1922 Cup Medal
Hi all, Burnley fan here.
I have in my possession a medal that my great grandad won whilst playing for Accrington Stanley in the 1920's It's a 1922 "winners" medal, the research i've done i believe it's from the Richardson Cup? But i believe he played in the reserves only making a few first team appearances. His name was Richard Bradburn. Will this medal hold any significance for anyone? History wise? It's quite small and no stamps or anything on the back. I'd love some info if anyone has it. Thanks, Rick |
Re: 1922 Cup Medal
I seem to recall from my day as the man in black, The Richardson Cup was a West Lancs League trophy. Not sure how long the West Lancs league has been going though

Re: 1922 Cup Medal
According to West Lancashire Football League - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, Stanley Reserves were West Lancashire League champions in 1922/23 so it's quite conceivable that they won the cup in the previous season. It's definitely inscribed 1922, is it, and not for the winning the league in 1922/23?

Re: 1922 Cup Medal
There's also this from Greger Lindberg's excellent site: Bradburn, confirming that our reserves won the Richardson Cup, but in 1923.

Email or write to the National Football Museum, now housed in Manchester but they still work from Preston. They employ enthusiasts to research such matters.
