Ah well, here's what the Oxford fans thought:- see "thoughts arising from the Accrington game"

Re: The better start an Oxford thread this Millenium thread
from what I have read, OUFC fans seem to wear the same rose tinted spectacles as most fans! FFS how can they say we are a relegation threatened team, where did they finish last season?, 10 games into a season and we are relegation threatened, there aving a larf. Coley is working his magic again to mould a completely new team apart from the odd player.

Re: The better start an Oxford thread this Millenium thread
We played well and certainly deserved a draw, if not all three points. There is no doubt we would have won but for at least 3 superb saves by the Oxford keeper (although Sean Murdoch made a couple of fine saves, too). The Oxford fans I was with after the game all thought we should have won. Their goal was a total fluke - a free-kick (for a non-existent foul) which took a deflection.
Our defence looked solid, although I worry that a couple of times there were heated exchanges between defenders and goalkeeper about whether he should come to collect through balls. Luke Joyce once again ran the midfield showwith Peter Murphy again playing well. Having said that, I think that Proccy is wasted in a more forward role. I'm not sure why Deano was subbed. Was he ill or injured? Ian Craney remains enigmatic. He forced a couple of good saves from Ryan Clarke but he is clearly not fit enough for a 90-minute appearance. Difficult to pick out Stanley's MoM. It was a fine team performance. But for me, it would be any one of Luke Joyce, Kevin Long or Sean Hessey. The real Mom, however, was on the Oxford team. It was either keeper Ryan Clarke or veteran central defender Michael Duberry who I thought was tremendous. And a special mention for the referee and linesmen - three total plonkers. |

Make no mistake,Acci were by far the better team, backed up again by oxfords mom being there keeper.
Acci played all the football, were oxford tried to hit constable early at every opportunity, and play off him. For what its worth, hes how i rated us. Murdoch-little hesitant at first, but solid and a couple of saves. Deano-good defending, got forward and hit post(went into game with ankle injury and it caught up with him) Mcintyre-best game in a stanley shirt, and was composed in posession. Hessey-typical game, organising, and not ltting people swich off. Long-magificent,strong,and composed.could have scored with two great headers,my mom again! Murphy-played in his best position, and was outstanding.on the ball, heading, tackling were first class and what a goal! Joyce-always looking for the ball, and linked attack and defence. Proccy-Still dont think attacking siuts his game, but covered loads of ground. Craney-rotated with fletcher and almond, and never went missing, good game. Fletcher-the more i see him, the better he gets.good touch and turn of pace, looked dangerous when up top. Almond-struggled at first when up top,but more effective when dropping deeper. sub-Coid for deano-great to see him come on,good touch but way off match fitness Really enjoyed the game, and was pleased the gaffer continularly rotated craney, fletch and almond, which stopped us being predictable and rigid. Only negative was the five hour journey home!!!:) |

Its refreshing to read a match report by the opposition, which is un-biased and honest.
He saw the game as i did and Acci were very good for 70 mins and then solid for the last 20. Not many coming forward to praise Murphy, come on lads, credit were its due,he was great today !!!! |
Re: The better start an Oxford thread this Millenium thread
Murphy seems to be getting steadier and growing in confidence with the first team, cracking goal yesterday, fair play to the lad

Re: The better start an Oxford thread this Millenium thread
Delighted for him. Never really rated him at full back, though.

And sorry, but I disagree with you about Craney. |
Re: The better start an Oxford thread this Millenium thread
sorry revived red,you did say he had a good game.
Regarding craney,i thought he put more effort in yesterday than previous weeks(maybe getting fitter),indeed he was left on the whole game. Not everything came off for him,but you can see what hes trying to do,and the spinning off his man, beating 3 defenders and forcing a decent save in the first-half was quality. Not long before he hits top form, can sense it is coming:) |
