Aldershot Town Match Thread
Might as well get one started!! :) picked this up off the shots web site...
The Shots will be hoping to pick up their first points of 2012, as Accrington Stanley visit the EBB Stadium Aldershot Town vs Accrington Stanley Saturday 21st January EBB Stadium 15:00 Team News -Shots The Shots have been hit by injury problems, with forward Michael Rankine (leg) and winger Alex Rodman (viral infection) set to miss the rest of the season. Some good news for Dean Holdsworth is that that centre-back Chris Doig, should be fit to play after recovering from a hamstring problem. The Aldershot manager could also hand full debuts to Charlie Collins and Josh Payne. One player who will not be available for the Shots is Jermaine McGlashan, after he moved to fellow League Two side Cheltenham Town on Friday. Team News –Accrington Stanley Accrington with out captain Andy procter who made the switch to Npower league 1 side Preston North End yesterday could hand debuts to both Michael Smith and Liam Willis for the clash at the EBB. Smith, who is on loan from League One Charlton and former Wigan defender Willis joined Stanley earlier this week. Form Shots -It has been a frustrating period for the Shots, without a win in their last five. Last week they went down to promotion chasing Cheltenham Town 2-0. Goals either side of half time from Luke Summerfield and Kaid Mohamed were enough to condemn Dean Holdsworth’s men to their 14th league defeat of the season. Aldershot Town are in 16th place in League Two. Accrington – Stanley have been in good form of late. Even though in their last outing they went down 3-0 at home to the hands of Barnet, that was their first league defeat in ten games. John Coleman’s men are just two points of the play-offs and if results go their way they could be as high as sixth come 5pm of Saturday. Last Meeting -Accrington Stanley 3-2 Aldershot Town – 1st October 2011 It was quite a game when the team last met back in October. The Shots took the lead through Danny Hylton before Sean Hessey struck back for the hosts just four minutes later. Dean Holdsworth’s men again took the lead, and again through Hylton, this time after the striker headed home from an Alex Rodman corner. The visitors couldn’t hold onto their lead and Accrington and drew level through Danny Coid. With just two minutes of normal time remaining Charie Barnett grabbed the winner for the hosts. |
Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread

Coley seems reluctant to play him for some reason, the lad ooze's class whenever ive seen him.
To be fair I think they all had shockers last week. How Coid is on the bench is beyond me at the moment. |
Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
Hope smudgies team is picked, although I suspect same as barnet with coid coming in at rb and murph in middle
|
Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
Funny yeh should say Barnett, smudge, i was only saying the same to sparkie yesterday morning, before we knew owt about Proccy leaving.:) doubt if that will be the case though.

Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
I like Barnett, he just seems to blow abit hot & cold.
Though Craney is nowhere near match fit yet, so no way he should start. |

Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
I suppose the good news from the other side is that Jermaine McGlashan (from what I've seen, their main threat) has been sold to Cheltenham.
Unsure as to the line-up and not really bothered. I don't see any name on the team sheet and think "oh no, not him"; I think we have stronger strength in depth this season than last. I guess the major test will be how the players react to losing the captain in such a bizarre fashion, but our experienced heads should be able to step up to the mark. |

Even Jamie Clarke managed a hat trick :)
I'm sure he's capable, but his journeyman record is extremely hit and miss. As I said though we'll need to watch out. Mainly because our own defence isn't settled at the moment. |

