Re: When should we know who's staying?

That leaves Francis Jeffers, Lee Molyneux, Rommy Boco & Padraig Amond. I'm assuming that we won't pay a transfer fee to bring Nicky Hunt back.

Sounds like Podge is keen to stay with us and Molyneux is certain to leave. Jeffers and Rommy? I'd be happy if we managed to get even one of those for next season.

With such a small playing budget, these two will need to really want to play for us next season (i.e. not for the money). I'm sure Beatts will want to keep a significant portion of his budget open for some of the long-term loanees that he seems convinced he will be able to attract to Stanley. Let's hope so as it's a very young team at the moment.

Another un signed 2 yrs can only be a good thing in my eyes, anyone improves significantly, Stanley command a fee.:)

Re: When should we know who's staying?

Whalley Red's noting of 'a very young team at the moment' has stimulated JB into checking on the availability of another young rising star....'the best header of a ball since George Stewart'. one Stanley fan was heard to remark !.......A years supply of Farley's Rusks and Ostermilk could clinch the deal... so get him in James !.

Nicky hunt has been released by Rotherham

Millers agree Hunt release

Whalley Red 19-06-2013 15:27

Re: When should we know who's staying?

Rob Heys has just tweeted that there is "more good news to come before the end of the week".

Hopefully it is Hunt ... he has stated his desire to stay close to his home (he has a young child) and Rotherham clearly couldn't find anyone to pay them a fee for Hunt.

More probably it is Podge who, if so, may as well not bother unpacking as Beattie's taking those players signed-up to Portugal for some warm weather training at the end of this week!

Re: When should we know who's staying?

So I reckon we need a right-back, a centre midfielder to play with Joycey, an attacking midfielder/winger and two centre forwards.

These could be Hunt, Procter, Boco, Jeffers and Podge.

I actually really hope we get Jeffers. I think if he was to stay fit and injury free then we're going to get goals from him.

cryptic from our point of view, WAS playing at Accy last season - does that denote past tense wont be there this time? or is that too analytical?
nothing sorted for this season yet? come on Moly get signed up, can still get 20-1 on promotion ....

Still dreadfully lightweight up top and in the centre of the park we need some experienced heads don't score goals don't win matches.

Re: When should we know who's staying?

If BT can add a bit of nouse and guile to the game of the strikers that we have then I think we'll do well. Gray, Carver and McCarten are three young and hungry strikers with dece
nt potential. Bring it on.

smudgie 27-06-2013 17:16

Re: When should we know who's staying?

Well after previous years squad total I reckon we are well ahead at this stage.

2 x strikers (maybe 1 if we get mccarten) , A keeper and 2 x midfielder's and we arent far off. And that's not including loanees.

cashman 27-06-2013 17:50

Re: When should we know who's staying?

We are ahead on previous years no doubt, Suggest the main reason is who is now running the club n who is actually in charge of playing.

Jeg Red 27-06-2013 22:10

Re: When should we know who's staying?

The lads who have signed up have the makings of a decent League 2 squad, however they need complimenting with 4 or 5 quality first team starters, as most of our better players from last season have either signed up elsewhere or have other irons in the fire than Stanley. Most lads who have signed up already wouldn't have got too many offers from other league clubs.

We are better off in numbers terms than at this stage in pretty much every other close season, but hope club are working in background on some real quality signings. The Billy Sharp thing has gone quite and I think Beats owes an explanation as to what was behind the photo

cashman 27-06-2013 22:14

Pendle Red 28-06-2013 05:15

Re: When should we know who's staying?

I agree the three lads up top have potential but it is quite easy in this League to get out muscled by vastly experienced defenders, what we have lost with those who have not signed or moved on is not just experience but flair as well the final pass, the final shot and the end product.

We do have a backbone to the squad of players who fit in positions and have experience & more importantly know each other and what it takes in the Stanley shirt, I remain hopeful that with James's contacts we can add three or four more faces that will bring more depth and even more experience to bring us up to a squad that won't struggle this season but push on to the next level.

That's what's puzzling me Cashy - Club said offers had been made to ALL players except those that had been released.

Can only mean he has rejected the clubs offer.

Would be a shame if he doesn't get sorted, cos Carver and McCarten would learn plenty from him and the gaffer.

"we'll give you £500 per week"
"make it £800 per week Gaffer and I'll sign"

technically a rejection but ball in Stanley's court?

I'm hoping that when the initial budget was decided it would have included reasonable offers to Linganzi and Molyneux, so maybe without those now signing we would be in a position to return to Boco and Jeffers with improved terms? Certainly Boco would have been holding out for an offer from elsewhere but time is ticking on and they obviously haven't been offered what they would like or they would have signed somewhere, so maybe an improved offer would now illicit a better response?

If the club were to offer Jeffers "better" terms it should include a condition on number of appearances... he's a gamble with injuries and the likelihood of getting himself sent off.

Agree wi appearance money, But sent off only 3 times in his career, last time was 3/4 yrs ago, so don't see how thats justified?

Morecambe fans forum treating the Pod move as though it's a state secret. Almost blushing. What's the big deal?

Possibly embarrassment? seeing how many of their acquisitions turn out to be similar?:D

Is the Podge move about money, or playing time? Anybody know?

I am surprised at that - the few games he's played for us IMO opinion he's got so wound up a few times he looked like he was going to swing for someone.

Th'Observer states that Jeffers has now left the club and BT is resigned to losing Rommy. On the plus side we have earmarked a big name signing to play alongside Shay. "he is expected to be a well known Football League striker"

and we have the man himself.

Amond and Redshaw? who are they?

I've forgotten who Amond was but 'Blues Beaten' Redshaw is the best thing to come out of Yorkshire since the M62. Check out his one-string, cigar-box guitar.:)

Great stuff. Reminds me of Ralph's Rhythm and Blues nights at Accy Jazz club behind the main stand at Peel Park in the early 60's. Always limited ourselves to 6 pints before driving home. Happy days. If a cat has 7 lives I reckon I've had about 77 up to now!

From Dan Jewell's interview with JB today via Twitter.

James beattie has ruled out returns to the club for members of last seasons squad yet to agree new contracts.

"There was a timeframe put on the offers, the deadline was set and I'm not going to be anybody's second choice"

Looking to have a squad of around 20 players and is looking at a couple of experienced players and the loan market.

Fair enough comments from Beatts, unhappy that Rommy isn't staying & just hope that Chesterfield's fans are wrong & he goes anywhere but there - (could never tell Rommy to 'sod off' Cashy :) )

Paddy playing for the Shrimps against Burnley tonight doesn't bother me but I am a bit jealous of them signing Mark Hughes today !

Padraig made a good start to his Morecambe career in our 1 - 0 win over the Clarets.

He came on in the 2nd half and made a great run and cross from which Kevin Ellison scored the winner.

I'm very pleased for you. So he has actually signed then has he? Or is it still too sensitive to be discussed on your forum?
