Re: New Keeper

I've seen a lot of reserves games over the last three years , and I've been excited by one or two new players . . but unfortunately goalkeepers have been as rare as rocking-horse droppings. Danny Alcock is the exception. He's always impressed when he's appeared at the Gt. Harwood Showground , and I'm delighted that he's now showing what he's capable of in the Stanley's 1st team.

So you don't get many goalkeepers of that quality coming up through the ranks, and that's why I believe our signing of Ikeme is very opportune.

Like other contributors to this thread, I'm generally suspicious of the proliferation of "on-loan" players ; I've seen it become the downfall of Halifax Town, for example.

This is different. You have to grab a good goalie when you can, and I'm sure that this is the right move for Stanley at this time.

Let's all welcome the lad at the earliest opportunity.

Strange for Danny, though, that he's the elder statesman already !

Re: New Keeper

Stanleyman seems to be right (that's a first!) a youth team keeper would be a good idea except the fact he may not hack the pressure that may be placed on him. Stanley can gain promotion if they seriously tighten the defence up and a young 'un may get stick if he can't make the grade from the start. Loan players though are a good thing, they can add a bit of extra quality to a squad if the nimbers are low. As for moral, a fresh face can add a bit of energy. Players already in the squad shouldn't assume they can stroll in the team in someone's long term absence. A loan signing adds more pressure making players work harder for a place.

Re: New Keeper

the decision to drop danny for the aldershot game must have been a real kick in the teeth for him

i gather he was only told during the warm up for the game

i was at the game against hereford and thought he did well in difficult conditions

especially the save in the first 5 minutes

he knew coleman would bring in another keeper and would accept that

but the way it was handled could have been more professional

good luck to adam as he looks the part and was steady enough against the shots

lets hope danny can get his chin up and reclaim his place
