jimmy is ok?), and even suspensions, (one or two have racked up anumber of bookings.. Hessey?). It is likely that some of the rest of the squad will need to play, and having a run out could have been a good idea. We are scoring more goals and now we are playing like we expect to score goals which is breeding a growing confidence. Alex Cisak is playing suberbly and I have been trying to get the Ultras to come up with a song for him. For cobblers goal though he just took his eye of the free kick taker to double check his position by glancing down to his right hand post exactly as the free kick was taken. Made him react just a fraction too late, otherwise I really think he could have saved it. He really has been a revelation since coming in.. high balls and crosses give me much less fear now. Bavs did really well too in the wetter and colder part of the season. Two great keepers now! Bring a friend on Tuesday and sell the gate... Let's all do our utmost to get right behind Ilyas, the management and the players.. we could be making history in the next few weeks... ON STANLEY ON

Not much chance with that free kick....however it didn't help that their big clown of a centre half (No 5) kept dancing around in front of him, trying to obscure his view when he was trying to line up the wall. With those sort of antics / tactics hardly suprising that he may have "lost his bearings".:o

Pleasing to see that, despite a performance that looked a little short of what we'd consider the norm, knowing how well these lads can play at times...we've still picked up the three points !! A sign of a good side!!!:D

I'd have to agree with the other comments about the gate yesterday...poor considering last week's events and the fact the team are reaching the heights that they are doing:(

We know things have changed but is that message getting out to the wider public?

Tuesday will be an acid test at a fiver, where we are in the League and how we are playing you would like to think it would push the crowd well over the 2000 mark on the Crown Ground.

The "I Believe" if adopted and used in a productive manner or "Back the Boys" as both our neighbours with different campaigns have done over the past few years there is a real potential to make a difference in a short period of time.

It's like if we were to go up automatic how many would it stick on the gates for next season?

If we were to go up via the play-offs how many would it then attract probably a lot more because of the journey and the day out & the feel good factor.

I would like nothing more than to see us pulling 3000 plus for each game from now to the end of the season it is nothing more than the Club & Team deserve for their endevours and the way they have played.

How can we do it?

I personaly think that we have to be realistic for the remainder of this season. The gates will creep up slowly as we make a push for the playoffs...........infact they have moved upwards already, however the club has this summer to REALLY push itself to the town once again and start to build for next season.............we have a lot of bridges to mend remember!

I honestly feel that with the ownership debacle now behind us, we should be pushing the club more in and around the area, however I also realise that there is still a lot of work to do within the club itself and that, for now, must take priority, but at the same time not losing sight of the 'bigger picture'.

Does that make sense? lol :)

The opportunity for pushing the fanbase that must be exploited if it arises (crosses fingers, toes and anything else available) is a place in the playoffs. As I've said before, I don't think we can afford automatic promotion, simply because it would mean losing that opportunity.

Potentially not if all season ticket holders just brought one person on Tuesday it would probably push it through the 2k barrier.

The thing is once they are through the gate if we play as we have been I think they would certainly be impressed enough to come back, I know of three such people that are coming back on Tuesday as the Clarets have no game.

I agree with that, love then or loathe them the play-offs generate their own level of excitement. Even if Stanley only got as far as the semi-finals of the play offs and lost, that week or two of press coverage will gain the club more money and gain them a few more fans for the long term future.

tuesdays game should already be taken care of regarding advertising due to the fiver push. But It won't be. A mention here and there in the paper isn't good enough advertising and never has been, it only means that those coming anyway do so for cheaper.

As for the EW bogging off the news only broke very late on thursday and only got a passing mention in the Telegraph. Had it made the Observer deadline it would have got at least a full page whereby a hell of a lot more would have seen it.

Gates will go up anyway because of the run in, but we could also be pushing it ourselves with poster campaigns.

Outback Ozzy 04-04-2011 08:55

Re: Northampton Thread

Whilst I agree with the sentiments of Google Page Ranking and UKCowboy, surely the one thing that will bring the punters back is something that will cost a lot of money i.e. bring the ground into the 21st century with modern toilet facilities etc. At least the home punters are now kept dry with roof's over the head (especially as the forecast for tomorrow aint great!). Macca may have the right idea about posters plastered around town and in the papers, but a lot of Stanley's support comes from further afield at the moment. The club needs to get folk away from Ewood Park, Turf Moor and dare I say it Old Trafford to come and watch proper football played at a level that has excitement and folks biting their nails when watching Stanley, I know I am down to the knuckles now and expect to have no fingers by the end of the season whether we get to the play-offs or automatic or miss out. We can all spread the word, but maybe the idea on another thread by Macca about local businessmen and Accy supporters volunteering to help the club, through the summer to bring the ground bang up to date.

meself i think the team shape suits our players more, though could be changed at certain times, certain players in squad are vastly improved from last season, sean Mc being a great example, also think cisak has improved defensive confidence, which has made a big difference,? just my 2 pennorth.:) bring on Southend.

another factor i think, whilst we have played good football all season, some of the best stuff i seen is since the return of craney, some may not agree but thats fact.

Think your right there cashman.
Reading an article from a Northampton paper and they said the team couldnt cope with the midfield three behind the loan striker(sean, craney and ryan),all technically good players with good movement.
This, with pace and power from other areas creates a formidable team, and thats what we are seeing.
On a side issue,I havent seen much of Craney before this season, but even when he easnt fit you could tell he could play a bit,and the system suits him and sean, who i think would have struggled in a 4-4-2 system.
Another boring fact, whos got the most assists this season????,I wasnt suprised when told it was craney!!!!!.
