Because there's nothing else to talk about...

Decided to start a blog during the close season. The first entry is about the unfairness surrounding bigger clubs signing out of contract players from lower league clubs like us. Have a scant :)

that's a good read Shakey, I enjoyed it.

On the topic, I think that we will undoubtedly lose some players and the whole squad building begins again. But, if Ryan, Gornell and McConville were all to move on and the club does net 'a few hundred grand' imagine what it could do for our club now that we are in trustworthy hands.

The share issue may also raise a few hundred grand, and Rob Heys is on record as saying that things are looking up on the commercial side, and season tickets are unduly affected by the 73% (or whatever it was) increase. From the end of the season to the beginning of the new there might possibly be upwards of a million quid coming up. That is equivalent to a full years turnover and it is all going to be surplus cash (as in not budgeted for). The club could be really turned around by all this money and I would like to think that is the best possible legacy that Ryan et al could ever leave us with.

Of course that means Coley has to get his gem polishing rag out again but .....

Just out of interest, hasn anyone got any idea roughly how much dosh the club will pick up from the O2/Vodafone mast that will be stuck up in the ground - pending, of course the usual complaints from the neighbours and plannibg permission from HBC?

Nice read young Shaky, keep it going. Closed season is an awful time to be a Accrington Stanley supporter out here on the periphery, no local contact and a dead space of a fishy website.

Tealeaf; don't think the idea will get a good reception.

Spot on Shaker! A first-class blog!

It probably won't get a good reception, although it will probably increase the quality of mobile reception for people in Accy. Anyway, all the paperwork is now lodged with HBC and given that several other sites were previously considered, we can only assume that the club is working alongside the telecom companies. What apparently makes the plan attractive is that the mast will blend in with the floodlights.

Really good read Shaker well done:)

I have seen a few things on the under 24's transfers and still at a loss as to how things are worked out in terms of valuations if it goes to tribunal?

It must be really difficult for the Club (John & Jimmy) to operate & plan for each season.

I did note that at Bloomfield Road Blackpool had activated clauses in some player's contracts for a further twelve months would something along those lines work for Stanley?

Great stuff. Doesn't it put into perspective the countless millions the Premier League clubs splash about among themselves for some very ordinary players, whilst ignoring the talent blossoming in the lower divisions?

That's a very good point but I suppose the argument from them is it's all about results and in that players have to hit the ground running and more so the higher up the pyramid you go certainly in the higher echolons of the PL.

Maybe UEFA's financial fair play rulings will go some way to addressing that balance?

If you only give players a one year contract then you have a greater risk of them moving on.
