Rommy Boco

Observer says Paul Cook is looking to sign somebody to "excite the fans" with rumours flying round it could be Rommy!

He knows the club, Knows the manager, Knows the fans, Definitely suits Cookys style of play...Ticks all the boxes for me!!

Re: Rommy Boco

Funny one for me I enjoyed watching Rommy at Stanley earlier in his career but I am not so sure this time around plenty of experience but we have a wealth of midfielders already maybe be better to keep the powder keg dry and see how things pan out?

Re: Rommy Boco

How much I really want him back he didn't really set world alight at Burton recently in league 2! Could do a job but we've got hungry keen young players now!

Would mind Danny Ventre though.....

Re: Rommy Boco

With talk of Stockdale, Dixon etc going out on loan it would free up some space...Also i think on tuesday i thought we just needed somebody to slow the pace down and keep the ball when Port Vale was pressing!

Re: Rommy Boco

I think Boco will have far more to his game than he had when he was last here, and he can play off the front man - or right back for his country!

And one of the things that we haven't got at the moment is the larger than life character for the media. Boco ticks boxes for me far more than Danny Ventre who wasn't good enough for us in the Conference.

Re: Rommy Boco

excite the fans.... I dont think Boco would exactly the 'Marquee' signing to be fair.

He was great at us, but didnt hack it at a very poor Burton side.

Redraine 23-08-2012 21:54

Re: Rommy Boco

It's OK by me as long as it's the same Rommy who burst through and smashed a cracker past Kasper Shmeichel away at Bury a few years ago, but I somehow think he won't be able to reproduce that sort of form.

carpon 24-08-2012 01:33

Re: Rommy Boco

Not for me either.....In what's rapidly becoming the biggest squad in recent memory...If we have money to spend on wages...I think we'd be better off investing in a quality striker (of a similar mould to the great Paul Mullin), maybe another defender (who can play either centrally or fill either full back role ) and a keeper to keep Bavs on his toes.

Fill those three positions, preferably with a bit of experience... and we'll continue to be a force this season.

Boco was a decent player first time around and....as has been already been said earlier on this thread...he didn't rip up any trees at Burton. With a dearth of midfielders already on the books....it a no go from me !!!:o

Also agree with most comments.

Only position we are short really is between the sticks!!!

Everywhere else we are sorted, which I still cant believe :D

Rommy is the most overrated player ive seen at the crown ground!(apart from proctor)

Russell Proctor was class!

Re: Rommy Boco

Went to watch Sligo a couple of times in the Summer and have to say that Rommy and Danny Ventre played really well together...but we don't need to sign both of them and I don't think either would do a better job for us than the lads we have got. Now, if he wants to sign someone to excite the fans, and he wants to go to Sligo, then it has to be Pascal Millen if only for his goalscoring celebrations. The double somersault after his thirty yard byeline goal was amazing, and his presence on the ball was wonderful. Having said that, Danny North upfront was mighty fine and the goalkeeper was immense...can't remember his name though.

Re: Rommy Boco

isn't Danny North injured? Hope you enjoyed Sligo we have often considered it for obvious reasons, what was it like?

Mighty fine club, friendly fans...Irish version of the Stanley really. Will go back many times.

Say,s on Sligo,s site for this season he,s a defender/defensive midfielder maybe looking to play him at right back which for me his one position we look a bit suspect.

he plays right back for his country

Re: Rommy Boco

I for one would love to see Rommy back at the Crown, for the doubters - how many of us have seen him play that much since he left? I'd bet not enough to doubt his ability to fit into our team, ok he didn't break any pots at Burton Albion but maybe his heart wasn't in it when he went there & if people doubt anything else about Rommy, don't think anyone can doubt how much he loved playing for Stanley plus as Smudgie has said on another thread, why judge him before he's even had the chance to pull on a Stanley shirt again?
I'd have much more doubt over the Andy Bishop rumour tbh with his past injury record & his reported massive wage demands but would trust Cooky & co to make the right decisions with regard to any player we might sign

Re: Rommy Boco

It's interesting to read posts from people who have been saying Boco couldn't hack it in the Burton side a few years back or even that he may not be able to reproduce the form he used to show, it strikes me as a typical 'armchair' fan comment.

These kind of comments I am sure are just users trying to throw their 2 cents in however if you look at the season that Boco has had at Sligo and some of the goals he has scores playing down the left wing or even behind the front man I think they would change their mind.
I think it would be great if we got him back at Stanley, he was definitely in my top two favourite players when he was here, he knows the club but also Paul Cook knows how to get the best out of him. He'll be a lot more mature and play smarter football than he did when we had him from 05-08
We didn't look great against Exeter and I think Boco would have an immediate impact. He is coming off the back of arguably the best season of his career (the Irish leagues season starts and ends at different times to England) and would hit the ground running as the other players are still adapting from the summer break.

Since he returned from China, he added a new dimension to his game, he is fitter and quicker than he has ever been.

He also brings some international experience to the side having played against a lot of the top African teams in the African Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers.

I think what AccyMad says is true about people judging him before they have seen him play.

--------

Heres highlights of him playing on the left wing recently
Sport Mediaplayer - RT Sport (12.16 onwards)

---------

He was quality in this game when he scored a screamer! lets hope he does it for us next season if the rumours are true!
Sligo keep up title push with win over UCD - RT Sport (The highlights for this game are going online tonight the website says so i'll post them up later)

Confused me, if you are a Stanley fan and look at Rommy's games on video doesn't that make you an 'armchair fan ' ? :D

:D Stanley Fan and not an armchair fan but i guess you could say also a bit of a Sligo 'desk chair' fan in that case haha

For what it's worth I don't think Cooky is the type who brings players in on sentiment, therefore he must think RB has something to offer :)

Come on just because someone doesn't know the match day habits of a few AccyWeb users they must be an armchair fan?

Fair enough they started the comments in that nature but still it's not right to right them off completely.

My 2p's worth - Rommy as he was the last time he was here isn't good enough. If he's improved, brilliant. We'll have to wait to see him play.

After the Cheltenham game, would love to see the thoughts of the doubters now. True only one game, but let us believe and back PC and Leam's judgement.

Pendle Red 02-09-2012 06:13

Re: Rommy Boco

Gladly admit I was wrong and full credit to PC having said Rommy was a potential target months ago and going out and signing him early days but looks once again like we have a player who slots straight into the the PC Stanley attacking mould.:)

Squad wise it's a big squad but at the same time it has depth in that we have more strength to change things for injuries, suspensions or just changing the pattern of play than I can remember and also to PC's great credit he is not afraid to change things as needed or required.

Happy day's indeed and great credit to the management for identifying the players required and installing belief and a style of play that makes a mockery of the age of the squad, the Board for backing PC and the players for their belief in the management, his footballing ethos and their pride in wearing the badge.

Please continue to defy the odds and myself cause I can't stop grinning from ear to ear.:)

Just had a look back through this thread and wondered what the posters think now? I was sceptical at the time but think Boco has paid us back in spades. Whatever the snake has done since, this was a shrewd signing in my book. Thoughts.....?

Re: Rommy Boco

I was sceptical also, but fair play to Boco, hes certainly doing the business.:)
