Pre Season
I know it a bit early, and we have one one player signed up, has any one heard of any friendlies,
|
Re: Pre Season
I know the fixtures are released on the 17th June, so im assuming as soon as they are announced, a number of pre-season games will be.
Hope we get Clitheroe away again, had a right laugh last season, despite the weather! Burnley at Home??? Joma Cup again??? Who knows I suppose. Priority is to get the lads signed up again then we can start worrying about the games . |
Re: Pre Season
They may decide not to have any home games and give the pitch time to be sorted. There currently isn't one :)
|
Re: Pre Season
Joma Cup I would imagine was down to them being the Kit Supplier at the time?
Would be nice to have a genuine Premiership team at the Crown but the pitch problems possibly would put paid to that? Maybe no harm in somebody picking the phone up to somebody like Mr.Holloway and seeing if we could all have a day out at the seaside:) It is important though I think to have a good and varied pre-season for morale, bonding, fitness, shape and various triallists and then look to hit the ground running for the Season kicking off. |
Re: Pre Season
Play every game away sadly so the pitch can be sorted out. After the outing on sky I doubt the league will be understanding after a couple of months to sort it
|
Re: Pre Season
Away at AFC Darwen on a saturday please, so I can stay in bed til at least 2:30 pm;)

Celtic at the Crown Ground Apparently :)
|
Re: Pre Season
From this weeks accy observer its on the back page ....
John Colemans testimonial will take place in pre season when scottish giants celtic will come to the crown ground. The Reds boss is being rewarded for his 12 years at the helm where he has taken the reds from the unibond first division to the fringes of league one and is setting up a bumper clash in accrington. I spoke to the celtic boss neil lennon this week and he said he would bring a team down so its just a case of finalising the date now said the reds boss. His assistant jimmy bell will also get acknowledgement for his 12 year tenure with the reds as championship side burnley bring a team to the crown ground for his testimonial. So far we have radcliffe borough on 13 july said coleman. Then there is celtic and burnley to organise and we have others in the pipeline. so if i come to the match against celtic .. does this mean i can sing 'the sash my father wore'?:p:p:p |
Re: Pre Season
Does it say Farsley Celtic are ready to start a Mudball League
played on a topless pitch? :rofl38: :rofl38: :rofl38: |

whilst agree, the "Celts" aint as bad, they aint no saints by a long chalk.
|
Re: Pre Season
think its a great gesture by "Neil Lennon" though,n coleman well deserves it, i don't normally "Do" testimonials, but fer coley i would make n exception.;) its a shame the "Crown" don't hold more am sure more will want to attend.

Re: Pre Season
Hi, just thought I'd say hello.
I'm a Celtic supporter, hoping to come to the Crown for the pre-season, bringing the kids with me. Is the ground far from the train station? Will I need a cab? And is there a club shop, I like to get the kids some stuff as souveniers. Thanks. |
Re: Pre Season
Hi The tick, train station is about a mile from the ground, about half hour walk but beware it is all uphill, cab can be got just outside the station, and there is a club shop go on our website for shop or ring lewis at the shop direct there you go
|
Re: Pre Season
At Lincoln two years ago there were only 3780 in attendence at the game
|
Re: Pre Season
Thanks ddevil, the shop is closed right now but I'll try again Monday thanks. The hill is bad news, the kids will be annoyed enough being dragged away from the xbox to see a real football match!
Glasgow Guy..... I went to Lincoln, with my kids. The only violent or threatening behaviour I saw was when I was threatened (in front of my kids) by 3 Lincoln City lads. Fortunately I was able to calm the situation and ended up getting on ok with them. Apart from that, I saw many Celtic & Lincoln fans talking to each other around the ground. We got there 2 hours before the kick off. There was kids entertainment going on in the playing fields next to the ground, my kids were playing with Lincoln City fans kids. Afterwards we went to a pub with some of them & had some dinner. On the way back, I spoke to a Lincoln City fan (a season ticket holder) who spoke about the trouble in the town before the match. He told me that some Lincoln City fans had started throwing stuff at Celtic fans who were sat outside a pub and that's how it started. I'm not trying to present our fans as being squeaky clean. Every club has an element of violence in it and Celtic are no exception. But I do wonder what you're trying to incite here. There will be tricolours being waved, and old rebel songs being sung, but that is the history of our club, they are our colours and have been since we were formed in 1888. Even the Queen has paid respect to the men who are referred to in those songs during her visit to Ireland recently. I bet you love your username being in green btw. |
Re: Pre Season
I am not trying to incite anything other than let people know what they will get get when 'the greatest fans in the world' arrive in town, and whilst the green brigade will make their opinions known I am sure there are some very normal and decent fans like yourself..
and the old rebel songs being sung that are part of the 'history' - are those the same ira rebel songs you hear on matchday at celtic park? where do they fit into your clubs history? and please dont say they dont get sung.. did you sing about no bloodstained poppy on your hoops? and referring to the queen paying respect..is that really the best you can do to justify singing those type of songs and I dont mind my user being in green? I bet you dont like being tainted with the same brush that the 'green brigade' get tainted with.. |
Re: Pre Season
Is there any chance that a moderator can excise this nasty Glasgow-based venom from our forum?

