Aldred is one of them, mate of Tom Bender. Was on loan to Barrow at start of season and they wanted him to go back but found out he was training at Stanley so they have to wait and see what he does.

Strange we let Toto go and get Tom Aldred on trial (centre back).

Why strange? if reason given is correct.

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.

Thought the trialist centre half was poor yesterday, and the other youngsters/trialists looked nowhere near good enough to improve our squad.

I too think it was a strange decision to release Toto, and it wouldn't surprise me if the 'personal reasons' was a smokescreen to avoid criticism.

If a player doesn't want to play no point keeping him on the books

Signed on loan for Rochdale until April 27th. Just what we could have done with. There have been nearly 40 players signed by all our L2 rivals during this window. Sigh.

Redraine, last ten games we have scored four goals and a defender is just what we needed???,sooner have a goal scoring forward or midfielder !!!

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.

club need to invest in some good loan players for until the end of the season or invest in signing a decent midfielder + striker! if not we will keep struggling and theyll have to invest more in life of the non league once again! depends if they really want to carry on as a football league club!

What happened from the money from all the transfers that have ever come from the players at stanley? I.e bobby grant etc? i know alot goes to running it but there must of been a big whack of it going somewhere!

Personally,I would have tried to get Ian Sharp when Rotherham let him go out on loan, but he went to Burton, who are in the automatic promotion spot.No coincidence ,great player and leader.
He comes from Warrington,so it would just be down to wages

My Auntie's friends neighbour's cleaners cousin twice removed has a son who's uncle has a cousin who's brother-in-law married a girl who's auntie's uncle knows somebody at the club. So therefore my rumours will be fact :p

Rachubka & Hunt signed until end of season and now we have former target, Mark Hughes, in the centre of our defence. Looks good to me :)

We still need to be able to score goals though :p

Exactly. Good news, although Bury have a 24 hour recall option on Hughes.

I started this thread with hope but a little concern now with the signins especialy Hughes excellant crying out for this type of player 6ft 4ins and a good player also according to Leam maybe 1 more before the window shuts tonight + the loan reopens soon till the end of March. ps thanks to Cameron for stepping in when we were short.

Wow, so Leam has now signed a whole new back four! We used to moan about signing too many midfielders but I can't remember anyone complaining about signing too many strikers. At least not since the Mully years.

Is it just a coincidence that the Snake was a midfielder and brought in loads of midfielders, Leam was/is a defender and has brought in .... ???

Redraine 31-01-2013 20:03

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.

Maybe Leam thinks we are OK for goalscorers with Beattie, Podge, Grey, Carver, Rommy, Hatfield, etc? Hasn't worked so far though!

lancsdave 31-01-2013 20:07

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.

17 games left, hundreds of defenders signed on so thats at least 17 points. Couple of goals thrown in for good measure to get 2 wins and it's all sorted :)

Interesting update on the Hughes signing on BBC website :)

Quote:

Accrington have had a busy old day as they land former Everton centre-half Mark Hughes on loan from Bury.

I once went to a fancy dress party in Liverpool where Hughes won a prize for best costume. He was dressed as a shark eating a person. Hard to describe but an absolute joy to behold. Strange, but true...

I am only quoting from the amount of times I have heard "Pod, nowt ever sticks, call him a striker???" and "Amond, rubbish, get him off", maybe I have misread the situation :D

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.

Way i see it, yeh need a solid defence, that don't leave the team chasing a deficit, sort that yer half way yon, that should give more confidence further up the field, we aint gonna get a drogba, so the forwards need good service.:)

Michael Symes to Burton would we have fancied him/been able to afford him?

I woulda loved him back nige, doubt very much if it was possible. seems very odd to me though, no-ones kept him since he left us???

Tom Bender been released, could be a late one, Stanley are short of defenders :D

Not really. In my post I was merely putting myself in Leam's shoes! Cashy makes a good point though about a solid, experienced defence being a good springboard for attacking play, so let's wait and see what happens this weekend against 24 goal Tom Pope and co. Hope to see you there?

carpon 31-01-2013 22:37

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.

Quietly chuffed with today's business, One area that really concerned me was centre half. With Hughes signing, i'm quietly confident he'll give us a lot more steel at the heart of defence.:)

I've seen him play a couple of times when i've ventured over to Gigg Lane a few times. He's a big lad, good in the air and solid in the tackle. Some folk on Bury's message board say he lacks pace, though from what I've seen of him, his attacking presence at set plays in the opposition box will give us a dimension which I think we've lacked for a while now.:o

As for the other lads signing today as others have said, we should have the defence tightened up for the run in.:)

If Tom Bender has been released, then the window closing won't make any difference to whoever signs him, being that he would be a free agent. Maybe worth a shout offering him a deal until the end of the season???

Just one final thought....I wonder if a certain ex-manager (recently relieved of his duties) had any input with the decision to sign Hughes ???

Wow..I recall Mark Hughes being discussed on here a couple of seasons back. I subsequently watched him playing for a hopeless Nth Queensland Fury vs Wellington Phoenix in the A League and thought he was outstanding..
I bet you he scores a goal in the league.

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.

Not really convinced about our signings, although both are good players.
In reality, our last ten games we have conceeded 16,whist scoring 4.
If you look at the same period when we made the play offs,in the same ten games we conceeded 15,but scored 14.
Therefore we have only conceeded one more, but scored ten less, and that IMHO is were the problem arises.

cashman 01-02-2013 15:42

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.

Hardly a shock to me football19, when chasing too many games, not really rocket science. poor defending must knock confidence?

football19 01-02-2013 16:46

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.

What I am getting at Cashy is I would have liked a forward in,someone who let Beattie roam a little.Clean sheets are hard to come by in this league,so scoring is a must to get anything, and we just ain't doing it at present.
It seems other teams have four attempts and score one,we have ten attempts and don't score any !!!

cashman 01-02-2013 17:26

Re: Deadline day tomorrow.

Think all of us would have liked a striker in? but getting one that improves ours is virtually a no-no to me,given our resources. outa the league Dixon was brought in, has potential, but not ready fer league to me.
