Morecambe Match Thread................

Well after Saturday I am much more confident of getting a result.

Come on the reds!!!

My team........... Same as Saturday but with Hatfield in, Murphy on the bench.

But no doubt Cooky will keep the same, as he has every right to do.

Bring it on :)

Surely not   ;)

Agree with Smudgie, start with Will and maybe Craig, rest Bobby as it is 2 games quickly and he has not been playing in recent weeks!!

:)

Re: Morecambe Match Thread................

No chance I would rest Bobby, he is a danger man.

Maybe take him off after an hour if he is tired :)

I agree Cashy..The only way to ensure that the team continues to improve is to have them playing together at every possible opportunity...
Really looking forward to a great evening filled with good football...some needle..and three more points for Paul and the lads !!!.

I agree with Smudgie, Hatfield for Murphy from the start. Maybe even consider swapping Bobby G for Lindfield or Guthrie as I thought he looked jaded on Saturday. otherwise same team. Either way, heres hoping for a win against the shrimpers ( I know it gets morecambe fans going):)

Pleased with a point - unbeaten in five and takes us to the magic 50 points.

End of play-off dream though with Oxford winning.

Re: Morecambe Match Thread................

Well I thought a draw was probably a fair result. 1st half we battered them, Grant & Devitt yet again the danger men. :)

Didnt think 1-0 was going to be enough and so it proved, unfortunately yet another defensive mistake from either toto or Nicholls :( , depending on how you look at it. We have to remember they have only played 20 games between them. Disappointing though.

As soon as Grant & Devitt in particular started running out of steam, so did our outlets, and as a result we got overun in Midfield. Not sure what Joyce kept moaning about, he was lucky to stay on the pitch. Wish he would keep his mouth shut and concentrate on the game.

MOM for me was Roach in goal. 3 great saves, including that in the second half which was magnificent. Fair play to him for putting up with the stick and playing like that. Two fingers up to those clowns giving him stick I reckon.

Only down side was the rendition of the "Jim Harvey" song............ was it really needed after the incident at White Hart Lane on Saturday??? Just shows how many brain cells are being displayed in the so called "Ultras" nowadays. Whatever happened to the magnificent tributes to the likes of Bobby Robson and Keith Alexander. A section of them really do need to take a look at themselves.

Nice to keep the Morecambe hoodoo still :)

Onward & Upward.

Re: Morecambe Match Thread................

Game of 2 halves, Roche for me MoM outstanding display, Fer me its time to rest Barnett, even though Morecambe had the better second half, I still thought we had the best chances, Was good to see Stanley shooting on site, a big change from trying to pass it into the net,as in past times, overall disappointed we never took 3 pts, but pleased we are now 5 unbeaten, onwards n upwards.

Re: Morecambe Match Thread................

Good summary Smudgie. Couldn't agree more about the young idiots behind the Clayton End abusing Roche - GROW UP. The match statistics showing our 25 shots on goal(17 on target), against Morecambe's 15 (7 on target) don't really reflect the run around they gave us in the second half, although we lapsed into our default defence panic under pressure mode by hoofing out or presenting them with the ball. Having said that, they really didn't carve out any meaningful chances despite their good possession. An entertaining game, and a fair result. I just wish Craney hadn't wastefully gone for glory twice at the end instead of using his better placed team mates. Very poor!

One of those near the end was Barnett, He should have squared the ball wi 2 forwards waiting.

Maybe - eyesight's not as good as it used to be.

Re: Morecambe Match Thread................

A fair result in the end, but you really battered us in the first 45 and we were lucky to go in 1-0 with still all to play for in the second half, and so it proved.

Liked the look of both your forward loanees, but I'd be worried if and when the rules concerning loanees change.

Have to say that your manager never shut up throughout but the majority of it was lost in translation due to a throat infection?;) However he's obviously in the process of changing your style which I've always admired.

Only consultation for me is that you are still below us but you've a game in hand!

Thought the first 45 mins are the best ive seen from Stanley, If that standard can be maintained fer 90, theres no-body to touch em in league 2.

Don't worry, C.C. I'm sure Cooky will take it in his stride.

Unless I missed anything particularly offensive, I think that giving the keeper stick is par for the course. It's part of football, and as long as they take it in their stride and have a laugh with it (thinking Roberts as an example), it's all part of the fun. IMO.

As for the Jimmy Harvey song, I couldn't agree more. I couldn't quite believe people had gone along with that with the timing as it is.

As for the match, as others have said - game of two halves. We were brilliant in the first half but one goal was never going to be enough. They were always going to come at us in the second half and we ended up second best apart from one or two late efforts. Still think we're heading in the right direction. :)

Don't know about that, Red. Seeing kids of about 12 giving the 'W' gesture and shouting the appropriate word makes me sick, for one.

I can understand that, to be fair. I'm not overly fond of it myself, but it'd be hypocritical of of me to correct them as I'm not exactly a great role model in that area. I still stand by my post however from an adult giving stick point of view.

Re: Morecambe Match Thread................

Certainly was a game of two halves, but I can't remember Nicholls having a save to make in the second half. I thought we defended very well and looked very compact, which made Morecambe shoot from range or try to get around us along the wings, which they only managed a couple of times. It did mean that we hoofed it up field to no-one in that half, but when we broke with the ball we were very impressive.

A very encouraging display, even though we were wasteful in front of goal (and Roche made some great saves). For the second game in a row, the away team only scored because of a central defensive howler. My man of the match: Danny Coid.

That doesn't surprise me. I wasn't there last night but, on Saturday, I thought Danny had an outstanding match.

For me personally, Coidy could still be playing for Blackpool if it wasnt for injuries.

No doubt he is a massive asset.

Praying he stays fit till the end of the campaign :)

Re: Morecambe Match Thread................

I agree with most of the summing up. Roche made some great saves late on as Bobby Grant looked to be really relishing being back at Stanley. He was very unlucky not have got a goal towards the end of the match. It is great to see Grant and Devitt attacking down both wings and firing the ball in with speed. Bobby's whipped in corners were much better than we have seen for some time too. The defence looked much more solid apart from the mix up between Toto and Nicholls. Apart from that Toto had a great game and Nicholls tipped one over the bar superbly in the first half in front of the Clayton end. We seemed to lose the battle of the midfield in the second half and consequently we defended far too deep. We still seem to need a battling, enforcer in the midfield which we have not had since Procky left. Charlie and Luke Joyce are very similar in the way that they play creatively but they both seem to be a bit inconsistent with their passing at the moment. However, Charlie made some good runs down the left wing towards the end. I think that the team are gradually developing the way that Cooky wants them to play. With a bit more tweaking in midfield I think that we could finish the season well and I hope we can get into the top half. I think a play off position is too long a shot now though.
Come on Stanley.

Re: Morecambe Match Thread................

Great advert for League Two Football last night with the definative game of two halves

First half Stanley cut through Morecambe with relative ease with a high tempo pass & move game that was simply scintillating and the Shrimps were on the ropes while Stanley looked for the knockout blow but despite our endeavour we needed that second goal but credit to the Shrimps they changed their shape second half and came back at Stanley but we still looked a threat on the counter but looked tired towards the end which was hardly surprising given the tempo of the game.

Overall a draw was probably a fair result

Credit to the Ref I thought he was one of the best we have had at the Crown for a while tried to let the game flow and took no nonsense.
