What is the thinking behind no advance ticket sales for visiting fans at the Pompey Fixture?

That seems very odd? Says tickets can only be bought at Store First Stadium on day of game. seems mental to me.

maccawozzagod 19-07-2013 08:16

Re: Pompey Game

certainly mental for that game. I would have thought that Pompey were a shoe in for selling out their tickets. At least pre-sales would give us an idea of how many police we need to provide doughnuts for.

They have every right to be annoyed, this is crazy wi no explanation forthcoming. Pompey have always had a great following ,n sky or not am sure they would sell out the away allocation, Fans who travel so far deserve better than this imho.:( If many more travel than the away allocation, the police will have trouble they never imagined, I find it hard to think its anything to do wi them?

Quite right Cashy, unless they are thinking of allowing the Pompy fans the whole of the scatting shed and the Copice end ,that would probably accommodate 2000, the problem then arises if 3000 travel.Stanley are being very short sighted, and probably dangerously so in HMO?

I will be amazed if oer 2000 don't travel Tommy. I know times have changed, but last time they played Stanley in the Cup Thousands came, and after that when we had No team same thing at Rovers, always brought a large following.

Their average away support last season was 436 across all league games, and ratio to their home support is 7.6%.

Given the time of kick off and live on telly I really can't see over 1,500 dragging themselves out of bed at some ungodly hour and travelling to Accrington, even though they have great support for where the club are now.

I wouldn't bet on it Dave, many younger fans like to clock up a " New Ground" n should think Stanley will be that fer majority under 60s;):)

And apart from that a boozy weekend in Blackpool in this weather with a trip to a "new ground" may appeal even more

Re: Pompey Game

Come on people

Lets be realistic

Lets hope Pompey bring 2,000 or 3,000 or even as much as 4,000

by not restricting them to a certain allocation it will hopefully encourage more of them to come and fill the ground providing our club with much needed funds.

Pompey fans are good natured and rarely cause trouble (unless its Southampton)

The club made a mistake restricting the Everton allocation, they would have sold a lot more but lots of fans did not know you could turn up and pay on the gate in the Stanley end.

cashman 19-07-2013 21:58

Re: Pompey Game

You be realistic Davo, if many decide not to travel, cos on the offchance they will NOT gain entry, to one of smallest grounds in league, That would be a ridiculous state of affairs, also would you travel so far, being unsure yeh would gain entry? I know damn well i would not.

And if / or when so many turn up, plod would have no option but to close the gates to prevent a crowd safety issue, do you think those Pompey fans locked out / turned away would go quietly back down the motorway???

Or what about Stanley fans being turned away from their own ground due to it being packed out with visiting fans???

Maybe you want to take into account the people who actually sit in there???

I'll be in the Main Stand, along with several hundred other Stanley fans. Some of those will have season tickets. And the last thing a season ticket holder wants is to turn up with somebody sat in the seat they've reserved.

And I wouldn't want to turn up and find myself sat in amongst a load of away fans in a "home" end!! I'd imagine it's a sentiment shared by other fellow Reds???

Another stewarding / policing nightmare.

The game being on the box will probably net Stanley around £100k for television revenue. That's the equivalent of an extra 5,800 paying adults....

A sensible approach would be to make it all ticket. It might put a few off, but at least it would ensure no nightmare scenarios of lockouts and crowd trouble.:(

Hello Stanly fans, my first post as you're team are now officially my second team and I'll be chearing you on every week. I expect you'll pick up quite a few Saints fans as Beatts family is still living down here and very much still a Saints legend.
anyhow, I'd be wary of the blue few, when ever they play against a team with a high profile ex Saint, they go out of their way to give him what they describe as a "Scumming" which basically means giving him aggressive verbals etc all game. There's an iconic photo that's pretty famous in Southampton of Jimbo with his hand cupped to his hear after scoring against them, they proper hate him, I honestly expect a few hundred extra to turn up just to give the Scumming live on tv, honestly, they're that neadathol!

Not you in particular, Mr T, but the admin staff in general. Firstly, the shop's a waste of time - you can't even get a simple item like a T-shirt. You had a great offer from Dave to help on the merchandising side and it seems he was ignored. Absolutely unbelievable.

Secondly, minor cock-ups keep occurring again and again. The wrong KO time on the poster outside the ground. Just how much gumption does it take to nip outside and stick a bit of paper over it?

Lastly, my Toto shirt that I never got. Fortunately, my mate, Valarian has offered to try and sort it out off his own bat. Thanks, Joe. NO thanks to the club who look at this forum regularly and so, were aware of the problem. Any organisation with a normal attitude to good customer relations would have thought, "best sort this out, we don't want other potential sponsors to be put off" but, oh no, not Stanley.

You may not know it, but Cashy had quite a reputation for not taking any crap when he was a gaffer at Blythes, so I reckon you should let him loose on your staff - he'd soon knock 'em into shape!

I dunno, Mr T, I reckon it's time me and you had another chat over a pint! ;)

Exactly...on the subject of non-arrival of sponsored shirts, as Pendle Red said, we've been here before, so why is the club not learning from its mistakes? Why did the club reject Dave's offer of space in a town centre outlet and on sale or return options? Why does the club just blithely ignore questions like this and any criticism of its mistakes?

This is the last club that this should be happening at! With our fan base, every supporter counts!

Wild guess, but in any case it would be stupid for Stanley to buy hundreds of any t-shirt design to get anywhere near those prices. Buy a few, move on em, put another design in. There's a very low number of fans who will buy everything, a few more who will buy most things and a few more than that who will buy occasionally. You may not make as much profit but at least there's no stock stuck on the shelf tying up cash for the next 10 years.

Maybe when they are in the Premier League bulk buying may be a requirement :D

I know that it is something you do for a living Dave but my guesstimate was based on the cheapo shirts that I bought. We just doubled the approximate price to set our retail price and I'm sure we sold the tee's at a fiver. We bought the cheapest (without going down the China route) of the branded stuff so better quality would obviously be more - do they need to be of the highest quality though?

Price has always been a bugbear of mine for buying merchandise, I pretty much refuse to go anywhere near £20 for a simple t-shirt. I begrudgingly buy a replica shirt pretty much every time but the cost of other stuff puts me out of the 'I'll buy it cos it got Stanley on" market.

By Portsmouths's estimates; not that many!!

All income is welcome, but it's just another Sky Bet League 2 fixture; think we do them every other week!;)

Mark Thanks for the feedback glad to here it has been worthwhile money two weeks earlier than expected that has to be good!

Bearing in mind the original decision it would not have happened so Thank You to those that listened and made it happen.

Hopefully some of the money can be used to help stock the Shop before the Big Game. (Win Win)

I'm thinking the same - I'm sure all my neighbours in Pompey have got their tickets for the Coppice end now , but I'm going to be on the road for a week before the game so was hoping to get mine for the Clayton end by post within the next 5 days - don't really want to turn up on spec on the day, and can't understand why they're not available online by now .