there is nothing I have posted that is not true..whether people like it or not. and what do you mean by excise? I am nothing to do with duty or any tax.. |
Re: Pre Season
I have tried to avoid posting on this as it is obvious to anyone from accy that knows me that I am a Rangers fan but this is following the usual pattern of lie, deny and deflect which is usually followed by accusations of anti catholic, anti Irish bigotry. It is true that Rangers fans get a bad name given what appears in the Scottish press but to think that Celtic are any different is deluding yourself. The only difference is that up here Rangers supposedly cutting the pitch in the shape of a sash makes front page but a Hearts ball boy suffering brain damage after being coined by celtic fans recently makes made page 24 of the Record. ant if "the tick" is to be belived this Four charged after violence at Celtic friendly in Lincoln | Glasgow and West | STV News never happened.
For the sake of Coley and Stanley I hope it all goes well but I for one won't be there. As Cashman says both teams have there bad elements but until you experience it don't feel qualified to judge who is the worst. Just think, If we saw the pictures of the riot police at Accy and jase getting a 3 year ban would we know that it was way over the top and Jase is a fan not a criminal. Feel free to ban me too. |
Re: Pre Season
I think it's worth remembering that this match hasn't actually been confirmed, just mooted as an idea.

I agree Dave but a bad idea in my opinion and you are also correct Stanleymad why mention Rangers in the first place as we have no connection with this supposed fixture.
|
Re: Pre Season
the Lincoln example is a bad one, remember we got our coach bricked there 18 months ago after they won and with no bad blood between us. How many friendlies do Celtic play without bother?
|
Re: Pre Season
hi lads i was just browsing through some sites there and i came across this.... i nearly fell off my chair reading those two rangers fans so i had to register and tell you how it is, as a resident of manchester.
celtic have been invited down to play my team, man utd 5 or 6 times over the past few years. they travel in big numbers and some of them get pretty drunk but very rarely have i seen any trouble from them. once or twice, yes, when they were provoked. i would say fairly minor incidents. but they are good humoured and friendly as a whole. rangers, on the other hand i have to say are absolute animals. i will never forget that day in manchester for the rest of my life. it was actually the worst day of my life. i had to walk through them because i work in the city. i don't have to describe what they did because it is easy to look it up on youtube but as a large gathering which you have to be exposed to is scary. ****ing on the streets, verbally abusing passers-by who could be male or female, they don't differentiate. you'll have no trouble with celtic fans unless you try to provoke them and they'll create a great atmosphere. |
Re: Pre Season
Let me cast my mind back 32yrs when Celtic came to the Turf in the Anglo Scots Cup and the fear as a 15yr old still etched inside of me. Take a look at the pictures int the daily papers the day after the match when ths Celtic fans tore down the segregation fence in the Longside and used them as weapons against the police.

Perhaps the emphasis is on quality opposition this pre season!!;)

Re: Pre Season
Celtic came to Blackburn when Souness was in charge for a European match a few years ago and that was a very bad day indeed. If they come to Stanley I certainly won't be there - they hark back to the bad old days of hooliganism.
|
Re: Pre Season
Souness was a Rangers man, that would have had some bearing on the situation.

Celtic have never had a real organised casual element to their support, and by no means are we perfect, but to be specially awarded by both FIFA and UEFA for the behaviour of 80,000 travelling fans in Seville for the UEFA cup final, and not one arrest being made, says it all really. Any fan base if attacked will stand as one and this has happened in the past, but it is rare for Celtic fans to go out of their way to cause trouble. Aside from that, I hope this friendly goes ahead, it would be a belter of a weekend. Hopefully see you all at the game. EDIT: Just found this on an old programme website RE the Burnley match. Quote:

Re: Pre Season
I dont see why all the negativity about this 'proposed' fixture is all about. Coleman has chosen this fixture and he deserves to play against a big team for his long time in charge, so be it he's chosen celtic.
They may have a long term history or a recent history of trouble at games but this boils down to the size of their support, your obviously guna get your fair share of idiots on a certain day when they take thousands and thousands away from home. If coley had chosen anybody else the size of celtic, perhaps united, city, liverpool, everton and maybe even rangers, theres potential for trouble, but you can put that down to the size of the team, none of the teams above have perfect history either! Let coley pick who he wants, he deserves it! |
Re: Pre Season
Celtic do still have a casual element.... I saw them running from the ASC in January...... :)
But both the auld firm are as bad as each other, we should play the dandies instead |
Re: Pre Season
Can remember way back, stopping in Paisley in a mini-coach, on way up to Ayr,when ally mcloud was ayr manager, 12 of us went in a pub all in our blue n white colours, approached the bar n was surrounded by about 2 dozen slavering celtic supporters, twas a celt pub n they thought we were Rangers fans, luckily they let us explain we were blackburn fans on our way up fer a pre-season friendly, the mood changed instantly, none of our lads paid fer a drink in the hour we spent in yon, so whilst knowing theres good n bad everywhere i have no complaints, spent a great hour wi those guys.:)
|
Re: Pre Season
why oh why have we not chosen Dundonald?
|
Re: Pre Season
Or the Mighty Mighty Morton:cool:
Or even the biggest club 'in' scotland Berwick Rangers:p |
