Prediction League - Special Case
Players will be aware that on Tuesday there was an entry posted by Stanleyhouse, timed at 7.48, which correctly forecast a 1-1 draw.
Chimer and I have discussed the position that creates, since the "rule" is that predictions must be made before the deadline, which is "scheduled kick-off time" ie in this case, 7.45 pm. "Rules is rules", but we believe, here, that there are some extenuating circumstances which we should take into account; 1. The post was 3 mins late, actually 2 mins after kick off 2. There was no advantage gained - if there had been a goal, for example, there would be no question of the guess being accepted 3. This was a very short-lived thread (about 36 hours) 4. There are reasons why the person concerned - who was, I understand, at the game - may have been a moment or two "late" in posting Our view is that any such situation - and this is a 'first' for us - should be decided on a 'case by case' basis; ie there shouldn't be a hard and fast, "that's it" rule. The spirit of the game is "for fun", and there isn't (at the moment, anyway) a prize this year ........... On careful consideration we are minded, on the facts we have, to allow the guess to stand as though it were 'in time'; if anybody is really unhappy with that view, please pm me or Chimer, and we'll listen, and consider any points made very carefully ......... If nobody objects, then we'll confirm the preliminary ruling as soon as we can. Can I make clear that Stanleyhouse hasn't made any contact or 'representations' to either of us; what we know comes from other very trustworthy sources ... We hope you'll agree that that's fair, and reflects the spirit of the game. I know I was hacked off a couple of years ago when I was the only person who got a score right (3-0 over Bournemouth) and it wasn't allowed to stand because I'd put Us 3 Them 0 :mad::mad: ....... Which is partly why we changed that rule, so that - if we know you - you can put "The Reds", rather than "Accrington Stanley" :) One more thing; Chimer's having problems getting to his "it works the answers out for him" computer :D, so I understand that it might get end of the week before he can update the League table .......:o |

Re: Prediction League - Special Case
Sounds OK to me.
I also think that even if I forget to post it should be taken as a 2 1 win to stanley because I almost always predict 2 1 to stanley :D |
Re: Prediction League - Special Case
Thanks to everyone who's offered their thoughts. Everyone has taken the sporting view, in the spirit of the Predication League, and both Chimer and I appreciate your comments, and your endorsement of our decision.
Accordingly, Stanleyhouse's prediction for the Bradford game will be accepted as though 'in time'. :) He has therefore got 5 points for his guess. Which is more than I've managed all season ............. :o Thank you to everyone ............;) |
