On way back from game now. Lads really dug in for a point. Cracking finish from Murphy in front of us 56 reds. Brilliant.

Seemed to get in the right areas and he contributed to us getting the upper hand once all three subs were on. Should be a starter for Tuesday for me. Sheppard looked lively. On way back to Devon now from Paddington full of London ale. Happy days.

Re: Daggers Thread...

Scrappy game with very little quality. We once again set up 4-2-3-1 and they went 4-3-3,and we once again were forced to go long.
They also went long, but we're aided by a big centre forward/point man.
Think we had a few lads not fully fit and it showed.
Positives, bav, murph and our never say die spirit.
Although not a recognised midfielder, molyneux showed the only real quality from both sides,
Would have taken a point, but I would give a big wrap for cooky, with once again positive substitutions

Re: Daggers Thread...

The lads did well to salvage a point. First half was even, but the opening bit of the second half was all Daggers, and their goal on the hour had been coming.

Cooky quickly changed things - Linfield on for Deano to provide some thrust down the right; Schofield on for Miller in the engine room; Sheppard on for Hatfield up front. Initially it gave us a lift, but no equaliser. Dagenham then came back at us and did a good spoiling job for 10-15 mins when we struggled to make headway. But in the last 10 minutes the lads turned it round. The biggest impact, for me, came from Sheppard, who made a real nuisance of himself, popping up all over the place to receive the ball from midfield, giving Joyce some options, linking up well with Schofield and Rommy, and creating space for others.

When it arrived, the Stanley goal was notable for a beauty of a cross from the left which found Murphy at the back post and he could hardly miss, although what he was doing there in the first place is anyone's guess. There was only one team in it after that, testament to the lads, who looked fit and hungry even in the latter stages of the game.

Positives: a decent point against a side who looked anything but relegation candidates for most of the game; another solid display from Bavs; another feather in the tactical cap for Cooky and Leam, who found a solution as time was running out.

A final word for poor Deano. I was saying to Camden Steve that if Cooky had found a specialist right-back pre-season, I reckon that Deano would have got the centre-half gig with Toto. As it is, he's now behind Murphs, and was taken off today as Cooky re-adjusted. He seems to have been a bit unlucky the way the cards have fallen. I hope that this doesn't affect his thinking about the future, as for me he's a stalwart now despite his youth and it would be a big blow to lose him.

always good to hear from you Phil,

It's easy to forget that Deano has only just turned 23, he seems to have been around forever!

Re: Daggers Thread...

Some good points phil, regarding dean, you will find he wasn't travelling on Thursday, but was asked to go and play despite not being fit.It was the right decision to sub him as he was struggling, but it was 0-0 when he went off,and his man got across Linney for the goal a minute later.
Linney did well once he settled.
I am sure miller and toto weren't match fit,but I think the turning point was us going 4-4-2 and the extra man up front ( shepherd),did well and opened the game up.
I personally wouldn't have played dean, but did the job asked of him ie no goals.
Forgot to mention Joyce, who never stopped showing for the ball despite being out numbered in the middle, captains performance

Re: Daggers Thread...

I have to say that I can't be anything other than impressed with Cooky since he got the job. He shows an abundance more passion and animation on the touchline than Coley ever did !!! When the guy speaks in public....he's a million miles in front of Coley in terms of positively speaking. Has anybody heard him berating bad officials or bad luck????

I was a bit gloomy and fearful of the future when Coleman went to 'Dale. Recent displays and (for me at least) the fighting spirit in the side, give me a very warm and positive feeling in the gut.

Early doors as it may be, but the Cooky "mantra" and his influence might just see us stay up with the scramble to get out of League 2 !!!:D

Re: Daggers Thread...

Fully agree with you Carpon about Cooky's after match video interviews. Very positive attitude, freely admits when we fall a bit short but blames no one else except himself really. Coley's body language in his last 12 months was quite negative at times and he clearly felt that he had achieved all that he could at Stanley. Good luck again though to Coley and Jimmy in their new challenge. I think Cooky has put together a great squad so far with perhaps only a bigger lad up front needed that would complete a set up that would have a great season.

Not so sure about that now, Bob. Marcus Carver is banging the goals in for fun at Marine and scored again for them yesterday. Their fans are dead worried about us recalling him, saying he has pace, power and shows great strength in holding off defenders in scoring positions. I remember being impressed by him at the end of last season against Shrewsbury, I think it was, when he seemed to relish the physical battle with their seasoned defenders. I'm not sure that I agree with some of the wise heads on here who say he's not ready for L2 yet. Seems like a natural goalscorer, and if they are good enough, they're old enough for me. Those Rovers fans who were questioning Jordan Rhodes's transfer on the grounds that blasting the goals in for a L1 side means nothing at a higher level have suddenly changed their tune. Similarly, the young teenager Sterling looks like a thoroughbred in among all the multi millionaires in the Premier league.
Let's have him back sooner than later!

there is a nice piece on the website regarding him and Hopper, though its not looking great for Hopper that he's not playing at the moment.

Interesting that the artice is written by Craig Lindfield as well, being groomed for an alternative future career?
