James Beattie is name as new Stanley boss!!

Quote:

ACCRINGTON Stanley have named James Beattie as their new manager.

The 35-year-old was brought to the club by former boss Leam Richardson in mid-November to boost the club’s ultimately successful fight for survival.

Having worked under Richardson in a player-coach role last season, the former Blackburn Rovers, Southampton, Everton and Stoke striker will take the reins.

Richardson left his first managerial role last month to become Paul Cook’s assistant at Chesterfield.

Beattie, who made 27 league and cup appearances for the Reds last season, scoring seven meaningful goals, is set to be unveiled to the media at a press conference at the Store First Stadium in the morning.

It is not yet clear whether the former England international will continue in a playing capacity.

Be interesting to see how this works out!

Heard that he spoke very well at the awards evening. And talking to some saints fans down here in Southampton [where i live] they tell me he's a winner and demands more from his team mates all the time!

Hopefully he can get some of the players to sign up for us.

I reckon there'll be some of the bigger stanley names who will think twice about going away - unless the offer is too good i think they'll stay

I don't know enough about this lad to make any judgements on his abilities has a manager; I guess we are out of money again and the club is striving to reinvent itself all over again come the 2013/14 season.

It will be interesting to see who signs and stays at the club and who opts out for the stronger teams, it will also be interesting to see where we go for our new blood now that JB is in control; will we see an influx of retirees from the upper echelons of English Football or will we struggle to entice middle of the road non league players to the Crown.

This will be a season of questions, hopes and fears and for a great part one of tears; It sure as hell won't be boring.

Yes Cashy; over five years of working seven day weeks, using every penny of my own money and a one way ticket to wasting health just to keep my head above water and hoping survive long to pay off my debts with dignity, very Stanley. :)

I don't want to sound negative Cashy; I just don't expect much more having gone through the last few seasons like we have. The positives are that we are here in league two for the new season, :D but with an inexperienced manager and little money. I just hoped that we would at least reinvest in a strong start. What, who and how I don't know.

Very interesting choice, made a highly proclaimed speech at the awards, locked the team in the dressing room for a hour and issued a load of bollockings after a defeat.Has the respect of the full squad.Where's all the squad.....still here not Chesterfield with the snake....is this what the squad have been waiting to hear.....Lets hope so!!!! GOOD LUCK JB FROM ALL TRUE ACCY FANS!!!!!!! SORRY JC AND JB good luck in the future.

Good Luck to James as the New Manager of Accrington Stanley

In my book a very good appointment, okay making the step up to Management is never easy but as a player who has played at the very top level he will have learnt a great deal, I am sure he will have good contacts in the game.

He had Already seen what the Club is about signing as a player so knows the lads, knows the people behind the scenes and knows how the Club has to operate.

Also as a good part of the Managers job is you have to become a figurehead for the Club with the Press & Fans from what I have seen, heard and spoken to him about we have that.

I am sure we have a lot to look forward to for the coming season and exciting times ahead.

Feeling very optimistic, he's been around the game a long time, i,m sure he has picked up lots of info about players, coaches, managers and tactics. Sounds like he has a good attitude and I,m sure he wants to succeed, best of luck Mr. Beattie, ONWARDS AND UPWARDS.

Used to watch a young Beats play fer Rovers youth, in the days when they used to play at ewood, used to model himself on Shearer wi his mannerisms etc, His commitment was second to none in a strong youth team. n from what ive been told, still has that same commitment since joining stanley. So while its a tough call in football management, i'm certainly very optimistic in this venture.:)

Good luck to JB. I hope that he has much success in his new role.

Sounds like a good appointment, but will he be uprooting his family from the South and moving North?

No doubt Coley and Co will now turn their attentions to the Macc job having been denied the chance to return 'home'.

Have no idea, may have been already considering that fer various reasons. I don't know n doubt if you do? Aint that great fer a northern lad to live down yon, I soon moved back in 60s.

smobile 14-05-2013 08:47

Re: James Beattie is name as new Stanley boss!!

I must admit, that I did want John & Jimmy back, not for nostalgic reasons, but for stability. I had long since accepted the fact, that as far as players were concerned, the club was just a spring board for aspiring talent until a better offer came along. But throughout all this time, the management team remained a constant.

