Out Of Contract Players

I've just been reading the preview for tomorrow's match and I took special note of one of Cooky's quotes:

"A lot of lads are playing for contracts whether they think it or not. We've only got two contracted players for next season so if anyone wants to get their slippers on and relax they won't be sleeping in our bed."

A good strong stance, and something I like to hear. However, it's got me thinking about all the players who are out of contract at the end of the season and I'm wondering everyone's thoughts... who do we think will be staying or going? Who has earned a new contract and who do we think may be let go?

Any thoughts? :smile8:

Re: Out Of Contract Players

As for the first team squad now.......... Minus all the loan's going back of course, we have these lads left....

2. Danny Coid...... Gone I fear with the injury :(
3 DF Dean Winnard (captain) (Already signed up)
4 DF Sean Hessey (Hopefully stays)
7 FW Craig Lindfield (Has been ALOT better but still needs to improve for me)
8 MF Charlie Barnett (See Lindfield)
9 FW Kurtis Guthrie (Has been unlucky but I fear he is gone)
10 MF Ian Craney (Terrible injury record, time to go for me)
11 MF Luke Joyce (Already signed)
12 DF Peter Murphy (Alot better this year and versatile, keep)
14 MF Kevin McIntyre (Sign him up again, great second half to the season)
15 MF Alan Burton (Never fit, time to go )
18 DF Liam Willis (Decent young player, keep, but I fear Cooky doesnt rate)
24 MF Ryan Hopper (Good young talent, keep)
25 GK Ian Dunbavin (Good servent, but time to move on for Bavs)
27 MF Bryan Hughes (Hopefully we can keep him)
30 MF Will Hatfield (Cooky says he staying, good news)
- DF Leam Richardson................... Retired????

My humble opinion anyway.

As for potential signings, who knows??

Would love to see us sign the likes of Grant, Amond & Devitt, though I fear all are out of our price range :(

From what I've seen, Cook rates Kurtis. With a good pre-season and a fresh start, who knows what may come of him.

Stanleymad 30-03-2012 13:10

Re: Out Of Contract Players

Kurtis needs to beef up & have footballing mentality - if that happens he's staying if no chance after set time to change then he's gone, that's what I gathered from cookys last night.

He just needs a bit of a cuddle :D

Re: Out Of Contract Players

I just think Kurtis has been unlucky.

If the "goal" he scored at Northampton on the opening day had been given, IF his screamer away at Plymouth had gone in................. We could have a player on our hands.

If only that 'goal' at Northampton hadn't been disallowed...

Absolutely. Confidence is such a crucial variable in football that can make or break even the best of players. The Football League has sent many players off to Sunday league never to return, not because they didn't have the talent, but because their mentality wasn't right. Hopefully Kurtis won't be one of them. It's up to him, though.

So it happens! yeh need the mentality to put it behind yeh, If thats a reason,Kurtis aint got it yet, Lets hope he can beef up n acquire it.

I'd love my lad to come back to Stanley. I'm sure there'll be a right back spot up for grabs at The Crown net season. can't see it though, If he doesn't get another deal at Macc it will be probably be somewhere else in the Blue Square. That's exactly where Macc Town are heading.

The first half of last season, before it went t1ts up at Bury with the sending off, was the best time I've ever had watching him play.

Cooky did say he would get a run out this season, presumably they will take it from there.

Re: Out Of Contract Players

Going to be some difficult descions for the management over the next few weeks of who to keep and who to let go, it is probably made more difficult given the injuries to players under contract at the moment who Paul won't have even seen play whilst manager.

Take the loan players out of the squad and there are some that can form the nucleus of next season's squad and others who still need to prove their worth, the spine of the team is the crucial area with a keeper, at least one maybe two central defenders, a box to box midfielder and a proven goal scorer at the very least needed to be added we maybe lucky and get some decent loanees in those areas but there is always the risk of them being called back from their loans which just adds to our problems as seen with some this season.

Going back to the forum on Thursday I think those areas are already under the spotlight for the management and feel from what was said that there is genuine reason for being optimistic that the right players will be brought in and we will see more of Paul & Leam's stamp of attacking football and defending from the front.

I found this snippet of the Barca way which makes interesting reading for any follower of the beautiful game.

Barcelona's secret to soccer success

Re: Out Of Contract Players

It seems Cooky wants 4 or 5 young players that he can slowly bring through, Kurtis being one lf these, Cooky and leam realize he isnt the finished article and leam will be personally working with him to bulk his upper body and see where that takes us next season, But they will be the first to admit if they get it wrong.

I didnt quite catch it on thursday but Cooky did mention Longy showing interest in coming back here...

Would love it Baldy, but really cant see it.

Doenst look like Eddie Howe rates him, but Coley obviously does.

He will be Rochdale's 1st summer signing, more or less guaranteed I reckon.

Would love him back, Plus it would brass a certain ex manager off as well.:D

Re: Out Of Contract Players

Fairly sure Kevin is on contract at the Turf until the end of the 2012-2013 season. If Burnley keep him and send him back out on loan he won't be going to Rochdale next season, thats why he couldn't stay at Stanley, Burnley want him playing at least League 1 football.

I guess the right money in transfer fees may encourage Burnley to part with him though.

Re: Out Of Contract Players

If we see Kevin Long back here, I'll bare my arse in Burton's window. I'm more interested to see how Cook utilises his League of Ireland player knowledge.

Billy Dennehy would be a great target, for instance. Premier League pedigree, been at the club before, league winner in Ireland. He's a quick winger, which is the type of player the gaffer seems to favour going forward.

Money might not be so much of a problem for quality players from Ireland as we have the lure of the English Football League.

He is definatley looking that way. Apparently they only get paid for 38 weeks of the year over there so being paid an annual figure is a lure in itself.

Strangely enough a certain former Stanley international was mentioned by a member of the audience, and it wasn't dismissed

As Shaker say's the Irish links will be a well chosen route and Paul's knowledge I am sure will prove invaluable

Also as pointed out the Football League can be seen as a next step up and different contract timing in Ireland as LD points out.

To be fair Alan,Cooks style of play suits Jons game down to a tee.I don't think people realise how good a centre back he is as well ,Acci should have kept him IMHO as he is very versatile

That said, the player does seem very happy here and grateful to the club for putting a smile back on his face. That can go a long way. Not only that, Cook's positive coaching seems to be working a treat for the entire squad.

I would Kevin Keegan it (love it, just love it) if Podge signed on next season. Quality player, great lad.

Good news about Podge, the lad has a terrific attitude, and seems to have made great mates with the lads in the squad.

He may not be a 20 a goal a season man, but for me is a good addition to the squad.

Question is, will Pacos want a fee.

Phil Jevons has been released from Morecambe - Knocking on a bit, but knows where the goal is and maybe worth looking at for a season or two.

Redraine 09-04-2012 16:59

Re: Out Of Contract Players

Morecambe fans are glad Jevons has gone. The goals dried up after his first season. Not good enough for the Shrimps? Definitely not good enough for us.

I think Padraig has been a real asset to Stanley works hard and does the selfless stuff for the team.

I really do hope there is a way to keep hold of him and I also think we would score more goals with a front two but I am old fashioned when it comes to formation with 4-4-2 every time.

Was interesting to see a couple of Burnley youngsters training at the club yesterday, looks like Cooky is on the player hunt already :)

Not sure about the 4-4-2 thing anymore Pendle, looking at last season playing the 1 front man worked a treat :)

Smudge don't disagree about last season but we played with no real width then more a revolving midfield which weighed in with a lot of goals which with wide players at the moment we have struggled to bag goals.
