Dagenham Match Thread................
Seeing as nobody started 1...........................

Re: Dagenham Match Thread................
At half time I was getting ready to write our obituary tonight as we were looking the worse of two relegation candidates. Second half was a complete turnaround as we began to find some cohesion and basic technique. A fine goal from Lindfield was followed by a much needed double substitution which had the desired effect, although, to be honest, the Daggers could easily have been 3-1 up before Amond's double. Micah Evans was my M.O.M., causing havoc throughout the match, and should have had 2 early goals which his speed and positional awareness brought. The big lad from Bournemouth needs to be sent right back, and we were much better for him being subbed. Brilliant work from Charlie to set up Paddy's first goal.

Re: Dagenham Match Thread................
Think I must've been at a different game to you Redraine!
Dagenham were the worst team I've seen us play in a long while, and though we weren't creating many chances in the first half I thought we dominated throughout. I was always confident we'd get the win. Again we defended well, Hughes and Joyce dictated the play in midfield and all we lacked was a bit of luck in the final third. I thought we'd win convincingly after the first ten minutes and I'm glad we got what we deserved. |
Re: Dagenham Match Thread................
You were watching a different game, Shaker. We were extremely fortunate not to concede at least three goals in the second half. The other thing I forgot was:- how come we can't take decent corners any more? In the first half especially we opted for the useless pass-back to an approaching full back, whereupon their defence moved up and all our attackers had to beat a hasty retreat to stay onside for the resultant cross. Did we not learn anything from the Macc game, where their pacy. head high corner was thumped into our net by a fast moving defender?

Re: Dagenham Match Thread................
Well abit of a stop-start game for me. Agreed with Shaker, thought the Daggers where rather a poor side, especially in the 1st 45 minutes, though to be honest we where not much better!! Similar to Macc away last weekend in the 1st half, dominated most of the possession with not alot of end product.
Talk about a turn around in the second half, from both teams. Hessey & Long again for me MOM's, I really hope we can keep Kev beyond January :( , he is fast developing into a quality Center Back ! Great to see Craig FINALLY score a League goal for us, hopefully he can continue his form into the next game. As well as Paddy, lucky tash and boots I think there :) Another assist by Barnett :) Roll on the Wombles away, gutted Im not going :( No game next week is crap, why they couldent have arranged the Hereford away game for next week is beyond me !! |
Re: Dagenham Match Thread................
To be fair Redraine, on more than one occasion Daggers had all eleven of their players in their box defending the corner. In that instance it makes sense to pass to a full back and try and draw out some of their players, hereby making space in the box for when a cross comes in. I'm a proponent of short corners so can't agree on that one!
At the other end of the field we really need to keep working on defending set-pieces as we look nervous. The goal line clearance aside I don't think they really threatened us at all and can't remember them putting two passes together. Poor side. |
Re: Dagenham Match Thread................
I'm in the same camp, thought we dominated first 45, without a goal, if we had been 2 up at half time woulda been a fair reflection to me, the subs were needed, the water on pitch knackered a few of em no doubt at all to me, Mcintyre fer me is greatly improved of late, Both of our scorers today will hopefully take great confidence n kick on, agree Daggers were certainly nowt to write home about, but yeh still gotta score em, over all well pleased today.:) I do agree about corners, a wet pitch screams out fer a low ball into the box in my view, not these rubbish/wasted short corners.

Re: Dagenham Match Thread................
I also agree about Kev Mac.
Thought he had his best game in a red shirt today. |
Re: Dagenham Match Thread................
Yep, thirded. Well done Kev. He has come on a long way, which is probably helped by getting better protection in front of him these days.

Re: Dagenham Match Thread................
No, fair point. Sometimes we're too patient and not direct enough, so getting the ball into the mixer would improve that side of our game. It does seem somewhat unfashionable these days to just 'get it in the box'. However when we're on top, as I thought we were for the whole of the game today, then I'd much rather the lads kept possession.

Re: Dagenham Match Thread................
We WON 3-0
Thats ALL that matters :) |
Re: Dagenham Match Thread................
Look, smudgie, when we win 3-0 it's really difficult to find something to moan about. So give us this yeh? Bloody corner routines...
Coley out. |

I concur, bloody awful result, why couldn't they let Daggers score 1 goal right at the end, Stanley screwed up my perfect day today |
Re: Dagenham Match Thread................
From my viewpoint......3-0 was highly flattering for Stanley :o
I agree with the points made by both Coley & others without " red tinted spectacles " that we rode our luck at 1-0 up. There was one instance at 1-0 up where I was dumfounded that Daggers didn't level. Probably one of the best examples of a "goalmouth scramble" that we've ended up on the right side of for quite a while !!! Dagenham have to be one of the poorest sides I've seen at the Crown for a while now....and that's discounting when we properly "steamrollered" sides last season and more to the point, sides that we beat comfortably in preceeding seasons.:( We lack a cutting edge and killer instinct that we had last season....:o The game yesterday was on a knife edge up until the second goal....after that, You could see their heads drop (understandably so as that meant eight straight defeats for them ) I'm still non-plussed by the formation...call me too critical, but they were woefull at the back yesterday !!! Admittedly 3 goals, but that, If ever I saw one, was a side there for the taking !!! Two up front and we'd have probably got six...as they were one of the worst defences I've seen at the Crown for years !!!! My concerns about us coming up against big " Exodus" were unfounded....the bloke spent the majority of his time running about warming up in front of me and chatting to another sub!!!:o Fair enough...well chuffed for Padraig Amond and quite pleased that the two goals finished them off, lowered my tension, got the three points, blah, blah, blah, but to me any talk of play offs ( and better ) is quite ludicrous !!! God knows, I'd love us to be up in the mix again this season, but without a resounding improvement, there's no way that would that happen !!! I did not / do not expect it to happen ( although it would be fabulous if we could climb up to those dizzy heights again!!) although what I'm about to say now may be deemed as pessimistic!!!:hidewall: 23 points now...ten clear of the drop... another 30 points as soon as possible and I'll be happy:o We've lost half of that fabulous side of last term....mid table mediocrity would be perfectly palatable for me....anything after that would be miraculous!!! Although with Coley and Bell at the helm... anything is possible!!! |
Re: Dagenham Match Thread................
Enjoyed the game yesterday, which was played in tricky conditions.
The playing surface was quality despite the rain,so well done to those in charge. The game went more or less the way we thought( i pedicted 3-0 lol). They arent a bad side, and on paper, will give most teams a good game, the difference at the moment is "confidence". We have had that drawing games, they are now on a losing run. After playing extra time on thursday,i waited for them to tire and run out of steam, and they didnt disappoint. Acci did the basics well,ie defending and closing down, they were negative upto the goal, despite there cf cunnington being a real handful for Longy. When we scored they pushed men forward and opened the game up(like we did at Macc),but didnt take there chances. This in turn created space for people like micah to influence the game, which he did. Un-sung hero today was proccy.Although he was playing in the three,he was everywhere, both in getting forward, and breaking up play, this sometimes goes un-noticed(could be getting back to his best). This graft allows others to play. Cant agree about some comments on stockley,i thought he had a good game, and some of his movement wasnt rewarded,he also give us a physical presence. Three points in the bag and we move on:) |
