Stanley Red Ultras Supporters Club

As most are aware, I've invested/made a few large flags to add to the atmosphere & inject some colour home & away. Now I would like to take it to the next level & am using this forum for ideas / suggestions / opinions.

It is hoped to create a unofficial supporters club with its members made up of away travellers, singers, flag wavers & generally the more vocal supporters. We need a commitee, name, website, aims, forum, membership, etc. Especially need to know what the older regular away travellers think ie Eibo, Loweiy Cammy etc

I will do as I have done with the flags & take the lead but need to know your thoughts on both the concept & the name of the club "Stanley Red Ultras" is my suggestion & I'll be in charge of flags & banners, Mr Kipax will help with all things online but WHAT'D YA THINK.... I'm gonna carry on with more flags but this will give us a presence & some direction..............

All thoughts & opinions gratefully recieved -

Re: Stanley Red Ultras Supporters Club

There's no doubt, Jase, that your enthusiasm and imagination have brought a great deal of colour and excitement to recent matches - in fact (dare I say it?) your banners have been more exciting than some of the football !

However, I honestly don't believe that your success in that particular arena would , of itself , sustain a Club for any reasonable length of time.

So why not bring your flair and originality into the Official Supporters' Club ? We have the infrastructure, the experience and - surely - the shared aim of showing the world what a wonderful thing it is to be a Supporter of Accrington Stanley .

During the past few years, I know, there has been a feeling amongst some fans that the Official Supporters' Club has not been "their" sort of club ; there's been , perhaps , a belief that it's some sort of "Old Men's Club" which is out of touch with today's world. Well, I'd like to assure everyone who reads and contributes to this forum that nothing could be further from the truth !
In recent months there have been some really significant changes to the Club which will, within a very short time indeed, satisfy many of the modernists amongst us without sacrificing the valuable traditions which mean so much to so many.
These changes have been carefully thought through and , I'm pleased to say , have met with the full approval of Eric Whalley when I put them to him following our AGM.

So, before creating any break-away unofficial supporters' club, please let's be patient and see how we can all work together within the Official Accrington Stanley Supporters' Club. I repeat, this enthusiasm which you are showing is truly wonderful . . . let's make sure that we can all be a part of of it. Many Thanks, Steve Baker.

Re: Stanley Red Ultras Supporters Club

I have to agree with Eibo on this it's ok people saying yeah am in but if we are to get things moving it does need a meeting. What do you think J???

loweiy 27-10-2004 08:21

Re: Stanley Red Ultras Supporters Club

Well I think it's a top idea , for a start we can have a travel committe that can take over the running of away trips with folk being able to ring 3 or 4 numbers instead of one it would be a much better system. We can offer discount travel to Ultra members who pledge to travel with us. As for Eric and the Club, we would be by the fans for the fans and I cannot see them having a problem with that. I can see sportsmans dinners to help raise cash for banners and drums, a bonfire night party with a REAL bang and lots of Ultra events to HELP it's club members. The Official club wil still be there to raise funds for the club, and we would raise awairness and support for the fans.
As someone who started the coach and the fans football team I know what one person can do with all the goodwill at Stanley, just think what 10 of us could do!!

STANLEY ULTRAS FOREVER
by the fans for ther fans

Re: Stanley Red Ultras Supporters Club

Jesus, I expect an East Lancs "it'll never work" but yes, a meeting will be great & we can get some ideas on paper.

One of the main aims, was to make the away travel a little easier with the whole of the supporters helping to fill it..... For everybody within the club to be pushing for numbers, to raise funds to subsidise the bus & the FANS, & the flags, & the whole terrace experience.

Like Loweiy says its by the fans & for the fans. It will not though Henry be about competing with the official supporters club, I'm sure that most fans will support both where relevant but our main aims will be terrace related.

Very interesting site from St Patricks in Ireland, a good idea of what can be achieved with similar crowds to us....

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/l.magui...index_jun.html

Also Aberdeen's Ultras group (I'm a distant member)

www.redultras.net

Excellent ideas in fact I nicked the letters idea off them, the site has a good vibe & shows what can be done. Even on a small scale it'll be successful.

http://www.srfc.itgo.com/

http://www.srfcultras.net one of the best looking sites

Shamrock Rovers also.....

Anyone up for having a chat b4 Saturday's game.....

Thats where the ultras movement started in Italy, these days, the term Ultra is more likely to be the guy with the flag & scarf than the boot & fist.....

