Re: The 'what a stupid title for a thread v Aldershot' thread.
Not at all I live in Massachusetts where the Redsox play and Stanley play in red socks so only my attempt at a play on words , as a sports fan who always ends up following crap teams for baseball I ended up as a Chicago Cubs fan having lived there for a few years

Re: The 'what a stupid title for a thread v Aldershot' thread.
The 'Cubs'. Saw a telly prog. 'Undercover Boss' where it featured the owner of the Cubs going 'undercover' with his staff. Don't think Rob Hey could get away with it at Stanley...

Re: The 'what a stupid title for a thread v Aldershot' thread.
Felt like a pre-season friendly it was that hot :)
Massively pleased with a win, though a draw was probably a fair result, I dont envy those Shots fans travelling all the way back after losing. ;) Make no mistake we are still making some mistakes at the back, though Rankine (9) for them was a thorn in Hessey's and Long's side all game. Coid again for me looks a class apart, though I reckon he is 50% fit at the most, as is Fletcher who looked knackered after 45 minutes, not surprising with the heat. Most positive aspect for me for the 1st time in AGES was Craney who I thought had a very good second half!! Barnett's goal.......... what a strike :) Really pleased for him, and hopefully he can force his way into the starting XI, as for me he is a big asset when fit. Thought we had blown it when Amond missed that sitter, but the goal was a game winner!!! Looking at the league table is amazing, 1 win seperating 9th and 18th!! Just shows anybody can beat anybody else!! Really looking forward to the pie & peas again on Tuesday, hopefully Coley can shuffle the pack abit and give Bavs, Bender, Guthrie, Taylor etc a run out :) On Stanley On! |
Re: The 'what a stupid title for a thread v Aldershot' thread.
Talk about a game of two halves!!,Acci first half were below average to say the least, and struggled to cope with there two big forwards,we played too deep and with the heat and bobbly pitch struggled.
Saying that they created a few good chances and Fletcher should have buried that early chance. A lot of credit should go to the coachs at half-time as they come out a different team. Craney started influencing the game and got in there faces. I also thought the subs were made at the right time and was really pleased for charlie who looked like he was up for it. All in all we will forget about the first half and remember the result !!! |
Re: The 'what a stupid title for a thread v Aldershot' thread.
First half we were woeful distribution was all over the place and the Shots ran the show so much so it was like watching an away game.
Second half we started to slowly click and as Smudgie & F19 say Craney started to influence the game and as the half wore on we probably just about shaded it. Three points a very welcome relief but it's almost at times that the players are not sure where they should be playing with the current system? A great strike by Charlie to win the game:) |
Re: The 'what a stupid title for a thread v Aldershot' thread.
Got to say that I enjoyed the day yesterday! Proud to be there for Procs 400th game, nice of The Ultras to acknowledge the milestone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good game of footy, between 2 good, honest footballing Teams/Clubs :) Sun in October  Treated a mate of mine - Shots FAN - to a hospitality package and I have to say that result aside, he had a great day and was looked after superbly by the Club, well done Rob, Mark, Rob and everybody else involved!! Good game of footy, 1-0 down, 2-1 down, but we showed guts and determination to clinch it with a super strike from Charlie Boy!!! Think that Craney was my M-O-M, second half he was superb and how he managed 90 mins in that heat is unbelievable    To me, that is now the bench mark and we must continue to play in that vein and maintain the results!! Almost forgot, what a strike by Hess    :) :) :) |
Re: The 'what a stupid title for a thread v Aldershot' thread.
Murdoch - Off day for Sean. Nervous coming for crosses and made some mistakes, made one good save though. Coley visibly unimpressed. Think Bavs will start Tuesday.
Murphy - Calm, composed and effective. I think full back is his best position. Very good game Pete, well done. Hessey - Great game. Rallied the troops, showed great distribution and scored a cracking goal. Man of the match for me. Long - Had a tough fight against Rankine but won on points. Again composed. These solid performances have become the norm for big Kev. McIntyre - Struggling to think of positives. He did make a few decent challenges and fired in a couple of difficult crosses for the Shots to think about, but he leaves us so vulnerable in his area of that pitch. Eager to get forward but lacking pace and the defensive mindset to get back. Murph on the right and Deano on the left please Mr C. Procter - 400th appearance not a flashy one by any means (though could've been had that volley gone in) but a good graft against a talented Aldershot midfield. Joyce - Shots won the midfield battle in the first half but we took over in the second. Luke broke up and linked play well. Always available. Coid - Not fully fit but clearly a different class. Reads the game better than any of our lads; probably better than anyone in this league. Here's hoping he can get to 100%. That attacking position is good for him. Craney - Showed in the second half what we've been craving from him this season. Grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and became the focal point for our play. Build on this Ian. Amond - Podge struggled really. Looked a bit off the pace and missed that sitter. Didn't step up with the rest in the second half. Just an off day. Fletcher - Looked bright and threatening early on but tired far too quickly. An injury or just the heat, I don't know. Hope he gets back to his best on Tuesday. Subs Barnett, Lindfield and Guthrie played really well. Charlie obviously scored a quality goal but Kurtis and Craig both looked threatening. Encouraging signs there. Real game of two halves. Comical defending in the first half for both teams and some top goals. Can understand why Coley didn't enjoy it but I loved it. We showed great character coming from behind twice. Think the main thing is to build on this and definitely improve the way we start games. The progression is clear for all to see though. Good stuff Accy. |

Re: The 'what a stupid title for a thread v Aldershot' thread.
Bit of a tangent but does anyone know why people from the Clayton End aren't allowed in the supporters lounge before games but people in the Main Stand are?

Re: The 'what a stupid title for a thread v Aldershot' thread.
Good report that Shaker, and agree with most of it.
The items I disagree with are Murphy - Had a decent game, drew great confidence from his goal last week, but still think hes a holding midfielder in the making (beware proccy) Hessey - Although vocal,I thought he had his"puma crowd finder boots" on,as his first ten passes, nine were either picked off or ended in the crowd. He got bullied for the second goal, conceeded what i thought was a penalty(dragged there man down) and was reluctant to push up,despite the coaches screaming at him. I am a fan of his,but in the first half,he looked tired( the heat i presume),but came into it in the second half. McIntyre - lets not forget hes a midfielder filling in,thought he did ok Proccy-looked lost in the first half, and the game bypassed him.He seemed to come alive when we eventually when 4-4-2,and his work-rate was more rewarded. Other than that Shaker,I agree with your comments |
Re: The 'what a stupid title for a thread v Aldershot' thread.
in the sunday mirror, Murphy and craney in the league two team of the week

Re: The 'what a stupid title for a thread v Aldershot' thread.
I think Bav's was always starting Tuesday anyway regardless of Saturday shaker.
Im hoping Coley can freshen it up a little to be honest. |

Re: The 'what a stupid title for a thread v Aldershot' thread.
Fair comments them Shaker,Although I would like to see McIntyre given a run out in midfield (tonight would have been ideal, say along side Charlie, but it wont happen).
Like most midfielders playing at fullback, they normally have to find half a yard of pace when defending, and Murphy seems to have twigged this and looked comfortable on saturday(instead of trying to kick them up in the air !!!,),although no-one really got at him. Good defenders are not bothered at being left one on one,but sometimes a midfielder playing there likes to bomb on and gets caught out,Murphy on saturday didnt, and picked his runs(quietly impressed by his decison making) |
