Re: Molly joins Crewe
Fair play and good luck to him - never begrudge a player going to a higher level

Re: Molly joins Crewe
Just my opinion, but think Moly would do much better n Crewe (no disrespect to em) if he remained at Stanley a full season n continued improving, He would have much more chance of continuous games here, n could easily impress a far bigger club by improving.:) Doubt very much if that will happen, But most of our young uns that left too early didn't cut the mustard elsewhere.

Re: Molly joins Crewe
can't grumble with Crewe, its about as big a shop window as you could find in this country! Every scout and his dog has a season ticket there

Re: Molly joins Crewe
Medical done and contract all but done according to the man himself on Twitter.

Don't tell me.."He wasn't under contract as such so we didn't get anything for him". How come when our "better" players move to "bigger" clubs we don't get paid?:(

Cant blame the club, he came on trial, did ok so got a one year deal - this time last year Moly, Chippendale, Eckers, Gray all in same boat. Moly (& Gray to a lesser extent) have made the most of the opportunity. |

Most players who come to Stanley want to use it as a shop window. They aren't offered long contracts because we can't afford the risk and the good ones won't want a long contract because they know it'll restrict where they move to after Stanley to someone who is willing to pay a fee. The more a club spends on a transfer fee the less they have to splash on wages... |
Re: Molly joins Crewe
Interesting to read that Moly's move to Crewe was in the balance this morning, because of his insistence that he wanted no longer than a 1-year contract.
12 months from now: no payback to his Club with a transfer fee earned & more money for the player when he moves with a no transfer paid. Crewe Alex: Swoop for Lee Molyneux hangs in the balance - Crewe Chronicle |

Re: Molly joins Crewe
I think he perhaps has delusions of grandeur then if he thinks that he will definitely be on the move next summer. I'd have thought that most lower league footballers would be grateful for a 2 year contract and security?
He was fantastic towards the end of the season - no-one can doubt that, but the 30 games prior to that ... |

I'm sure we'd give him a one-year contract no problem! :D |

Too good for us but for me can't see him past League 1 at his peak |

Remember when he started playing for us, he was still wearing a tag after being released from prison - three years for violent assault - and couldn't play in evening games because he was still on curfew :( No other Club gave him a chance to resurrect his career! |

Re: Molly joins Crewe
Agree with much of what has been said above; I thought Mr Molyneux was of doubtful quality early on but he proved me wrong once it was realised he wasn't a defensive left back.
However, it could be his 'agent' demanding a one year contract so he can extract another fee in 12 months. Given a choice between his client and himself, I wonder whose financial interests would come first with some 'agents'? |
Re: Molly joins Crewe
Molly is a footballer in the lower leagues who is only 1 injury away from ending his career.
He has every right to maximise his options. If Crewe aren't willing to give him a 1 year deal, then they will have to find an equally talented left sided player of Mollys quality on a free transfer. They wont. |
Re: Molly joins Crewe
Moly needs to be careful that he doesn't come out of this looking like he's not keeping his feet on the ground.
A year ago, he'd just come out of prison and Stanley have him a chance, so the 12 month contract suited both parties. I always thought he had the quality, although it took some time for him to show it consistently and the 2 goals at Rochdale were the turning point for him. He's relishing his second chance and has a baby due soon, so given his situation, you'd think he'd jump at the security of a 2 year deal with Crewe. If he shows potential to play at a higher level than League 1, someone will come in for him and pay a fee, so he should have a deal of faith in his own ability if that's what he's after. Don't under estimate the role of the agent here and his motivation for providing the advice he appears to be providing |

Good player, and grateful to him for contributing the goals that kept us our league status, but should have rewarded us with another year for giving him a chance when everyone else had turned their backs on him. That's Modern Football and Modern Players for you though. |

Re: Molly joins Crewe
Some VERY harsh messages been posted in this thread, I thought certain people where bigger than slagging off players who had departed but obviously not.
After meeting Moly towards the end of the season he is such a nice lad and is only leaving for bigger and better things?? If someone more than doubled your wage for a different company would you stay?? Would you hell, you would run out of the door. Yes we gave Moly a chance when he was on the scrap heap, but after trying his balls out all I season and saving us from the drop I would say he repaid his debt, and some! Yes he was off the pace at the start, what do you expect after not kicking a ball in anger for 18 months?!?? He was magnificent in the last 15 games and I personally he hope he has a great career as he is smashing lad. |
Re: Molly joins Crewe
Agree with sentiment he paid any 'debt' to us with the goals that kept us up.
Fool for risking his chance at Crewe mind. |
Re: Molly joins Crewe

Signed for 2 years, apparently ..........:) Good luck, Lee, and thanks for the memories :D (And Proccy signed for Bury, also 2 years ......) |
