Favourite Away Days
With the fixtures coming out next Friday and everyone will soon be planning their trips away, I was just thinking about my top 5 favourite away trips watching the mighty reds
In no particular order...... Gretna - Unibond First Division - Dec 1999. My first "real" away trip on the Minibus with Bubs, Plum, Loweiy, Kieran and the "two daves". Stopped at the "billyshack" on the way up and was on the p**s in Gretna for 11am. Boring Game, Freezing Cold, but we went on run from then, all the way to winning the title. (Plus Coley put a case of beer on the bus for the trip home) Forest Green - Conference - April 2006 Great Friday night game, few beers in Stroud on the way down and a great laugh in the clubhouse after the game. Runcorn - Unibond Premier - February 2003 Won 2-0 with two Lutel James Penalties (plus he missed one!). This is on the list cos I will never forget some Runcorn fan leaning over after the game and saying to me "Enjoy your ONE season in the Conference" Dream on Pal !!! Stockport - League Two - August 2006 First away trip back in the League, another great Friday night game, all topped of by that wonder goal by Welch. Woking - Conference - April 2006 Enough said :D That's mine, what's yours ???????? |
Re: Favourite Away Days
Since Ash and Timmins have been sorting the coaches its so easy now to go to more away games. Hopefully get some more under my belt next season funds permitting!!
Port Vale will always stand out the other year. It was Vales first home game after being relegated and were league favourites and had sold over 6000 season tickets and all the fans in the club before the game were talking of a walkover . . . . I think it was less than 2 minutes in Craney had rocketted a free kick in to the top corner . . :) |
Re: Favourite Away Days
My first away game was at Leigh RMI - we won 6-0. They changed their name to Leigh Genesis a bit back but they have folded this summer apparently.
Another brilliant day out was Shrewsbury this easter dressed as the Cookie Monster.... |
Re: Favourite Away Days
Torquay for the 2nd weekender was a great away trip for many reasons
Grays live on Sky when we stopped them breaking the Conference successive win record Exeter same season live on Sky Guiseley last game of the season, prob 95-96 was a corker Winsford 84 will last forever in the memory |
Re: Favourite Away Days

Re: Favourite Away Days
My 1st away day was southport away in conference in 06, top v bottom and we lost 2-0 ha.
My favourite is bury away also in 06 just after being promoted, best part of 1000 accy fans there that night the atmosphere was ace. I also really liked morecambe away in 09 i think it were, when it were boxing day, i think we won 2-0 or 2-1 cant remember, it was ace. Also ones to mention QPR away in carling cup and doncaster away this season all top do's. |

Also enjoyed the Torquay weekenders and the Port Vale thrashing when supremely confident Valiant fans thought they would walk all over us. So chaps and chapesses, where's the away weekend this year, Plymouth for a change? |
Re: Favourite Away Days
My favourite one was the SOS match at Burnley. Great ground and great set of home fans :D
|
Re: Favourite Away Days
gotta be Halifax in the 50s, cos at that time the "Shay" made the crown look up market.:D but the pies were ace, more recent Shrewsbury this season, nice ground n ace away fans.:)

Re: Favourite Away Days
Notts County
Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem - the oldest pub in the country (1100). The crusaders set off for the Holy Land from here. After a few pints of Olde Trip bitter, I'm surprised they ever got started. Crewe The British Lion - A cracking pint in congenial surroundings. Liked it so much, I went back after the match for more beer with Phil Whalley and Mike A. Port Vale The Bull's Head - Purveyors of Titanic ales - nectar of the gods. And they were giving away beefburgers to everyone who bought a pint. Nirvana! Football?...what football? ;) |
Re: Favourite Away Days
Torquay United, 2009/2010 Season.
Despite losing 1-2 in the last minute to another crackers moment from Kempson it was a superb weekend away. Brilliant people and company all weekend. Rochdale Away, 2009/2010 Season The game when I really thought we could beat anybody. Rochdale where smashing everybody in sight yet we put them to the sword with probably 1 of my all time favourite stanley goals from Symes :) Halifax Town away, 2003-2004 Season Why I picked this I have no idea, but I really enjoyed it. Especially when the pie man Gouck smashed in the equaliser :) |