Well done today lads, good away point.
Hopefully turn it into 3 next Saturday :) |
Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
I don't often go first, but it was a home game for me .....
For a first game not knowing how we play, Smith looked OK and should pose a threat in the air. Won one cross easily but got under it. Good work rate on the ground. As long as we don't go back to route one just 'cos he's there ..... Overall pretty scrappy but some good confident quick passing around triangles - maybe too confident as tended to end in giving the ball away. Lost a lot of 50-50s in midfield with the exception of Coid who was my m-o-m. They were hopeless in our box which helped us to survive a few scrambles. No mistakes by Dunbavin as far as I could see, bar a couple of dodgy clearances under pressure from loose backpasses. Winnard did a good job with the armband and was very steady. Toto wasn't .... Amond worked his socks off. Barnett nearly won it in the last couple of minutes with what would have been one of the goals of the week. But it would have been a steal. Good food and beer at the Golden Lion. Accy attendance announced as 87. All in all, a grand day out!! |
Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
Good points by Chimer, Smith did a good job up front and can only get better - like the look of him!!
Murph in midfield, Craig and Charlie on the bench - says it all to me!!!!!!!!!!! Deano was great at the back and Podge was tireless upfront!! Good point away from home, must get back to 3 at home!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
Just got back from the game and I am going to disagree with chimer (sorry!),thought the swirling wind played a big part in the game, they had it behind them in the first half and had the better of a scrappy game.thought Cody and pudge were off the pace,in particular when defending.
To be fair they played at an high tempo and pressed us all over the pitch, but as they tired we took control in the second half It was obvious Hughes wasn't fully fit and struggled to get in the game and this put us at a bit of a disadvantage Now the positives, toto took on board his short comings of last week to give a muched improved performance, and over all the team never stopped trying, even when things weren't going there way. Draw was a fair result, and considering the off field distractions, and various players carrying injuries,I would settle for a point |

Charlie spent 15 mins on the pitch yesterday and looked good - 25 yarder in last couple of mins, could have won it!!!! - I do not need to tell you about Charlie ;) No doubt we will be discussing this at half time on Saturday?? :) :) |
Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
To me it makes sense to put Murphy in midfield in Proccy's absense; he adds height to the middle and works hard up and down the pitch. We need that balance in the midfield I think.
It's a shame for Charlie though as he's a quality player. The headache will only worsen when we have Hughes, Craney, Barnett, Joyce, Coid and Murphy all fully fit and available for a three-man midfield! He'll just have to keep working hard and impressing when he does get to play so he can push for a starting spot. It's a shame for Craig also. He's been one of our best players this season in my view yet missed out to Evans yesterday. I haven't been overly impressed with Micah but you can't really drop a player who has been in there getting the messy goals. It's a good headache to have as we have great strength in depth this season, as well as versatility among the players, which can only aid our bid for better things. |
Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
It was a strange one with Murph.I believe he will become a good holding midfielder, but Joycy seemed to be doing that role, although he did his job defensively.
Agree Charlie is better going forward, and I would have played Linfield instead of Podge, the reason being IMHO hes a better wideman, but Podge is a better front man. Thought mcintyre had another solid game against a tricky winger as well. |
Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
Agree 100% with you Shaker
|
Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
Chuffed that Coid is back in, he along with Hughes are that bit of extra class we need.
A nice problem for Coley to have agreed. Squad does look a little bit short of that spark off the bench, but what can we do, not alot I suppose~!!! Bring on Gillingham I say. |
Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
But Murphy cant pass for toffee! He cant even tackle at best! Yeh he would be a big presense in midfield but thats all. Stick Joyce in the middle and stick craney just above him.
|
Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
Agree with you smudge,Coidy is a class player, just think yesterday, especially in the first half, they targeted him when attacking.Think this maybe due to being a little rusty, but there were no problems when he was going forward, which is were he excels.
Whoever plays in front of him, needs to be focused, and cover for him,so no gaps appear. Got better as the game went on |
Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
The BBC Weather website is currently predicting a low of -2 Celsius for Friday night / Saturday morning. That's 1.5 Celsius less than was predicted the night before the Aldershot game.
Hopefully lessons have been learnt and the covers will be used. If it's a question of manpower, I'm sure an appeal on here would do the trick. |
Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
Of course this is in the wrong thread. It was the Barnet game that was spoiled be frozen areas of the pitch!
Th point still holds though. |