With the recent short tenures of Richardson and Cook, the last thing I felt the club needed was another young buck, thinking he’d proved himself after half a season, then sodding off as soon as a better offer came along. I hope I am not going to have to eat my words, but I have a feeling that Beattie will be different and will be a successful appointment for our club.

Now that the appointment has been made, I can see the other side of the argument and accept that this is a step in the right direction (forwards) and that safe is not always the best or most exciting option.

Congratulation to James Beattie on getting THE best job in football – As manager of our club, you will always have my 100% support.

Well done also to the club for making an early decision and giving James the best chance to hopefully keep most of the current squad together and plenty of time to recruit some quality players in. As others have also said, pleased we have not gone for a journeyman “big name” looking for one final payday.

Re: James Beattie is name as new Stanley boss!!

I've kept quiet for a few days since Beattie's appointment, keeping my powder dry so to speak, whilst allowing time for things to sink in and digest what has been said by both Beattie and the Board.:o

Having read all the comments in the media, watched and listened to interviews, I feel that we're on the cusp of a "new dawn" at Stanley. I'm hoping that it has a bit more substance and longevity than the last two false dawns, i.e. The snake and Leams appointments.

I wasn't present when Beattie gave his speech at the end of season do, however by all accounts, he gave a very solid and commendable speech, lauded by many who were present.

Since his appointment, I like many others, am filled with a renewed sense of optimism and anticipation.

Beattie's initial statements to the press have me salivating over the prospect of the coming season which can't come quick enough!!:D

To quote today's bellylaugh ( L.E.T. ) :

"The targets this year will be to go up as champions. Some people might laugh at that but I think you've got to aim high.

The players that I'll bring in will be able to get us as close to that as possible.

Since the news got announced, I've had probably 10 players ring me up and said " I want to come and play".

That includes people I thought the club might lose this summer. It includes players that wouldn't necessarily play for Accrington Stanley but now potentially will do."

Sweet music to the ears !!:D

I admit, initially I thought Coley & Bell were nailed on for the job, however the longer it took to make the appointment, the less likely I saw any return for the "dynamic duo". We will forever be in debt to Coley & Bell for getting us back to the League.:o

That said, it speaks volumes that Beattie got the nod over a proven managerial duo.:o

As a club, I think this appointment advertises the fact that we've ambition and are plumming for a guy who has vast experience at the top level; and will have a network of friends and contacts who could prove invaluable in our quest to get to the right end (i.e top end )of league 2.:D

Exciting times beckon. Let's hope Beattie can get key men ( Molyneux, Linganzi, Boco, Jeffers, Aldred etc )tied up on new deals. Indeed the keep the majority of that side together along with some quality additions; and I feel we won't be far away next term.:D

And if you want to look at omens.... Bradford, Burton and Northampton all finished in the bottom half in the season before last. Look where they finished last season and who will be playing in the play off final next week !!:o

My feeling is, those lads wi promise,if they carry on developing next season, They will end up at a much better club than if they moved now.:)

Re: James Beattie is name as new Stanley boss!!

that could be a massive plus for Beattie in talking players into stopping on slightly longer than they might have done once over. He has been at the top and will have seen many players come and go that really should have stopped at a lower level for an extra season instead of moving before they were ready.

As a club we will never move onto the next level until we can keep players beyond that initial phase of "he's not bad". Linganzi is a great example. I've no doubt his phone will have been ringing from clubs at the top of league 2 or just promoted. If he chose to go now he could probably double his wages but may not play every week and his skill level may stagnate, and his career go no further. Alternatively he could carry on playing for us and pick up only a decent working wage but would be the star of the show and would get to shine all season and secure a better move than he could now. He needs to play more than a dozen games to really show what he can do. With luck he'll get a really good move with Beattie putting words in peoples ears towards the top end of the Football League and we benefit a fat transfer fee.

All the talk about getting lads to stay for a season, build an impressive portfolio then moving to another club with better prospects seems a little defeatist. Why can't the talk be about doing well at Stanley, taking the club forward, promotion & climbing the leagues with Stanley instead? Just a thought.:)
