Gillingham match thread
We've got them feeling nervous!
"On Saturday we play a team which is fighting for its very survival - their players will suffer a substantial drop in income should they be relegated and, seriously, I would take 1 point now from the game. It's not easy to play against a team at the bottom of the league. Accy will, no doubt , play with 9 men behind the ball and try to nick something on the break. I expect a very tough game." Read more: GillsConnect.com Message Board - Facts How should we play this one against the top of the league? They must be a bit off form at the moment, although they are surely bound for L1. I would favour going after them from the kick off again. It's no time for half measures! Mind you, I was always a risk taker. |
Re: Gillingham match thread
Nervous or not the Gills, Stanley must go at em from the off, We need a result more than they do, Its that simple,is my view.

Re: Gillingham match thread
Agree with you Cashy, we can't afford to sit back and defend. If we go behind it will give them a boost and be difficult for us to come back BUT if we can press them back and grab a goal it may deflate them????? Well we can dream right. I think the Reds are full of confidence right now and looking forward to a challenge.

Re: Gillingham match thread
Let them think we will play with 9 men behind the ball.;)

Re: Gillingham match thread
Taking a cold look at this match, it is obviously not a game we would expect to come away with any points,
nothing expected jubilation at anything else, on the plus side the Gills may find their defence disrupted with their tall defender Andy Frampton missing, by virtue of a red carded awarded at Rochdale on Tuesday night, what’s the score on Nicky Hunt |

Re: Gillingham match thread
we aint got the confidence, ability or nouse to play 'different' tactics week in week out so I dont subscribe to any kind of defending what you've got (a point) at the start. Hit 'em hard, hit 'em frequent and keep at 'em
Accy Ob reckons they've four or five out as a result of knocks picked up at Rochdale. On a side note, Gills Player (the online listening contraption thing) sent me an email a couple of weeks back offering a free month trial, so I'll be seeing if that is still current so that I can listen in for free. I'll post a link if it is and you can all register then. I believe that membership of one is applicable to all clubs so it could be used to listen to the next months worth of away games for all the non-travellers |
Re: Gillingham match thread
Attack is THE best form of defence!! Nuff said.

Re: Gillingham match thread
Hi all thought I'd register for a bit of friendly banter and offer any help for any of your travelling fans. Its an interesting game and with our home form being a lot worse than our away form so anything could happen. Lots of team have come to Gillingham and taken 1-0 wins this season and it wouldn't be a shock if you did as well. For those who have been to gillingham before then you know that you are normally in the open temporary stand behind the goal. Although I have hunch this year you may not be. The end block of the small stand that runs down the side is unavailable on the online system so I think you might be going in there and the open stand made available to Gills fans. We'll see.
Safe travels for those who are coming down and if you need any help or advice (where to park, drink, etc.) give me a shout. Should be a good crowd this week as we have kids for a £1 and with just over 10,000 for the last home game we are hoping for something close to that again. |
Re: Gillingham match thread
:) I think this is a winable game, two win on the bounce scoring goal for the fun of it a new found believe with in the team!! and a Gill's team feeling a bit of a nervy run in , 1 win out of the last five outings. We need to go for it from the off :)

Re: Gillingham match thread
The team that turned up on Tuesday could beat anyone in this league and impressively so. More of the same please.

No doubt cashy, though the players who came off the bench on Tuesday all played just as well which is encouraging.

Re: Gillingham match thread
Just wondering whether the weather will come into play, were we have been hit by snow the south has been hit by torrential rain, might be worth keeping an eye on the weather before anybody decides to travel
|
Re: Gillingham match thread
According to the weather folks, it is the south west that will be hit worst, but of course, wi' all the snow up here, who's saying the fans can get there in the first place. Good luck to all those that venture south and hopefully come back with 3 more points in the bag.

Re: Gillingham match thread
Thanks to the Gills fan for the heads up. Have just rung the club and the away fans will be put in the very end section of one of the covered stands along the side of the pitch, but will have to enter the ground in the usual place (i.e. at the end of Priestfield Road).
This may be in response to weather forecast. At the moment it's cold but dry but rain is forecast for later today, continuing all night, becoming heavy in the morning and turning to heavy snow by Saturday lunchtime.... Kent is the one place I lived in the UK where, when bad weathetr comes, it can be bad. Recall Maidstone being completely cut off by snow one weekend... :( |
Re: Gillingham match thread
Good that we have put you in the covered standard as it will be a cold up there on the open stand. We have done it before when the numbers of travelling away fans is not expected to be high (no disrespect intended by that comment).
It could also be that they want to use the normal away stand to house Gillingham supporters. Its rare that it is opened up to Gillingham fans but it was for the last home game. Ticket sales look good so we will see if any poor souls are in the open stand. Weather at the moment in Kent is OK, cold but no rain or snow. That's is forecast overnight but mainly as sleet. The pitch will be covered so as long as its not torrential then I think we should be OK Safe travels. |

However, rain is predicted overnight that may or may not turn to snow tomorrow morning. The forecasters saying that the snow may just miss this part of the South-East. |
Re: Gillingham match thread
Just a quick update on the the weather. We have no snow lying on the ground but it has just started snowling lightly. At the moment I would say game on but I think we just need to see how it develops. Forecast still has light snow/sleet. If I were a betting man I would say game on but with a fair risk of a late postponement.
Summer football anyone ? |
Re: Gillingham match thread
Would not surprise me to see game postponed 'DUE TO SAFETY REASONS'. Hope not, the team have got a chance to shine and get themselves further away from the relegation spots. Here's hoping we don't have to go on a Tuesday night!

Re: Gillingham match thread
Game is ON. No pitch inspection needed. Snow has turned to rain, surrounding roads are clear.

Re: Gillingham match thread

Re: Gillingham match thread
Ruddy typical, went fer em in second half n were best side according to BBC stats,:(
|
Re: Gillingham match thread
Did not expect anything from this game, but good thing is that we appeared to carry on recent form - got to be a good sign for games to come ;) :) :)
|
Re: Gillingham match thread
Played em off the park in the second half and they were celebrating like they'd won the league at full time. We were lucky not to concede two in the first half before the goal, but their goal was worthy of winning any game. Will play a lot worse this season and get something from it. Long trip home to Devon now, but confident we will stay up after performances and effort like that. Our heads never dropped. Looked like nicking a point right up to the final whistle.
Onwards and upwards - one happy, confident and proud Stanley fan tonight. Keep the faith. |
Re: Gillingham match thread
Free hot drinks and food courtesy of the Gillingham chairman for the intrepid 28 Stanley fans. Nice touch and much appreciated.

Gills fans saying they were lucky we were poor in the final third. Sounds like we left our shooting boots at home. Hope Jeffers is OK?

Re: Gillingham match thread
Firslty well done to the 28 - especially any who travelled from the NW. Good to see that Scally recognised that with the free food and drink - nice gesture.
So, onto the game. I like the way you pass the ball around, its nice to see football. To be honest I felt that you missed a real cutting edge up front (as do we so not an uncommon issue). One nil is always nervous but although you had a lot of the play second half you never really hurt us. It was a great strike to win the game and yes we did celebrate like we had won the league at the end. Every win is priceless for us now as we look to secure promotion and then move onto the title. All the best to Stanley for the rest of the season I hope you stay up. |
Re: Gillingham match thread
Cheers mate.;)

Re: Gillingham match thread
Apparently our Amine ran the show in the second half and Gills fans are getting in the queue behind the Northampton fans to get their managers to sign him up next season. I really hope we can keep him here after we stay up!!