The name can be changed its the increase in fans & atmosphere that we are hoping for! A common goal of "Accrington Stanley"

Accrington Stanley Supporters Club does not just raise money for the club it also contributes towards the well being of the fans new toilets etc

we already hold discos and party nights

as steve has already mentioned there is a lot of changes planed and being implemented within the ASSC

If some of the people who have posted on this thred botherd to come to our meeings and showed the same enthusiasm for the ASSC im sure that we could have a traved club etc etc

We are hoping to incoporate the Junior reds back under our wing in the near future as at the moment it has become a laughing stock and an embarisment to the club as certain enthusiastic people can not be botherd with it

as to the name ULTRAS ??????????????????????

Already said, I don't care about the name & even without anybody else, I'll still be displaying flags with the help of many of you, Loweiy will still be running buses with the help of No-one. There doesn't have to be a choice...... jesus!

This new supporters "branch" if you like is about the terrace experience, about away travel, about making new songs, about purchasing a new drum stick etc etc. I'm sure if I came to one of your "board meetings" & suggested buying some red material for a flag I'd be laffed out of the place.............FACT!

How about "Budmak's Red Army" as the name.... I'll make a flag in your honour! Man Utd have hundreds of supporters clubs usually aligned to the bus they travel on, so do Celtic etc We are in effect by concentrating on the away travellers, the drummer, the singers making an identity for the people behind the goal who sing, make flags & do drumming

Nobody has to join, mate like I said even without a "name" - I'll make new flags, Loweiy will run buses & pick football teams.........

Im a little disappointed that Mikey and Steve from the "Official Supporters Club" felt they had to come on to scorn the efforts of someone who is trying do something a little different. Jase has come up with a top idea ( only 2 posts say different) and should be knighted in my opinion..........well i'll get him a pint at least!

As Lowiey says, By the fans for the fans! Are the supporters club worried that their numbers will dwindle? Fear ye not Mr Vice Chair and Mr Membership Secretary (i hope thats right Henry) the supporters club have been around for to long for you to worry.

As i mentioned before, and Cammy agreed, the sooner we get a meeting organised the better..........but lets not tell the supporters club, just in case!!!!!!! ( only jokin boys)

Re: Stanley Red Ultras Supporters Club

Although I'm far too ancient to be an Ultra, I think it's a great idea...just the thing to bring some much-needed colour, excitement and passion to the IES - and maybe even attract a few new faces. What's more, there need be no clash between official and unofficial clubs - people can be in both. It's just nice to see a bit of positive thinking after all the negativity of recent weeks.

As for the word Ultras, what's in a name? This is Accy, not Milan!

Chester Red 28-10-2004 08:41

Re: Stanley Red Ultras Supporters Club

I agree with Wynonie, the enthusiam on the Clayton End is infectious, and even though I, too, am far too old to take part, it makes the match special for me. So, all power to Willie Miller for his organising and his flags, and 'Ultras' sounds like a perfectly good name to me, as long as it is about providing great support for the lads on the pitch.

accystankev 28-10-2004 11:47

Re: Stanley Red Ultras Supporters Club

"tacky"

next time Sampdoria, or Milan, or Fiorentina are on TV then have a look at the effect the tacky Ultras have on the pre, current & post match atmosphere, they'll be the ones with the streamers, flares, organised mosaics, huge surfed banners etc

The whole Ultra movement is about the most passionate fans showing their support, spending time, money & much energy on getting the atmosphere on the terrace right.

We could all just sip bovril & mumble to ourselves......

How about then the "Clayton End Reds"............................................. ........

Re: Stanley Red Ultras Supporters Club

I think that opposition supporters may think that the Ultras are a hooligan element. I totally agree with the idea but I think the name may be mis-interpreted by the opposition. Here is a quote from a report of an incident which happened in Italy a couple of years ago
Quote:

A day of tragedy for Salernitana and Italian Football. The team lost to Piacenza, thus resulting in relegation to Serie B. Over 1500 Ultras from Salernitana made the journey to Piacenza by train. The return journey was to be a nightmare, incidents kept breaking out aboard the train and the police were already trying to stop the train and transfer the Ultras to awaiting buses they had laid on but this police tactic failed. On arrival at Salerno station the Ultras set fire to a carriage of their train, but tragically part of the train was still in a tunnel thus resulting in the deaths of 4 fans and a number of others being badly hurt.
